An elevated 1960s home with breathtaking gardens and panoramic valley views.
Built in c.1967 and discreetly nestled into the wooded hillside, Fingals is a rare gem – a single-storey home set within a beautifully manicured one-acre plot, with commanding views across the Gordano Valley. Tucked away to the Eastern side of Clevedon, this private retreat offers exceptional outdoor living, generous proportions, and timeless tranquillity.
Approached via a sweeping driveway with a double garage and carport, the home opens into a spacious entrance hall – large enough to serve as a welcoming sitting area, complete with smart storage for coats and boots. From here, light flows through to the central inner hallway, offering access to the heart of the home.
Inside, the layout is bright, balanced, and ideal for modern living. A cosy sunroom or snug offers French doors out to the garden, perfect for reading or enjoying morning coffee. The generous sitting room features a feature fireplace and large sliding patio doors that frame the valley beyond. This flows into a large dining room – perfect for hosting or enjoying family meals – and a stylish kitchen/breakfast room. An unusually large utility room completes the living space and offers practicality.
There are four bedrooms in total – three generous doubles and a fourth single –alongside two bathrooms, including a private en-suite to the main bedroom.
Fingals is a superb bungalow and the present owners, Rosemary and David, explain that with a young family, they were looking for a family home and Fingals, a very spacious property in a semirural position, with a large garden and, as an added wow factor, the most spectacular views towards the Gordano Valley, answered all their requirements. It has been a most happy family home for forty-two years and Rosemary says they arrived with one baby and are leaving with four grandchildren.
There have been changes to the house during that time which include the addition of a porch connecting the kitchen to the utility room, modernising the pool, and the changing the lounge widows to patio doors, enabling better views and access to the garden. A decking area with a Perspex roof now allows al fresco eating in the rain, an art studio was built in the garden and a double car port constructed.
David explains that the space in the house allows the family to be comfortable together in one room, but everyone can have their own space if they wish. The lounge is perfect for family relaxation and if you want to feel really chilled out, you turn the chairs to face the tranquil and beautiful view across the lawns to the countryside beyond; and it is guaranteed to ease away the stress of the day. The sun lounge is also a great setting to sit with a coffee and appreciate your surroundings but is also an adaptable space where the owners can entertain a few friends or open the doors to the large hallway and create a much bigger space for a drinks party.
The large garden with the covered swimming pool, where children and grandchildren all learned to swim, an artist’s studio, and a putting green is the ultimate recreational place. It is also the ideal garden for children’s cricket and football, or an exciting game of hide and seek. The owners have fond memories of many happy gatherings in the garden, and with ample parking on the drive, there’s always plenty of space for guests to arrive and feel welcome.
It is a garden softly bordered by mature trees and the countryside which gently blends into the more formal setting. It is a joy to potter for an hour in one of the beds and then sit on the decking, and quite simply savour the delights of your surroundings.
Fingals is on the edge of Clevedon, a charming, active Victorian seaside town which is ten miles from Bristol and Weston Super Mare and has easy access to the M5 at junction twenty whilst Bristol airport is ten miles away. The town offers a pleasing lifestyle with a variety of attractions. The Victorian pier has a museum and restaurant, there is a large outdoor seawater swimming pool, and an indoor pool. There are many clubs and sporting activities, including a sailing club and a golf club, only a quarter of a mile from Fingals. With its coastal location and Somerset countryside Clevedon has several fabulous countryside walks which could start with a stroll along the promenade.
Rosemary and David feel very fortunate that they discovered Clevedon and Fingals and are going to sorely miss the space in the house and the views. They take away many very happy memories.*

A Garden That Captivates in Every Season
The gardens at Fingals are truly something special – designed not just to be seen, but lived in. Immediately outside, a large sun terrace is perfect for entertaining, soaking up the views, or simply relaxing with a book. A pergola clad in wisteria creates a magical spot for alfresco dining, while level lawns sweep gently down into a second tier of garden.
Between the terraces, mature borders burst with colour – a painter’s mix of trees, shrubs and seasonal planting. A small putting green adds a playful touch, especially with Clevedon Golf Club just up the hill, while a nearby heated swimming pool with retractable roof adds a sense of luxury next to a raised terrace. Adjacent to this, an art studio with a shower room offers huge flexibility – ideal as a creative space, garden office, or potential annexe.
A further outbuilding, currently used for storage, could be reimagined as a summerhouse – taking full advantage of its peaceful position and stunning views.
These gardens deliver the best of all worlds – from structured spaces for entertaining and relaxing, to quiet corners full of birdsong and colour. It’s a landscape designed for all ages and seasons.
