FENCE AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

The fence at Buckingham Palace in London, England, serves a dual purpose. Not only is it intended to protect the British royal family in their home, the fence’s elegant cast iron stakes topped with elaborate gilded fleurs-de-lis symbolize the majesty and longevity of the monarchy.

THE GREEN MONSTER

True to its name, the Boston-based Green Monster fence gained fame for its massive size and eye-drawing green color. The Green Monster is a major feature of Fenway Park and boasts 11-meter-high walls.

AQUARIUM FENCE

Another fence designed to impress belongs to Mehmet Ali Gökçeoğlu of Turkey. He replaced 164 meters of steel fencing with an aquarium full of fish, eels, octopus and other sea life. This aqua-fence is linked to the Aegean Sea through a 400-metre pipeline in order to keep its inhabitants healthy and happy.

BRA FENCE

Since 1999, hundreds of brassieres have mysteriously appeared on a stretch of wire farm fencing in New Zealand, attracting floods of tourists to the area. The fence has become a photo hot spot.

LOCK FENCE

While not actually a fence, the bridge railing in on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, France, became known as “Lock Fence.” It began to be ‘built’ in 2008, when love-struck tourists started attaching padlocks and key locks along the bridge. Stretching for around 155 meters, thousands of ‘love locks’ contained names and love messages, and visitors often threw keys into the river to further demonstrate their unbreakable bond. Unfortunately, in 2015, a twometer section collapsed under the immense weight of the locks, and the fence was replaced with glass paneling.
