Seller Insight Brynton House is a large and beautifully presented family home that enjoys a superb setting within the quite Lincolnshire hamlet of Northorpe. The property is believed to date back to c1825, but over the centuries it has been greatly enlarged and, in more recent years, beautifully renovated by the current owners. “The house began life as a farmhouse,” says Karen, “and at one time it sat on quite a considerable amount of land. When we happened upon it thirty years ago I’d say that it was not only the character of the property that attracted us, but also the superb location. Northorpe is a lovely little hamlet which is adjacent to the village of Thurlby and only a few minutes from Bourne, so everything is within easy reach and we also benefit from being surrounded by some really glorious countryside; I’d say we enjoy the best of both worlds.” “The house was in need of rather a lot of work when we purchased it, but we’ve enjoyed doing it up over the years. We’ve knocked down walls to create larger rooms, put in beautiful new bathrooms and we’ve also added a lot of bespoke fitted furniture so we have bags of storage. However I suppose the biggest change we’ve made was to add a huge extension, which has given us a really fabulous family space. It has a small kitchen area and a bar, so it’s a great room to entertain in, and we also installed a lovely big wood burner which creates a really cosy atmosphere.” “Off the new family room we have a summer room which opens straight out onto the south facing garden,” continues Karen, “so there’s a lovely connection between inside and out. Beyond that we have a very large patio terrace and the rest of the garden is mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by mature shrubs and trees. It’s a very attractive space and incredibly peaceful.” “The huge family room that we added in 2004 is the real hub of the home,” says Karen, “we spend such a lot of time in it. It has a really nice atmosphere and is large enough to take a couple of big, comfortable sofas and a full-size snooker table, so we have a lot of fun in there.” “I have really loved being so close to Bourne,” says Karen. “My husband works there and our two boys went to Witham Hall School which is 7 minutes away; we’ve been able to enjoy all that it has to offer without experiencing the hustle and bustle of living in a town centre.” “In the older part of the house we added a new staircase that lead from the snug and the study up to two bedrooms. It’s a part of the house that could easily be annexed off to create a wonderful space for either guests or elderly relatives.” “We’ve been here for thirty years now, so it will be a huge wrench when the time comes to leave,” says Karen. “It’s been a brilliant house and location to bring up our children in and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time here.”
