HAVING JUST CELEBRATED THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE MARKET-LIKE LOCATION OF CRISPELLI’S BAKERY & PIZZERIA ISN’T THE ONLY THING THAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT THE EATERY.

It’s been a long-time fan favorite for its soups, salads, deli and panini sandwiches, bakery items and, of course, its pizza. This eclectic assortment of “affordable gourmet” has led to many regulars over the years.

And that was the goal of co-owners and best friends since high school Joe Morelli and Mark Artinian when they first opened the joint with Joe’s brother, Kenny Morelli, and Artinian’s brother-in-law, Glen Willson, in 2012. Both having been in the business for a number of years, Artinian made a name for himself as the creator of Bosco Sticks before becoming determined to bring better pizza to Berkley.

“THE MOST POPULAR MENU ITEM IS PROBABLY OUR PEPPERONI MARGHERITA PIZZA,” said the company’s director Ron Nussbaum, which is a seemingly simple pie that includes tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella balls, basil leaves, olive oil, and pepperoni.

Thin crust and deep-dish pizza options are available, and the pies are cooked in front of guests in a wood-fire oven. Crispelli’s Club Room also offers large party seating up to 50 guests and a food truck is available for private events, which comes equipped with customizable options from its catering menu. Crispelli’s bakery space was renovated not too long ago to better accommodate guests.

Nussbaum said, of notable changes in recent years, “We are now offering carryout, and have doubled its size.” He cited that food and labor shortages as well as supply chain issues have all impacted the restaurant, but these things have forced them to be quick on their feet, finding adequate alternatives to keep up with demand.
