TIM & LAURA KENRICK BOUGHT AMICI’S PIZZA & LIVING ROOM FROM JENNIFER STARK AND MAUREEN MCNAMARA, AND OFFICIALLY REOPENED THE RESTAURANT’S DOORS ON JANUARY 2, 2020. THE COUPLE RENAMED THEIR NEW VENTURE AMICI’S KITCHEN & LIVING ROOM TO REFLECT A MENU THAT INCLUDES MUCH MORE THAN PIZZA.

“We updated the interior with an entirely new design, new bar area, sound system and brand-new kitchen equipment,” said Tim, who has been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years and living in Berkley for 20. He explained how the two had originally opened the doors in a “business-as-usual” style. But, ten weeks later, they found themselves in the midst of the pandemic.

“We had to rely heavily on carryout during that time, which was very successful,” he explained. “And people came and ate outside even in the winter. We just had to shift gears and roll with the punches.”

Amici’s relied on its patio seating, and during the winter months, the owners put up a tent with heaters inside. While it wasn’t ideal, the pandemic closure allowed the Kenricks to tackle their interior renovations so they could make the space their own. AMICI’S HAD BEEN KNOWN FOR SOME TIME FOR ITS LIST OF SIGNATURE MARTINIS, and it still offers a one-of-a-kind selec-tion, now alongside an upgraded wine list and six Michigan beer options on tap. The restaurant also has specials customers can take advantage of throughout the week on an ongoing basis. Check out their signature cocktails. The Kenricks love being in the heart of Berkley, which Tim calls “a hidden gem of a neighbor-hood.” He said, “We have the most loyal regulars who are incredibly supportive. We also have an incredibly talented staff. We’ve created a casual environment with professional and proficient service.” Amici’s shows its appreciation for the support of Berkley and the surrounding communities by partnering with Affirmations in Ferndale, participating in its telethons and offering a dine to donate event.
