SELLER INSIGHT Situated in the charming village of Fritchley is The Nook, a highly characterful and much-loved family home that boasts an extremely pretty garden and spectacular countryside views. “We bought the property back in 1974, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time here,” says the owner. “It was the quirkiness of the house itself and this beautiful location, overlooking the spectacular Wingfield Valley that drew me to it all those years ago, and they are both things that I still love about it.” “It’s such a picturesque setting, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and it’s a place where I can step out of my front door and go for lovely long walks across the Tors all the way to the neighbouring village of Crich or along the canal path to Matlock… The village is very much in the heart of the countryside, but I’ve never felt isolated. Belper is a ten-minute drive away, Matlock is fifteen, and in just over twenty minutes, I can be in the centre of Derby, where I can hop on a train and be in London in an hour and a half. So, all in all, it’s a place where I’ve been able to enjoy the best of both worlds.” “The house itself dates back to the 1600s, but over time we extended it and it’s now a very spacious family home. However, all of the work has been done extremely sympathetically, so it still retains that character and quirkiness that I fell for all those years ago. The dining room and lounge are both modernised lovely spaces, and fairly recently I had a light and airy sunroom added to the kitchen. It makes the space much bigger and brighter, and it’s given me a lovely place to sit and enjoy the stunning views over the valley.” “The garden is another feature of the property that has given me a lot of joy. It’s arranged over two levels, with a pond in the middle, a gazebo for alfresco dining, and another that I call my Gin Palace. It’s mostly hard-landscaped, so really easy to maintain, and I’ve added planters to soften the edges and provide both colour and interest. It’s a very peaceful spot, and because it’s elevated, it’s totally private, and it’s been a wonderful place for relaxing, entertaining, and just sitting and taking in those breathtaking views.” “My favourite room is the sunroom. I have my coffee machine in there, a comfortable place to sit, and of course, those views. It’s heavenly!” “Fritchley is a wonderful village with a friendly community, and there’s always lots going on. There’s a pub, a butcher’s, a bakery, a supermarket, and a surgery all within walking distance, and for everything else, I can either head into nearby Belper or Matlock. But it’s the sheer beauty of the setting that I love most.” “The property is elevated, so there are steps leading up to the garden from the driveway. Therefore, to make it accessible to all, I’ve had a stairlift installed.” “This has been a much-loved home for the past five decades, but it’s time for me to move on and for a new family to enjoy living here,” says the owner. “It will be the quirkiness of the house that I’ll miss most… that, and of course, those glorious views.”*
