Seller Insight Set within a conservation area in a pretty part of the village, we immediately fell in love with this wonderfully unique property” says the current owner of The Old School House. “The house itself possesses such a sense of history, with lovely original features including the beautiful windows which look out over fantastic views of both village and countryside.” “Each room in the house has its own personality,” the owner continues. “The lounge has exquisite original windows overlooking the village high street, and is south facing so the sun streams in all day from morning until night. The dining room is a fabulously sunny room too, and offers views of the church and countryside beyond. The hallway gives a very impressive welcome to our home with its arch and its original flooring, while the kitchen is more modern, having been refitted to a high standard to suit contemporary everyday life.” The gardens too are exquisite, having had much love and care put into them during the current owner’s time here, including professional landscaping. “When we first moved in we employed a garden designer,” says the owner, “who created a wonderful outdoor space for us with well stocked borders, a water feature and various seating areas to enjoy al fresco dining in the summer. We also have a miniature garden to the side of the house by the log store, which is a lovely sunny place to sit in the morning over a cup of coffee.” The property sits within a conservation area so is surrounded by picturesque scenery. “We are close to the Castle, which was originally medieval but was later refurbished in the Victorian era,” says the owner. From the Castle there is a beautiful view of the river and scenic Churnic Valley. There are many histoical buildings on the High Street, some dating back to medieval times. “There are two fine churches nearby too, one with a peaceful monastery and cloisters.” In terms of local amenities, the village has much to offer too. “There is a Post Office and Londis convenience store,” says the owner, “as well as the recently renovated Bulls Head pub. The White Hart pub is owned by the community along with a coffee shop and garden allotments, fostering a real sense of community spirit in the village. There are more restaurants further into the village, too. There is also a Primary Health Centre.” “I will miss the character of this house, so different to any other property I’ve seen.” “I cannot choose just one favourite room, as they are all so different, each with its own character.” “A family with young children has recently moved in next door, this being a very family friendly area in which to bring up kids. Teenagers would love the attic bedrooms in The Old School House, too.” “This house is just perfect for entertaining, its spacious dining room having served us well for many dinner parties with friends and buffets with our six hungry grandchildren!”

ALTON Alton is set in a stunning landscape. The village and surrounding countryside has quiet walks, lakes, woodlands, sandstone outcrops and historic buildings, including the magnificent Alton Castle by Pugin. Alton is a very ancient village and one of the area’s prettiest; its dramatic, hilly location in the Churnet Valley is truly enchanting. From the river and the disused railway track, now a delightful walk, there are magnificent views of the Castle, its superb position and dark, Gothic design give it the romantic appeal of a fairytale castle, the restored railway station built by Pugin and the old watermill. The wonderful “Furnace Forest” trail is a 4 mile walk which offers superb views over the canopy to Alton and the Churnet Valley. The village offers excellent local facilities to include restaurants and bars, community allotments, village hall, primary school, whilst the Castle is used a Diocesen Youth Centre. The famous Alton Towers is nearby together with JCB’s worldwide headquarters where work is underway for a championship golf course. The National motorway network is within easy reach via the M1 and M6 both rapidly linked by the A50.
