Seller Insight It was the location, private setting and sheer beauty of the property that first attracted the owners of the Long House to this splendid Georgian family property in the sought after village of Great Alne. “When we saw the property’s beautiful splendour and idyllic location on this pretty, quiet no through lane we immediately fell in love, even before setting foot inside. The property was stunning, full of character, charm and warmth with such private gardens and grounds, and superb surrounding countryside, for us, that was it.” The Long House has a combination of traditional elements including flagstone and stripped pine floors, fine cornices and plaster mouldings to some ceilings, attractive dressed stone fireplaces to reception rooms and attractive traditional fireplaces in some of the bedrooms. There are Georgian style windows including two oriel windows to the sitting room, four panel doors and a traditional butler’s pantry. The traditional appearance of the house is combined with bright, spacious accommodation with large rooms offering well balanced family spaces well designed for practical living. “This house boasts fantastic living spaces” say the owners. “The positioning of the rooms enables the whole house to just ‘flow’ so well. The kitchen is the main hub of the home and one of our favourite rooms in the house. It’s a fantastic size with its warming Aga, life centralises around this room. The living room is an extremely beautiful room, a wonderfully large, bright room, full of character, with the lovely open fireplace, it’s a fantastic family and entertaining room. This is another favourite room of ours. We love to have friends and family over and the property is a truly wonderful house to entertain. All who come fall in love with the home’s charming ambience.” Since moving in, the owners have redecorated throughout, exposing the original floorboards and even installing a Bang & Olufsen music system wired throughout the ground floor and out onto the patio, as well as in the master bedroom suite. “The master suite is real jewel. The bedroom is large and beautifully bright having pretty windows on three aspects. It’s an extremely calming room and full of character. It boasts a large dressing room and further dressing area providing enormous wardrobe and vanity space.” say the owners. The garden room with French doors flows onto a patio entertaining space and out to the beautiful garden. “The garden is so picturesque and it’s an excellent size, with its own tennis court and adjacent paddocks and stables” say the owners. “It is magnificently quiet, extremely peaceful and private making it a wonderful family space and also superb for entertaining, particularly with the sound system speakers on the patio.” The local area also has much to offer, with the market town of Alcester just 2 miles away. “It’s a very friendly town, where it is easy for people to get to know one another and to integrate into its closely knit community” say the owners. “There are regular events such as street and food markets to bring people into town. Pubs, shops and quaint coffee shops are plenty, while Stratford-upon-Avon is also close for further amenities.” Schooling is also excellent in the area, with local primary and secondary schools close by. There are superb local grammar schools in Alcester and Stratford-upon-Avon and highly acclaimed independent schools, both preparatory and secondary, in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Bromsgrove. “To be honest we shall miss everything about this house. Its beauty and charm, it’s warmth and character, it’s tremendous flow and ease of living space, it’s peacefulness and tranquility. We shall miss the wonderful gardens and grounds with their beauty and privacy. We shall miss our small holding, something we have built up over the last 11 years, the stables, the barns, the lambing, the feeding routines and all that encompasses running a small holding. We shall miss the ease with which you can step outside and be on surrounding footpaths and bridal paths instantly. We shall miss this pretty, sought after lane with its wonderful folk.” “To live in such a beautiful property will be memorable in itself. We have endless memories of bringing up our daughter here. Starting and growing our small holding will be an everlasting memory. Purchasing just 8 Ryland sheep, having never owned sheep previously, and beginning the journey of lambing and raising sheep will be unforgettable. Adding Shetland ponies, border collies, cats and chickens to the mix has provided such wonderfully colourful memories for us all. The house, with its utter beauty and charm, will be totally unforgettable. Our memories of entertaining and bringing up our daughter in such a stunning, characteristic and warming property will never leave us.”
