Why would Bach, a composer in the Lutheran church, compose a Latin mass in a form that could not be performed liturgically in either the Roman Catholic or the Lutheran Church? Uncovering the answer to that question will offer insights into the makeup of this extraordinary work and composer. Soprano heroines are often the characters most caught up in Puccini’s operatic drama and who define Puccini’s style as an opera composer.
