SELLER INSIGHT
from Reading, Berkshire
Oakley Barn has been a much-loved family home where we happily lived for 15 years. We can easily recall the welcoming feel of the house when we first stepped foot inside and we knew that the light and airy hallway with galleried landing would be the perfect spot for a huge Christmas tree handpicked from the local woods at Christmas Common. The good-sized bedrooms and living accommodation to the side of the house added novelty value and we instantly knew we had found the right one for us,” say the owners.
“We love all of the rooms and the views from the master bedroom overlooking the allotments were an absolute joy to wake up to. The open hallway was the heart of our home where we have fond memories of Christmas dinners with family before cuddling up in front of the wood burner in the sitting room. It’s never overly grand but is charmingly humble and comfortable, and our guests always enjoyed their stay in the beamed guest suite in the annexe. The farmhouse table in the large kitchen was a great entertaining space and the view from the window through the cherry tree to the red brick well is an appealing aspect. Working from home in the annexe was always a pleasure thanks to views over the mature trees and garden beyond.”
“We have refurbished and modernised throughout and converted the annexe into a TV room with storage, underfloor heating, and carefully considered electrical points. Oakley Barn provides a warm welcome after a long day at work and it has been a cheerful and cosy home for us and our growing children. The garden was a little haven where we kept three chickens and we lovingly created a glorious cottage garden with a small, terraced area that was a super sun trap. We miss the delightful country setting, Sunday walks to the pub through the woods, and our helpful neighbours who we consider good friends.”
“The nearby village of Sonning Common has a good range of amenities, including well-stocked convenience stores, Post Office, fabulous Health Centre, pharmacy, and an excellent fish and chip shop. There are a number of country pubs nearby, including The Greyhound, which is just a short stroll away through the woods. We enjoy easy access to road, air, and rail links, as well as miles upon miles of excellent walking and cycling routes, so it really is the best of both worlds here.”*
