FINE & COUNTRY

Welcome to this unique and versatile family home that caters to modern living in various ways. Whether you seek multi-generational living, a dedicated space to work from home, or accommodation with a separate guest house, this property has it all. Originally constructed in the early 1930s, the main house has undergone architect designed extensive extensions and improvements while retaining its timeless symmetry from that period.

As you enter through the covered entrance porch, you’ll step into a spacious entrance hall that grants access to all the principal rooms. The hall boasts a solid oak turned staircase, accompanied by a fullheight picture window on the southern side, flooding the space with natural light. The sitting room offers a dual aspect and features a central fireplace with an elegant surround. From here, you can seamlessly transition to the light-filled conservatory, creating an inviting and airy atmosphere.

Stretching over 30 feet in width, the open plan kitchen/family room is a stunning centrepiece of the home. It showcases a modern array of wall, base, and drawer units, including provisions for a rangestyle cooker. Adjoining this space, the dining/family room boasts bifold doors that open onto one of several outdoor seating areas. Additionally, there is a rear utility/boot room accessible through another door.

At the far end of the hallway, you’ll find the formal dining room and a games room. The formal dining room impresses with its generous proportions, while the games room features twin bifold doors, creating another ideal space for entertaining. The ground floor is further completed by a home office/study and a convenient shower room.

We bought the property twenty-five years ago and as well as its wealth of potential, it was also this gorgeous setting that initially made us want to buy it,” says the owner. “We loved the fact that it’s set well away from the road, completely hidden from view, and the outlook from every single aspect is wonderfully leafy and green. It’s very peaceful here and we enjoy total and utter privacy, but at the same time everything we might want or need is very close at hand.”

“The house was built in 1929 and when we bought it it was dramatically smaller than it is today. However, it sits centrally within the plot and so there was lots of scope to enlarge it, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We essentially doubled it in size not long after we purchased it, and then we extended it again fifteen years ago, but all of the work was done very in keeping with the style of the original part of the house. It’s now a lovely big family home and it’s been designed for modern living, but we carried through features such as the high ceilings, the deep skirting boards and dado rails, all the things that give it character, and most of the rooms are duel aspect, which not only makes the whole house light and bright, but we’re also afforded gorgeous views of the garden.”

“The garden itself is just lovely. We have open lawns, beds that are full of an array of shrubs and flowers, and there are lots of really nice places to sit out, relax and entertain in. We particularly like the fact that it’s so peaceful and private. In fact, two sides of the property are edged with a thick belt of mature trees that were planted by the previous owners to enhance the wonderful sense of privacy, and they also create a really nice out look.”

“The games room is definitely one of our favourites. It’s a big light, bright room with folding doors that open straight out onto a large patio so it’s a lovely place to be, both during the summer and the winter. We have a TV in there, big comfortable sofas and a table tennis table so it’s a really nice room to relax in, and it’s also very conducive to entertaining.”

“The location is absolutely fantastic and offers something of everything. We have a great selection of shops and amenities close by in places such as Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester; we’re a short drive from the beach and the New Forest, and closer to home there are lots of lovely walks and a green cycle way so it’s the perfect place for anyone who loves the great outdoors.”

“As well as redeveloping the house, we also built the large barn-style annex, which was my office for around eighteen years. After my retirement it became a lovely and very spacious home for our daughter and her family while they saved up to buy a place of their own, and I must say it was wonderful to have them here and to be able to spend so much quality time with our two grandchildren.”

“What will we miss? Absolutely everything about the house, the garden and the barn,” says the owner. “It will be hard to leave this place, it’s filled with so many wonderful memories, but it’s time for us to downsize and for a new family to fill the house and enjoy living here.”* *
