Dye Salon Wants You To Remember You’re Beautiful

Everybody thinks when they’re done with a client they’re like ‘oh your hair looks great’. But you're not selling the hair, you’re selling the client. It’s ‘you look great’. ‘How do you feel right now’?”. Billy Sandifer said.

Providing top quality service is one the most important standards for Dye Salon owner Billy Sandifer.

When walking into one of his salons, clients will be greeted immediately and made to feel welcomed. “If you walked into our salon you would have a lot of smiles. A lot of times when you walk into a salon you feel like you’re being looked up-and-down, when it’s really a misconception. The stylists are just looking to see who you are. Then they realize you’re not their client and they look away. But we encourage our stylists not to make that mistake, and smile and say hi. We do know that it matters,” Sandifer said.

One thing that separates Dye Salon from others in the area is their consistency. “The one thing I want to be consistent is the care, the customer service, the way we communicate, the way we educate. Our whole structure is set up around education.” Sandifer said. They are dedicated to providing great customer service to fit each client’s individual needs.

In order to provide top-quality service, the salon tracks customers' needs from the moment they contact the salon. When talking with possible client’s, they try to get a feel for what the client is looking for; whether it’s a new cut, new color, etc. Once the client is in a chair, they strive to connect with them to achieve their desired look.

“IT’S UP TO ME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT’S YOUR LIFESTYLE, what’s your work and what I can do to where you’re comfortable in your skin. You feel that change, but at the same time it fits your lifestyle,” Sandifer said. It’s all about the client at Dye and everything is personalized. This level of customer service is universal at its three locations in: Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Farmington.

When booking with Dye Salon, Sandifer created three service-level options for customers for selecting their style. Service levels give customers the freedom to select a level at a price they’re comfortable paying.

“We just wanted to accommodate as many people in the community as we could obviously. It’s good for business. It’s good for the community,” Sandifer said.

Dye offers a variety of hair care including: haircuts, highlights, lowlights, blonding, color, Keratin treatments, extensions, nails, waxing, and make-up application. In addition, they also offer a bridal package.

STYLISTS ARE VERY WELL TRAINED AND REGULARLY TAKE IN-HOUSE CLASSES. Sandifer believes it’s important for stylists to keep learning. On staff at Dye is a stylist who’s also a licensed cosmetology teacher. “That takes it a step further with our training.” Sandifer said. “Our customers are happy when our stylists are educated.”

Product company representatives also teach classes at the salon in addition to the in-house teacher. Sandifer welcomes active cosmetology students to attend the classes at Dye. Call Katie at the Ferndale location for more information.

Sandifer opened his first Dye Salon location in Ferndale because it’s his all-time city. “Ferndale has always been edgy, diverse. Everything I am,” Sandifer said. His first job was in Ferndale at a place called Sinbad’s. He worked as a new stylist shampooing hair.

At the time, according to some, Ferndale had lost its spunk. However, Sandifer saw differently since he worked in the city. “Back then it was different. There were a lot of stores closing, and a lot of people thought it was going down the tubes. Change happened. I could see very clearly from working in Ferndale that that wasn’t the case. For me it was kind of I got an opportunity there. It was a comfortable and familiar city. I took a chance and it worked out,” Sandifer said.

HE SUPPORTS LOCAL FERNDALE NONPROFITS AND BUSINESSES that need donations. “We’ve never said no to any charity,” Sandifer said. Recently Dye gave Pleasant Ridge residents free haircuts for the city’s fundraiser auction event. Sandifer has worked with the Eagles Club, the Ferndale Police Department, Affirmations, schools, and nonprofits. “Put it this way, if someone comes through our door asking for charity we’re going to help,” Sandifer said.

Stylists at Dye are encouraged to express their individuality and learn from each other. Stylist Lando has exceeded those expectations and Sandifer recently made Lando partner at the Ferndale and Royal Oak locations. “In the future he will be a partner of Farmington as well,” Sandifer said.
