OLD CHAPEL Situated on a quiet country road in the glorious Cambridgeshire countryside is Old Chapel, a very unique and extremely attractive family home. “Before moving here eight years ago my husband and I were living in Reading,” says Ann, “but we were tired of being right in the hustle and bustle of things and wanted to move somewhere where we could enjoy peace and quiet and a bit more space. We searched for quite some time, but the minute we set eyes on Old Chapel we fell in love with it; the location was absolutely ideal and the house itself was so unlike anything we had seen before. We were sure it would be beyond our reach, so when our offer was accepted we jumped at the chance to own it.”

Seller Insight Situated on a quiet country road in the glorious Cambridgeshire countryside is Old Chapel, a very unique and extremely attractive family home. We were sure it would be beyond our reach, so when our offer was accepted we jumped at the chance to own it.” “The property was built in 1929 and began life as a small chapel and the village Sunday school, however in 2005 it was converted into this lovely home, and I must say it was done to a very high standard. Externally it’s absolutely charming and internally there’s a nice mix of character features and contemporary fixtures and fittings; a really good balance of old and new. It was all exactly to our taste, but it was lacking a place where we could sit and look out at the garden, so we’ve added a lovely garden room. It’s brick built and has enormous windows so it’s really bright and airy. In fact the whole house has a very light, bright and open feeling and there’s a lovely flow from room to room. It’s a beautiful home.” “When we moved here the garden was lovely but a bit of a blank canvas as there was nothing but lawn,” continues Ann. “Over the years we’ve done a lot of planting so it’s now a really attractive space and as it backs onto the neighbouring nature reserve, not only is it peaceful and secluded, but it’s also a haven for wildlife.” “The garden room has been a lovely addition to the house,” says Ann. “It has a very high vaulted ceiling and big windows, so there’s a tremendous feeling of light and space, and the French doors can be flung open to create a really nice connection between inside and out.” “The house enjoys the most gorgeous setting with open farmland to the front and a nature reserve to the back, so it definitely offered the peace and tranquility we were after,” says Ann. “However places such as Peterborough and Huntingdon are very handy and the local transport links are excellent, so we’ve been able to enjoy the best of both worlds.” “The main living room is another stunning room,” says Ann. “It was the old Sunday school classroom, so it’s a very big space and hugely characterful.” “I’ll miss absolutely everything about this house, and if I could pick it up and take it with me I wouldn’t hesitate,” says Ann. “I doubt we’ll ever find anything quite like it again.”
