This work is conceived as a modular work with significant opportunities for audience interaction. It consists of twenty segments that can be played in a variety of orders according to audience feedback. There are four panels in the piece (1,2,3,4) each of which contains five segments (A,B,C,D, E). The segments within each panel must be played in alphabetical order but need not be played absolutely consecutively. The audience participates by choosing which panel number will be played. As an example, the performer starts by playing segment A in panel 1. The audience can then choose from any of the four panels 1,2,3, or 4. If the audience chooses panel 3, the performer will play segment 3A. If the audience then chooses panel 2, the performer will play segment 2A. However, if the audience then chooses panel 1, the performer will play segment 1B. Each time a panel is chosen, the performer will play the next segment in order. The performer should use four separate music stands. Each stand should contain the scores for the five segments in each panel. Each music stand should have a single white light (a “choice indicator light”) mounted to the side of the music stand that is visible to the performer and the audience. Prior to the performance the audience should be instructed to use their smart phones to go to a website that contains the voting mechanism, which will allow the audience to interact with the piece in real time. The audience will provide feedback to the performer at appropriate times to indicate which panel should be played next. The website will contain an interactive graphic with four numbers representing the four panels in the piece. Two pedals are mounted under the performer’s music stand - one for the performer, the other for an assistant. Either pedal can turn on a green light which will signal the audience to vote. Once the voting light goes on, the audience will have about 10 seconds to make a choice. An “arduino board” (an electronic device) should be connected to the lights and pedals on the stage and also connected to the voting website through a wireless connection. Voting responses received through the website will be processed by the arduino program to determine which response is the most common. The arduino board will automatically illuminate the white light on the music stand corresponding to the chosen panel. The duration between the start of the voting and the choice indicator light illumination will be around 15 seconds. An assistant will manage a laptop that projects an image behind the performer indicating which segments of the piece have already been played and which are still available to choose. The performer may choose to limit the number of opportunities for audience voting by not pressing the pedal at indicated times and instead playing multiple segments in a panel consecutively. In the absence of an internet connection the performer will have the freedom to start from section 1A and choose alone the direction of the piece. The order of the segments may also be rearranged before the performance at the discretion of the performer. The performer may also reduce the number of segments played, with the aim of maintaining the equilibrium among the number of segments played from each panel.

Other ways of performing this work 1. The performer may choose to limit the number of opportunities for audience voting by not pressing the pedal at indicated times and instead playing multiple segments in a series consecutively. 2. In absence of an internet connection the performer will start from section 1A and freely choose the direction of the piece. 3. The order of the segments may also be determined before the performance at the discretion of the performer. 4. The performer may also reduce the number of segments played aiming to keep equilibrium among the number of segments played from each series.
