Post Collars Protect Farm Animals and Posts

It’s all part of life on a farm – livestock and wildlife like to sharpen and clean their teeth on fence posts.

While they are having a great time chewing and rubbing, they are also damaging the posts. The exposed wood left behind after a good chew is open to the elements. Wind, rain, snow and ice over the winter months will cause more damage. The moist wood will expand and contract, splitting the post. And with the protected outer layer gone, the summer sun will get to work on the wood, finishing off what the winter left behind. Livestock can also be harmed. Horses and cows may eat the chips, which can cut their stomach lining and bring about infection. Farm animals can get colic and stomach ulcers from the wood, with severe consequences. All the wear and tear on the teeth can also shorten the life of the animal. There are spray coatings available that deter animals from chewing on posts, but these may actually poison the animal. harming animals? Yes, Fence Armor® Post Collars do both. “We get many calls from farmers and homeowners about problems with animals and fence posts,” says Al Martins, director/owner of Fence Armor®. “The cows and horses like a good old chew, while dogs, cats and wildlife like to spend time on the round fence posts. These animals, particularly the larger ones, can do a lot of permanent damage and will cost the landowner money. When we tell them we have the perfect solution, they are both surprised and glad. Our Post Collar products are attractive and offer lifelong protection.” Fence Armor’s Post Collar is a simple innovation that does a big job. Made of American galvanized steel, the collar provides round fence post protection. They are easy to fit and come in a size that adjust to suit posts from 3” inches to over 7” inches. Each collar has pre-punched slotted holes for easy adjustment to both diameter and taper giving it a secure clean fit to you posts. At the bottom of the fence, damage from mowers, trimmers and even animal hooves can have the same consequences. Fence Armor Post Guards will keep the posts safe and offer excellent round fence post protection. Maintenance is easy as well. Post Guards and Post Collars can be easily removed for maintenance, then reattached. Fence Armor is also used at the top of post to protect posts from horse cribbing. “Once you have our fence Post Collars in place, property owners can stop worrying about their farm animals and fence posts,” says Martins. “Both will be protected for years.”
