Sixteen miles long and one of the cleanest lakes in the world, Skaneateles Lake is the eastern gateway to the Finger Lakes. abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of State, William Seward from auburn, is reported to have claimed it as “the most beautiful body of water in the world.” the Village of Skaneateles on the northern tip of the lake is a much-loved summer destination filled with boutique shops, excellent restaurants and a lakeside park with a picture-perfect gazebo and long pier stretching over the crystal-clear water. Baskets of summer flowers, lovely trees and inviting park benches lead the way through Main Street’s Historic Business District past many buildings listed now on the national register of Historic Places. Get an ice cream on a hot summer day and enjoy a pleasant stroll.

Spread a blanket and relax as the Skaneateles community Band performs at the gazebo every Friday evening in July and august.

Barrow (1824-1906), a second-generation Hudson River School-style artist. The Skaneateles area was his muse and main subject. The gift shop sells painting miniatures, posters, stationery and other items. The primary entrance to the art gallery is through the Skaneateles Library; however, the gallery is a separate non-profit facility. Call or check the website for hours and COVID precautions.
