CLUBHOUSE LEAD TRANSITION UPDATE
We are fully aware of the Government’s update on their proposed transition from lead. It is very disappointing that they have chosen not to follow HSE’s recommendations regarding a transition period of fi e years, and are instead proposing legislation of three years from being enacted in summer 2026. This would mean any restriction would come in summer 2029.
Since the announcement, we have een confirming details with the

BERETTA WORLD 2025: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
The Beretta English Sporting Championships 2025 was nothing short of spectacular. With nearly 1,000 competitors taking part, the atmosphere was electric from the first shot to the last. The spirit of competition was matched only by the camaraderie and a festival-like buzz that kept everyone energised, even in 25°C+ heat.
This year’s event took place just one week before the CPSA World English Sporting Championship at E.J. Churchill. For many, Beretta World served as the perfect warm-up platform –a final opportunity to sharpen skills, uild confidence, and head into the Worlds warmed up and fighting fit his ideal timing elevated the stakes and energy, making it one of the most exciting editions of Beretta World to date.
The Beretta World Championship stands alone as a testament to an unparalleled commitment to the UK clay shooting community. In fact, GMK and Beretta are the only shotgun manufacturers to actively support the UK market by creating and hosting such a significant competition he team at GMK plan a full year ahead, meticulously planning this championship. It demands an immense amount of resources and a substantial budget to bring to fruition. AN INCLUSIVE COMPETITION
The course this year had to meet the high e pectations of a di erse field

The targets were expertly crafted edgy, uick, low ying clays followed by high, looping clays, all set across the natural contours of the ground. The result was a course that kept the elite on their toes and allowed newcomers to experience the thrill of smashing clays.
SHOOTERS FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE WORLD
One of the most powerful indicators of the event’s stature is its international appeal. Competitors travelled from all over the world, including the USA, Budapest, Italy, France, Malta, and across the United Kingdom. A standout performance came from Junior shooter David Texas Ardis, who travelled from South Carolina, USA. Battling jet lag and new terrain, David scored and took first place in the Junior category.

AN OLYMPIAN CHALLENGE – A CLASS IN JUST 16 WEEKS
Former World Champion and Olympian Sprinter, Derek Redmond, is no stranger to sporting challenges, and indeed successes. But is Matt Stocksdale’s challenge of becoming an A Class Skeet shooter in just 16 weeks a challenge too far?
Derek has been shooting Sporting for a little over eight months, having been introduced to the joy of clays by friends and like many shooters, he wasn’t taken through a prescribed method of shooting and as such.
Matt Stockdale, aka ‘the Skeet coach’, said “if anyone can, Derek can... whatever he lacks in natural ability is made up with sheer determination and an extraordinary work ethic.”
Derek said, “I love a challenge and never shy away from one. I want my shooting to improve and understand how important Skeet is to that journey. I’m very competitive
and want to compete at the highest level possible. When Matt approached me, my answer was immediately, ’yes’!
Matt’s theory, and one shared by many successful shooters, is that Skeet improves your overall shooting performance. Logically, this makes sense, as all Skeet targets are seen among other disciplines, such as Sporting.
The question is, can Derek achieve an average score of 93.7% in such a short period? erek has confirmed he’s prepared to put in the hard work, shooting around 500 targets a week, at a number of different grounds. You can follow Derek’s progress with Matt in next month’s publication.

ENGLISH OPEN UNIVERSAL TRENCH
The English Open saw competitors battle it out in fantastic summer conditions, as Paul Ashley reports.
The third selection shoot of the year also saw the English Open Universal Trench hosted at Brook Bank Shooting Ground in Somerset in the middle of July.
Day two started just as day one, with blue skies and blazing sun. Everyone continued to shoot well and as the day went on the scores started to come in.
David Lloyd posted a fantastic score of 196/200 to lead the way. Then Matt Panter posted a 195/200 to just drop short by one target. He was closely followed by David Kirk on 191/200.
This competition had a lot riding on it, as not only was it the English Open, but it was also the cut-off for selecting the teams for the World Championships in Italy to be held at the end of that month.
The shooters were greeted with the blazing hot West Country sun and temperatures akin to Italy, so it would be good preparation for those who made it on to the team. This was going to be a test of attrition over two days and 200 targets.
SHOOTING UNDER A BLUE SKY
he first day of competition saw some great scores coming in from all the categories, considering the scorching temperatures.
Ultimately David’s 196/200 remained the highest score on the board and despite the finest efforts of the chasing pack, he took the honours. In doing so he also won Veterans.
The Ladies category was a tight-fought contest with Leanne Palmer shooting 175/200, Kath Bright 175/200 and Katie Cowell 174/200. Leanne eventually took the category after a shoot-off with Kath.
Lewis Kirk shot 189/200 to take the Juniors, Matt Panter won the Seniors, and Super Veterans was claimed by Kevin Borley with 180.
Congratulations to David Lloyd
for winning the championship – a richlydeserved win. Also, congratulations to all the other category winners and to Wesley, Alison and Brook Bank Shooting Ground for hosting the Championship.

THE 90TH ICTSC HOME INTERNATIONAL AND BRITISH OPEN TOURNAMENT
Held Friday 18 July and Saturday 19 July 2025 at Glenmoriston Estate Shooting ground, Inverness, Scotland. Report by England DTL Manager David Amos.
When I arrived at the ground on Wednesday and drove in the middle almost of nowhere, I was greeted with a total mecca of shooting grounds surrounded y tall fir trees with an eight-trap layout, Wembley cut grass, and an elegant clubhouse to match. I could instantly feel this was going to be wicked tournament with high scores and drama, knowing the weather was in our favour, which proved to be the case.
SATURDAY 18 JULY
t was fitting that the aptain icky Waghorne recei ed his first cap at this ground, the last time the tournament was here over 20 years ago. The day started with a team talk from the captain and then shooting started with lovely weather to go with it. As the scores were coming in it was going to be close

with regards to the Seniors. In the last squad of the day, which I felt the whole team and others came to watch, held the prospect of Rob Dietz posting a 300 and Gary Burton a 299. I really don’t know how they coped but they did it. They didn’t win the prestige senior o le up y ust two points short, but it gave Rob the coveted title of High Gun of the match. The Super Veterans won their event with Allan Henry (Mr Bywell) posting the only 100-straight of the squad, but David Priestman shot 99/ 296, dropping a target on his second line e finished uper Veteran High Gun. The Juniors also won their event averaging 293, lead by their aptain dward rmett on
The Overall top 30 guns of the match was won y ngland, which ga e the complete squad a winner’s badge. The day was followed by a lovely banquet at the Drumossie Hotel for the celebration and prizing giving, which started with Haggis! The Scottish Senior team had not won the event for 43 years which was mentioned numerous times.
a lovely banquet at the Drumossie Hotel which started with Haggis!
SUNDAY 19 JULY
After a good night’s sleep and a rethink and recharge, all the team went out with one thing in mind – to win. As the day progressed the 100-straights came pouring in from all teams, ut ngland seemed to ha e more and that’s the way it was. Starting with the uniors, aptain dward posted a , ory o le , o y urstfield , eorge adden , and ew ap ewis alton , to win their category.
he adies ust missed out y one point ut the aptain llie Whitehead put in a score of 99/290 – but the big score came from the current uropean aptain with a fa ulous to gi e her the ritish adies hampion The Veterans did not produce any 100-straights, but did score a high 290 plus to win their event, with new cap Ian Douglas on 99/296. Mark Shaw did contest Veteran of the match which was won by Ian. You know when I look at the Vets team it’s a group of really experienced shooters who ha e, etween them, won ust about everything.
Now we start the interesting part which nobody could have predicted –starting with the Super Vets, not only did they win their event, but the Captain Colin Heathcote posted a 300 maximum. This got the ball rolling with the possibility of six shooters on for a 300, including Nick McKeown and Lady Derville Gilmartin, Colin Lewis from Wales, Nick Haley from England, Robert Dietz and David Weston. In the end it was a fi e man shoot off for Colin, Rob, Nick, David, and Colin Wales fter the first round all ut Colin Heathcote dropped points, so he became British Champion.
What followed, finished up with o and ick shooting a mammoth shoot off with ick taking the unner up title and Rob the Bronze. It should be remem ered that o shot a ack to ack , ick his first , and olin back from a layoff – he said its was a
type of unfinished usiness and ust loves shooting.
The Senior squad, as they say, took the British day very seriously producing straights he captain shot straight o er the two days along with arry uf um, te e anes, ary Burton, Allan Henry, Dan Price (two fabulous 299). The New Caps did themselves proud – its not easy to
do a first international and the ner es sometimes will not go away. New caps William Gent and Sam Winterburn posted straights on the ritish and Keith Blaney high in 290 on both days. Toby Bean quietly went about his business shooting 299 at the right time.
The Governor Generals Cup, the Seniors won to much delight of the Captain. I would like to thank Captain Nicky Waghorne for his leadership and the team for going about their business in a very professional way, and helping others if it wasn’t going their way.
The last word has to go to Pip at the Scottish Clay Target Association firstly for running a complicated e ent and keeping her cool with all of our questions. Thank you to Pip, the vast amount of volunteers who made it possible, the DTL Rep Willie Smith, and the authorities at the Glenmoriston Estate Shooting Ground.

WORLD ENGLISH SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIP
James Marchington
Reports from E.J. Churchill on 12-19 July.
Brandon Powell successfully defended his title as English Sporting World Champion at EJ Churchill on 19th July, grinning from ear to ear as he held the trophy aloft on stage to loud cheers from the crowd. It was a poignant moment for the professional US shooter, who said afterwards: “It has been a dream come true for me to win it in England. The hard work and dedication has paid off.”
Powell’s achievement played its part in a wider success across the event for the USA, who sent an impressively large delegation across the pond to compete. They won the Open, Junior and Veteran teams competitions, coming runners-up in the Ladies and Super Vets teams and scooping the overall team winners trophy. Just to rub it in, they won the traditional friendly
Yanks v Brits competition as well. Given their truly amateur status, England’s teams could still hold their heads high, taking either first or second place in all the team events.
England’s shooters performed well in the individual classes and categories too.
Mark Winser and Brett Winstanley finished first and second respectively in AAA class, Amy Easeman won the Ladies, Dave Carrie Super Vets, and John Porter Colts.
bigger and better. “It’s something we’re really proud of hosting, we love doing it,” said EJ Churchill managing director Rob Fenwick. “The place looks great and it’s got a real vibe,” he adds, pointing to the busy restaurant, street food stands and bar in the sponsors’ village.
The prizegiving ceremony on the Saturday evening was the culmination of a fabulous eightday festival of shooting at the stunning EJ Churchill ground near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. The event, held under the auspices of the CPSA and the NSCA, alternates between England and the USA, and last year was held at the Matarese family’s M&M ground in New Jersey.
EJ Churchill has hosted the Worlds whenever it has come to England since 2014, and each time it seems to get
“I’m really chuffed with everyone who has come to exhibit and made an effort,” Rob continues.
“When we started in 2014 we just had one marquee; now we have all these e hi itors fighting to come and all wanting the best spot. Iain Parker from the CPSA and myself have strived for that, to get everybody involved.”
Iain Parker adds “One of my goals over the past seven years in my role has been to grow this into something quite special, and with our partnership with Churchill’s and with the NSCA we’ve been able to do that. It’s gone from strength to strength, whether that’s the number of competitors, the number of countries attending, the sponsorship, the trade village, the hospitality. The goal is

always to make it better and better, and I think we’ve done that again this year.”
Crucial to that success is the support of the sponsors: Browning, Zoli, Rizzini, Winchester, Eley cartridges, Baschieri & Pellagri cartridges, Swatcom, Schöffel, Le Chameau, Pilla and Starkey Outdoor who provided guns, cartridges, hearing protection, shooting glasses and clothing vouchers as prizes along with contributing to the prize fund. The championships also had valuable support from Teague Precision Chokes, Shots & Co, Holts Auctioneers, Fine Shooting Accessories and Laporte, the latter supplying all the traps and clays for
the championship courses.
The sheer size of the event is impressive. The main World English Sporting competition alone had just over 1,800 entries, with hundreds also entering the associated events: The Prelim Sporting, British Open Super Sporting and World Sportrap, as well as the pool shoots. Iain Parker explains that more than 1.2 million clay targets were deli ered to keep the targets ying, and the CPSA team are checking, inputting and processing more than 1,000 score cards each day through the week.
Iain adds: “Out on the course there are three miles of rope, and hundreds

evening saw the official opening ceremony
Course setter Steve Lovatt commented that the weather had presented some challenges: “First two days it was blistering hot. Day three and four the wind kicked in a little bit, which played a part. Then it got humid with the wind and the sun, then the rain came.” He added: “Seriously though, I’ve had a brilliant week. The boys and girls at Churchill’s have been fabulous, and we’ve had a lot of compliments about the courses.”
Thursday brought the arrival of the international teams, with a strong USA contingent adding a dash of red, white and blue to the scene.
In the afternoon the traditional friendly Yanks v Brits competition was held on the Skeet range behind the car park in front of an enthusiastic audience, with every hit raising a loud cheer from the crowd. The ritish team put up a good fight, ut ust lost out to the Yanks this time.
This was also the conclusion of the Prelim Sporting, needing a shoot-off to decide the winner. James Attwood claimed the win after a close shoot-off against Jacob O’Loughlin after the two shooters had tied on 96ex100.
hursday e ening saw the official opening ceremony, with the international teams parading through the sponsors’ illage in their uniforms, with ags held high, to take their place on the stage as their national anthem played through the speaker system – it made an impressive spectacle.
The following day the national teams oined the final rotation on the World Sporting courses, their team colours standing out in the sweeping landscape of the estate as they made their way around the stands. At this stage it was impossible to predict the end result, with the final rotation still to complete their second course of 100 targets – although several top shots were well placed with strong scores on their first
Friday also saw the conclusion of the Sportrap and Super Sporting which had run alongside the main world championship through the week. French shooter Bastien Havart took the win in Super Sporting, followed by Phil Gray and Brandon Powell in second and third place respectively. Bastien was close to winning the portrap too, ut was ust pipped to first place y ames ttwood, with Henry Collins coming third.
The super-finalists carried their scores with them, so the reigning champion Brandon Powell started with a threetarget lead.

THE GAME FAIR 2025
Report from The Game Fair 2025, held on 25-27 July at Ragley Hall, Alcester.
The Game Fair returned to Ragley Hall in Warwickshire over the last weekend in July, after a brief hiatus at Blenheim Palace in 2024. his is a firm fa ourite for
everyone interested in shooting, fishing, and all manner of countryside sports and activities. If you’ve never been before, you really should give it a go next year as it’s a great day out!
Our team were there in force with a stand on Gunmakers Row, complete with a welcoming garden area for members to enjoy complimentary tea and coffee and just relax for a few minutes to watch the world (and the endless crowds) go by. The team were there to help with all manner of questions, from mem ership enefits, training courses, and the hot topic of the
lead ban announcement to name but a few.
We were delighted to welcome 75 new and rejoining members to the CPSA over the three-day weekend, which was a 53% increase over Blenheim Palace in 2024 and a 29% increase when we were last at Ragley Hall in 2023. Welcome all to the CPSA!
We also had our team of ualified nstructors and Coaches on the Clayline, with fi e ha e a go stands operating from 9am to 6pm each day, come rain or shine, getting people safely shooting clays and leaving with huge smiles on their faces. We had approximately 1,000 people go through the line, so I’d like to thank our brilliant clayline team for another mammoth effort!
It’s not just the membership stand and the clayline for us though, we also run two separate competitions over the weekend featuring our Champion of Champions on Saturday 26 July and the Colts Challenge on Sunday 27 July.
Both competitions followed the same format with the competitors shooting the 50 English Sporting competition set by E.J. Post event, Nigel Hart: There were some surprising low scoring rounds: “Yes, I felt it was the temperature and high humidity that affected so many of us, it was really hard to keep concentration, it was obvious many of the shooters were really struggling.
Leading into the last day, I learned to build up the food and drink for the following day – it seemed to help!”
Senior: Paul Gillett went into the last day equal fourth with three other contenders, including Paul Lovick, but Paul managed to finish e ual third with Alessandro Gaetani (ITA) who he beat in the shootof +22+11 (11 being the result of sudden death).

John Price led the field from day one, finishing two targets ahead of his team-mate, Barry Green. Barry’s progress was not quite as smooth, going into the last day in e ual fifth, but a couple of solid rounds on the last day put him in silver, another good result.
John Price: “I thought the organisation really good and it was an excellent course, helped by the terrain, not set too hard but technical. I did get a bit nervous on the last day as I had an idea I was there or there abouts.

Great result for Katherine.
Kath Bright: “I don’t think it has really sunk in yet, I struggled in practice, but went back to basics and totally concentrated on my routine, and it worked! The first time won a medal was in 2017 when we won silver in the team.

“The last French Junior shot a 21, so Oliver needed a minimum of 22 for the team to beat the French, and that is just what he did. I watched Oliver on his last round from the scoreboard and then we all went down to the range to congratulate a phenomenal round under pressure.”
The GB squad achieved four medals in total
Matthew Rowland (18): “It was good, really enjoyed it as I got into my stride over the week. We are all friendly and shoot together at selection shoots, so that helped. Matt Panter:“Pre event I explained all the procedures and paperwork to the juniors, and helped them acquire skeet vests, also the practice bookings times and ranges. I was out there early, and as the practice ranges were getting very booked up, I took the initiative and booked practice for the GB squad.
“I watched the juniors practice
Oliver Austin (17) Did you know you needed to shoot a 22 to win team bronze? “No I didn’t, I just knew I needed to shoot as many as I can, and was disappointed I shot a 22, I felt I should have shot more was definitely getting tired on the last day.”
James Ward (15): “I regularly shoot at Fauxdegla where Mike Faux coaches me and gives a lot of support. I found it quite nerve wracking but the other team members helped, which was great. The heat, occasion and the competing over four days probably did sap the energy a bit but I loved the experience.”
General comments that came through from the Junior team members: The whole process leading up to and including the event was incredibly encouraging. The help and support was brilliant from everyone, supporters and team members, really friendly environment. We hope it will persuade people to come and try the discipline and see what it is like for themselves.
Paul Ashley, BICTSF UT Director: “Very pleased and massively encouraged by the GB performances.”
Although there were no gold medals at the WCH, the GB squad achieved four medals in total, two more than the Europeans, so good luck to the Paul Ashley in his endeavours to encourage increased participation.

CARTRIDGE A MATTER OF EXPERIENCE
CORNER
When it comes to personal cartridge selection, Drennan Kenderdine outline his criteria for ensuring the load matches the task at hand.
When I’m asked which cartridges I use, the answer isn’t a single brand or load. It’s layered. Price, reliability and availability all matter, ut ashy packaging doesn’t hat’s not to say I’ve never been lured by a goodlooking o , ut sense kicks in fast he artwork doesn’t break clays. choose what works o uff, no filters, no rituals traight out of the o , in front of a crowd or under a camera - a cartridge either performs or it doesn’t his isn’t a out testing unfamiliar ammo It’s about why I use what I use, and how I decide what earns a place in the ag Whether you’re starting out or have years behind the gun, cartridge choice is one of the few things you fully control. o, it’s worth getting right
HOW I DECIDE
reak cartridge performance into key points o single factor makes the decision, but together, the factors make the difference.
• Reliability comes first. If it doesn’t go bang, the rest is irrelevant. I want consistent performance, round after round, and it must suit my gun.
• Recoil isn’t just about comfort, it’s also about control.
abusive. I’ll shoot soft if the job suits. What won’t do is run punishing loads ust to pro e something
• Velocity is useful, especially at range. ut speed without pattern integrity is wasted y sweet spot is pace paired with good hardness around antimony , gi ing clean patterns and hard hitting pellets
• Ignition must be sharp and consistent. rimers and powders need to work together with no hesitation. he good ones fire the same in December as they do in June.
• Pattern is critical. he shot must stay round ecause poor shape ruins predicta ility test patterns on clays, not oards oard is static clays aren’t hot string and spread show themsel es properly in motion
• Break quality is the final measure. hips don’t count in my ook want breaks that leave no doubt.
• Aesthetics sell, but they don’t perform. I’ve shot ugly shells that kill beautifully. I’ve trained myself to look past the wrapper, even though humans are wired to choose what looks good.
Chips don’t count in my book. I want breaks that leave no doubt!
Harsh recoil shifts barrels, fatigues shooters, and causes long term damage like crisp, clean shells — something hot but not
BRAND AND SUPPORT
Cartridge brands often share components across ranges. What matters to me is availability and how the brands back shooters when things go wrong. hat happens o, want to know the people ehind the product are listening erformance still rules, ut ha ing support helps
PRICE AND CONTEXT
All cartridges work to a certain degree. I use entry-level loads, mid-range, and premium ammo depending on the day. I won’t waste high-end shells on close-range targets unless there’s a reason. That’s not being cheap – it’s being logical.
• Entry-level loads are reliable and underrated. I use them for warm-ups, volume shoots, and training. They’re soft, simple, and forgiving. Not every shot has to be a statement.
• Mid-range cartridges are my mainstay. The consistency improves, breaks get cleaner, and feedback sharpens. This tier offers choice – but it’s full of ego traps too. Badge loyalty and pub talk don’t cut it. A £15 box may outperform a £5 one, but not every shoot warrants the £15. It really is a matter of horses for courses in this instance.
• Top-tier cartridges are where I stop compromising. When results really matter, I go all in. That means checking packaging, crimp, shot shape, wad type, ignition and velocity. I choose balanced, reliable and hard-hitting loads which I trust under pressure.
MY RULE
f e er find myself hoping a cartridge will perform, I’ve chosen the wrong one onfidence matters ou can’t shoot well while second-guessing your ammo. A good cartridge won’t replace experience, but it will reward it. A bad one, even in the hands of a skilled shot, can undo everything. That’s why I test hard, live, and without bias. If it doesn’t measure up, I walk away. Cartridge choice shouldn’t be complicated – but the topic runs deep. Discipline, equipment, and entrenched opinions muddy the picture. My goal here is to strip that back and help shooters find what truly works f don’t trust it, I don’t load it.
DRENNAN KENDERDINE
With more than 30 years of expertise in testing and developing shotgun ammunition, Drennan’s contributions are seen in cartridges used at shooting grounds around the world.

In 1957, gunmaker Horst Blaser brought his ision of a safe, relia le hunting ri e to life with the Diplomat, a lightweight combination gun that became a major success. It featured an innovative single-lock manual cocking system with a lever on the grip, offering maximum safety. Horst became a pioneer in industrial manufacturing, leading to CNC machining in the late 1970s.
In 1985, Horst sold the business – then employing 60 people – to entrepreneur Gerhard Blenk from the Allgäu in southern Germany, spurring international growth. Employee numbers rose, sales increased, and the site expanded. A major milestone was the R93 bolt-action ri e, whose modular construction, manual cocking system, match trigger, repeatable mounting system, and compact design set global standards. More than 250,000 were sold.
to work for Blaser. Once I had my German hunting licence at the age of 16, there was no stopping the enthusiasm. Today I enjoy casual clay shooting in the summer months and game shooting in the winter months.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE GLOBAL REACH OF BLASER SHOTGUNS IN THE CLAY COMPETITION SECTOR?
The Blaser F16 and especially the F3 are very well established models on the clay scene. With the development of the FBX, Blaser underlined its ambitions in the shotgun market with great innovations. The low recoil, fully adjustable balance and new barrel design really sets the FBX apart from other competition guns. We have also expanded our team of sponsored shooters worldwide. The two main clay markets are the UK and the US due to the popularity of the sport.
The two main clay markets are the UK and the US due to the popularity of the sport.
Fifteen years later, entrepreneurs and hunters Michael Lüke and Thomas Ortmeier acquired Blaser, expanding it into a system supplier of premium hunting and outdoor gear. Blaser became a lifestyle brand. The F3 shotgun followed, as did the R93’s successor – the R8 bolt-action ri e, launched in and e ually modular. Blaser Safaris and Blaser utfits were esta lished ew ri es like the BD14 Bockdrilling and R8 Silence reinforced Blaser’s innovation focus. In 2017, Blaser entered optics with its own binoculars and scopes. On the shotgun side, the F16 was launched in 2016 in Game and Sporting versions. The latest innovation, the FBX, debuted in early 2025.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STORY WITH BLASER?
I started working for J.P. Sauer & Sohn, one of the Blaser Group brands, in October 2016 in Germany, and was asked to take over the UK subsidiary in May 2019. Shooting and hunting were a major part of my life even before starting
HOW HAS THE MARKET RESPONDED, AND WHAT IS YOUR BESTSELLING MODEL HERE?
The response from the UK this year has been overwhelming. When we got the first prototypes, the whole team was convinced we had made an absolute tool for clay shooting, but you never know until you show a product to the public. The response at the British Shooting Show was amazing and so is demand. Seeing the faces of shooters when they feel the reduced recoil is incredibly satisfying on our open days.
CAN YOU TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT WHERE BLASERS ARE MADE AND WHAT SETS THEM APART FROM OTHER GUNS ON THE MARKET?
All Blaser shotguns are made in Germany. Our factory is located in the south of Germany in Isny im Allgäu. Blaser has always been shaped by enthusiasm for innovation, German engineering and the manufacture of sporting firearms, along with a passion for shooting. This has always resulted in excellent products and perfectly coordinated complete solutions that we
are consistently expanding and enhancing.
We are delighted that many sponsored shooters stay with us for a very long time, convinced by the quality of Blaser shotguns. Excellent examples are outstanding shooters such as John Bidwell, Dave Ferriman, Will Page and Georgia Moule in the UK. At the same time, we are very happy to take new talents on board, such as Richard Bunning, who joined our team this year.
WHAT SORT OF AFTERSALES CARE CAN A BLASER CUSTOMER EXPECT?
We are especially proud to have an in-house service centre at our office in Guildford. We offer a 10year mechanical warranty on all our products. Our Blaser UK gunsmith, Michael Brown, recommends a service every two years or 20,000 cartridges. This will give you the best possible experience with our products.
All servicing is done by our factory-trained gunsmiths using genuine Blaser parts. We aim to turn services around within two weeks of arrival. Attention to detail is key in everything we do in the service centre, underlining the ethos of Blaser engineering and innovation. If you buy a secondhand Blaser and get it serviced in our centre, you get a two-year mechanical warranty on it, too.
WHICH BLASER MODELS ARE YOU PERSONALLY MOST PROUD OF, AND WHY?
On the shotgun side, it has to be the Blaser FBX which we launched this year. I have never handled another gun that is as smooth to shoot or has such refined alance
CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH THE TYPICAL LIFECYCLE OF A NEW FIREARM – FROM CONCEPT TO FINAL PRODUCTION?
We always follow our own in-house product development process. Product management imagines a new product based on customer-related features (user friendliness, shootability, balance, USPs etc he first prototype is then created We then go through severe testing conditions (drop, overpressure, wet, frozen, sand, dust, etc).
Once the prototype passes, serial production design follows. All quality gates must e passed and then final testing of product specifications, safety and handling is carried out. Once released, we closely track service questions after launch.
HOW DOES CUSTOMER FEEDBACK INFLUENCE THE EVOLUTION OF YOUR FIREARMS?
We value feedback from all our customers to further enhance our products and use every opportunity to exchange thoughts on existing models or discuss possi le refinements – whether at fairs, events, clay competitions or in the field ome exchanges with shooters or hunters go into more depth than others, often resulting in refinements or e en new products.
On the shotgun side, we involve our sponsored shooters in the development of new products. John Bidwell was heavily involved in the F3 development and Andras Szerdahelyi was our constant test pilot for the FBX.
WHAT ROLE DOES TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN FIREARM INNOVATION AT BLASER?
Innovation has always played an important role at Blaser (the F3 was developed from scratch) and has made us one of the industry’s leading innovators. We are constantly sourcing new materials or perfecting our processes to develop products that offer real advantages to our customers. Take the new DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating, for example, found on all visible steel surfaces of the FBX. It provides exceptional hardness and industryleading corrosion protection.
We use the latest tooling and machine concepts for serial production to ensure a sustainable environmental footprint.
Enhancements in injection moulding and materials help improve physical stress resistance while maintaining an excellent weight ratio. Digital simulation is used at the production and R&D level to speed up serial production and delivery times.
WILL BLASER EVER CREATE ‘THE PERFECT GUN’ OR WILL SUCH A THING NEVER EXIST?
ow would you define the perfect gun Shouldn’t a gun be tailored to one’s personal needs and gi e the confidence to succeed, either in competition or in the field f you take it from there, Blaser will have the perfect gun for you. We constantly strive for perfection and believe the perfect shotgun is the one that fits your ody and needs his is why we launched the 4D stock this year. Customers can provide four dimensions – cast, drop, length of pull and pitch – at the time of order, and have their stock made to exact measurements.
SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY ARE GROWING CONCERNS – HOW DOES BLASER APPROACH THESE CHALLENGES?
As shooters, we feel an innate sense of responsibility for our natural habitat. This deeply held conviction drives
Blaser’s commitment to preserving and protecting nature and wildlife. At Blaser, ecological, economic and social responsibility go hand in hand and guide our business activities. Sustainability is part of the company’s DNA and is continuously developed in meaningful ways. We also publish a regular sustainability report.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR BLASER OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?
Here in the UK, our focus is on growing our market share in the shotgun sector. Clay shooting has a huge following and we want to continue growing within it. With new products and ongoing improvements to our service, we’re ambitious about expanding our presence in both clay and game shooting. This goes hand-in-hand with our team’s commitment to building a community of laser aficionados who alue our innovative approach. Continuing to build the Blaser family alongside our sponsored shooters is a definite focus for our office

GAIM VR
- REVIEW -
Mark Brown reviews the GAIM VR shooting simulator.
The world of virtual reality shooting continues to develop at pace and this issue we are looking at the offering from GAIM based in Sweden and originally developed by Aimpoint the inventor of the red dot sights. They have developed a complete offering of both software and hardware for simulated clay shooting, ri e shooting/stalking and even handguns! Like others on the market, you do need the VR headset such as Meta Quest 3 in addition to the gun stock so you have to factor that cost in to your total budget when looking at the prices mentioned later in this review. At the time of writing the Meta Quest 3 is £469.99. Firstly it was very interesting to see the huge amount of both physical and virtual adjustments for the shotguns (there are two available, over and under and semi-auto). On screen you can adjust length of stock, cast and drop to suit your own requirements these are virtual and you can see the effect of what any adjustments you make are doing to the shotgun and how it alters your view in real time on screen. In addition to this we were testing the GAIM adjustable wooden stock and that has physical
It was very interesting to see the huge amount of both physical and virtual adjustments for the shotguns.
buttons to allow the comb to be raised as you would on a normal adjustable stock but also the length of pull too. Between the virtual and physical adjustments, you can get a perfect gun fit in no time at all ha e to say that really liked the more traditional feeling of a wooden stock that feels like a normal shotgun and it is very clever how the Bluetooth enabled trigger unit works with the Meta Quest system to deliver a very natural feeling shooting experience.
t’s important to stress here that you do need to spend time working on these adjustments and not just try and jump straight in and start shooting – the whole system is so sensitive that just like normal shooting if you are not looking where the gun is pointing then you will miss time and time again.
Once you have the gun set up then you are in to the shooting and the clay offerings available are quite compelling, if you purchase the complete software bundle (€420) then you get American Trap, Skeet, Trap, 5 stand (Sportrap) and Simpro so lots of variety to choose from and certainly very testing. ersonally, would ha e preferred something closer to English Sporting to shoot but that’s a personal preference Also in the complete software bundle is all of the game related shooting –pheasants, wood pigeon, wild boar, ducks, bear and many, many more. Naturally, the scenarios for deer and moose etc all use the ri e function rather than shotgun. f you don’t want to outlay so much right at the start you do have the option to purchase individual scenarios at a cost of between €29 to €49 per scenario.
So, there is a massive choice of shooting available but what does make VR an important training aid is the analysis of shots and most importantly demonstration of where you missed. This is where the offering
really does deliver, you can opt for instant visual notification after each shot
A red dot will show that you missed and it will appear a o e, elow or nfront or behind and that allows you to adjust lead or cut back on the following shots and it’s ery easy and intuitive to use n addition to this you can also do in depth analysis of your entire shooting after you have finished the session he system stores every shot you have taken, and you can look in detail at each one and see how the gun moved (with lines of gun swing shown on the screen) where you took the shot and where the shot placement ended up. This
the scenarios are varied and exciting too.
is great to use and offers so much detail and it is here that VR can really help you with your shooting in a way that we can’t always get on the clay ground. Time spent in this kind of analysis is critical to changing the way that we shoot clays and should result in a positive impact to our scores. There is a reasonable investment needed for the system, ut you do get an awful lot for that cost. Prices are €424 for the gun stock only, €472 for the gun stock and 6 hunting scenarios or €420 for the complete software bundle that gives you everything apart from handgun shooting and is definitely the most
cost-effective purchase. ha e really en oyed using the system, it’s intuiti e and the scenarios are varied and exciting too especially the pigeon shooting t would be good if there was an option to add some weight to the gun stock as found it a little too light which then led to a tendency to over lead some targets. These VR systems and software are a good way to practice at home they are not designed to try and replace physical clay shooting they are an enhancement to try and help you improve your shooting and that has to be seen as a good thing.
CPSA SPONSORS ELEY
–
FACING THE –
Clay shooting in the UK is entering a period of major change. While lead remains legal at present, increasing environmental pressure, proposed legislation, and evolving public sentiment mean the shift to steel shot and biodegradable components is no longer a distant concept. It is becoming a reality that the shooting community must start preparing for.
At Eley Hawk, we recognise the value of lead in cartridge performance and the historical confidence shooters have in it. However, our position is clear: the industry must be proactive, not reactive, in preparing for what lies ahead. As manufacturers, shooters, and governing bodies, we have a responsibility to ensure the sport is both sustainable and forward-thinking.
innovation and regulation are already moving forward.
LEARNING FROM INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
One of the best comparisons we can draw from is Denmark. Their transition away from lead took around 15 years to implement fully. That time was essential in enabling shooters, grounds, and manufacturers to adjust and align their practices without harming participation or performance standards.
To see the latest lead-free offerings, visit eleyhawk ltd.com
There remains a strong contingent within the community that is committed to keeping lead alive, particularly in clay disciplines where performance expectations are high. But while that debate continues,
In the UK, the timeline is likely to be shorter.
With the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommending a ban that could begin implementation by 2026, with a three-year transition period. This would place full restriction on lead for most clay uses by 2029. We believe this is achievable, provided the right information, product support, and user confidence are in place.
THE ROLE OF THE CPSA
The Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) has a vital part to play in this journey. It has been active in government consultation
Carl Weller from Eley Hawk looks at preparations for a lead-free era.
and has pushed to protect the interests of clay shooters, especially at elite and international level. Beyond lobbying, the CPSA is also focused on providing its members with accurate information, clear guidance, and the reassurance that the sport will remain competitive, inclusive, and future-proof.
We at Eley Hawk fully support the CPSA’s approach, and we’re working alongside them and other industry bodies to ensure a well-managed and informed transition.
PRACTICAL ALTERNATIVES ALREADY AVAILABLE
Eley Hawk has invested significant time and resource into developing steel and ecofriendly loads that can deliver the performance expected from our name. Our Olympic Blues Steel range, available in both 28g and 24g, is designed specifically for clay shooters who need consistency, accuracy, and familiar handling without compromise.
We’ve also been early innovators in eco-wad technology. Our Pro Eco range uses fully biodegradable wads to minimise plastic residue without sacrificing pattern quality or downrange energy. These aren’t experimental
cartridges – they are proven and in use today across clubs and competitions throughout the UK.
LISTENING TO SHOOTERS
Throughout our development process, we’ve engaged with clay shooters from every level. Whether they’re Olympic medalists, club regulars, ground owners or coaches, their input continues to shape what we bring to market. We’re confident that as performance data continues to grow, so will confidence in lead-free options.
LOOKING AHEAD
This transition should not be viewed as the end of something. It is the beginning of a more sustainable, responsible future for clay shooting in the UK. With the right transition time, strong collaboration, and ongoing education, we can protect everything we love about the sport while making sure it’s fit for the next generation.
Eley Hawk is committed to supporting this journey –through product innovation, technical advice, and partnerships with key bodies like the CPSA. Together, we can ensure the clay shooting community remains strong, adaptable, and ready for the future.

Welcome all to a continuing fine summer of shooting from our Shropshire shooters.
The world ESP at E.J. Churchill’s saw a great many Shropshire shooters making the journey south to test their skills on what has been described as a quite stiff but fair and testing course. Shropshire’s very own up and coming Junior Sam Linington shooting a 176 to take second in AA and second in Juniors. What an outstanding show of skill and professionalism on young shoulders, shining the path forward for our future Colts and Juniors. Other notable scores include Mike Jones 173, Mike Cashmore, Dave Wincott. The Prelim saw Mike Jones 91, Stewart Owen 83, along with many other great scores from our Shropshire shooters. Thank you for your conduct and support whilst out representing Shropshire.
With July and August being the busiest period of the competition season, it is heartening to see the wealth of county shooting talent spread across the disciplines.
Firstly, congratulations to Shropshire OSK shooter Aaran Eccleston and the GB Skeet group on their Bronze success at CNTS, Chateuroux, France at the end of July, with teammates Ben Llewellin and Amber Rutter becoming European Champion and Silver medallist respectively. Also congratulations to the Junior Women’s Trio on their Gold medal performance.
In Helice/ZZ the county is well represented with three shooters participating in the team selection shoots for the 2025 World Championships. We had been praying for rain but didn’t actually mean on the day of our All Round – but anyway who are we to say. All Round is always popular so an early start for some with the first s uad going out at am hey had the consolation of staying dry.
It didn’t take long before some pretty good scores appeared on the board. A few kicked off with 25-straight on Single Barrel, but All Round is about consistency in four disciplines. It’s been a busy month for Norfolk shooters, with excellent results across the disciplines, despite the changeable weather conditions. A big thank you to everyone who has already represented Norfolk in the Inter-Counties championships this year, and to those who will be competing in the remainder of these competitions.
13 Jul: EM Inter-Counties DTL Championship, Nottingham & DGC Congratulations to the Norfolk DTL Team members. The Veteran team of Robert Flowers, Richard Gilbert, Paul Owen and David Smith triumphed in their category, winning by one point over arch-rivals Suffolk. The Senior team of lake asey isher, ean rutchfield, Paul Freeman, William Gilbert, Allan Hilton, Tony Johnson, Jason Matthewson, and Richard Sutterby were third. Their combined scores earned the team the maximum eight points towards the Directors’ Trophy Competition.
13 Jul: Norfolk SKD Championship, Eriswell Lodge
Well done to the Norfolk Skeet shooters who attended this competition. Alison Coupe set a score of 94 to beat in the very warm conditions. This was then equalled by Simon Owen, which forced a shoot-off to decide the overall winner. Congratulations to Alison who triumphed
(89) looked like we were heading for shoot-off.
However, on the last squad of the day, it came down to the ‘battle of the Billy’s’ as last year’s Champion Billy Cook went into the Sporting seven points down, hotly pursued y illy aton who was ust fi e points down, with Billy Caton running out the eventual winner.
Phil Thomas’ score of 89 gave him the Veterans title and A Class, Lee Sallabanks AA and Billy Cook B Class. Countback determined C Class winner, as both Brian Loader and Nicola Mason had left the ground, with Brian running out the winner due to his last discipline Sporting score. The event attracted a good entry of ladies with six ladies competing for the title with Jackie Houghton picking up the award with a very consistent 78. Runner-up was Nicola Mason. 26 Jul: East Midlands ESP Championship,Chalk Farm CG
Despite the very wet conditions this event was well attended, with 62 of the 115 competitors from Norfolk. David Gooding and Karl Hagan tied at the top with 93, and as both competitors were still at the ground, a shoot-off was held to decide the winner. After eight targets, the scores were equal, so it was on to a sudden death shoot-off. Congratulations to Karl, who held his nerve to win the championship. Avoiding a shoot-off in the rain, and instead agreeing to use count back, Susan Hallwood took silver in the Ladies, and Heather Pointer took bronze. Congratulations also go to Oscar Nichols, who was third in the Junior category.
26-27 Jul: Fourth England ABT team Selection Shoot, NCSC
William Gilbert and Rhys Dixon competed in the last ABT Selection Shoot of the year. Congratulations to William (189) who was joint Third Overall. Rhys (159), who was the only Junior competing, came 26th. Both are now eligible for a place on the England Team, which will compete at the HCIT in Omagh in September; and William’s total of six points, from the High Gun scores of three competitions, gives him the joint lowest score of all the England Team hopefuls.

Its been a very quiet time of the year for entries into shooting events. The weather hasn’t helped the situation with each day providing challenges of which of the four seasons would dominate. The month has seen scorching hot days, downpours, and thunderstorms to rival any on earth. We’ve even had days where the wind chill has been challenging not only to keeping warm but also for keeping things grounded. Clays have been doing interesting things, shooting off into the clouds or struggling to get into the air. Racking up decent scores has challenged even the best shooters at times.
13 Jul: ZZ Helice
The county has seen evidence of the depressed entry numbers not a single county gun turned up to the ZZ Helice Championship held at Rugby and District Gun Club. John had put on a great competition with Leicester and Oxfordshire but whilst it was enjoyed by the other shooters, nobody from our county turned up. This entry represents the fourth year running that there hasn’t been a single entry. A conversation point surely for the

county committee. Thanks nevertheless go to John for putting on the event for us.
17 Jul: Olympic Skeet
The same can be said for the county Olympic skeet. In 2024 there were 11 entries for this, giving some hope that there was a growing interest in the discipline but this year we again dropped to just four guns. This doesn’t take away the scores put in by the shooters, but it does add weight to the thought that if you turn up you are almost certain to win a trophy. Andrew Lea took the Senior title with 44ex50, Ali Briglin the Junior title with 35, and Bob Meadows survived the challenge to the Veteran title by beating Jason Shortland on countback.

What a cracking day for the 100 Super Sporting, which also featured the Nottinghamshire County Championship at NDGC. The weather was warm but overcast – perfect shooting conditions – and the course? Simply brilliant. A massive thank you to the ground staff who did a top job setting a varied and challenging layout. Everything ran like clockwork, a credit to the planning and hard work that goes into these events. We witnessed some excellent scores and fierce competition across all categories. Congratulations to all the prize winners! Notts County Champions: County Champion Kev Warner 93, Second Overall Ben Hunt 91, Third Overall Andrew Beamish 91, Veteran Champion Pat Dickman 90, Lady Champion Kat Hunt 74, Junior Champion Joe Turner 89, Colt Champion Hugo McCarthy 42. A special shout-out to Hugo McCarthy, who claimed the Colt Champion title in style, his ery first egistered shoot and his first ounty Championship! What a debut – brilliant work, Hugo!
Edward Armett Shines in Invermoriston
Over the same weekend,
this. Senior and Veteran shooters joined forces to compete against the other regional counties. Jason Potts was the highest scorer for the county with 99/291 with Leon Gill on 98/289 not far behind. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to give us a leg up to any medals especially in the face of Junior High Gun Leicestershire shooter Joshua Kind scoring a stonking 99/296. We did manage to gather three points to start our run on the Director’s Trophy leaderboard. Thank you to Luke for organising the team and thank you to all who shot.
27 Jul: Inter-County Skeet
This was shot at the local ground in near perfect conditions. The sun wasn’t too intense, and the wind didn’t mess about over the centre peg. With 51 out of 98 guns shooting 90+ scores the clays couldn’t have been kinder. Mick and Isabel Russell
dward rmett was ying the ag for England in Invermoriston, and what a weekend he had. Day one featured the Home International, a closed match between the UK and Ireland national teams. This year, Edward had the honour of captaining the England Junior Team and rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion. Not only did he lead the team with style, but he also claimed Overall Junior High Gun, England Junior High Gun, and Junior Captain High Gun. Day two brought the British Open, and Edward once again delivered under pressure. Dropping just one point across the oard, he finished on to take the title of British Open Junior Champion. An outstanding weekend from a young man who continues to make his mark!

World FITASC, Kronos Village, Cyprus
Our Chairman, Richard Pike, shared his experience: “The trip to Cyprus for the World FITASC was an absolute pleasure. The location and climate always present a challenge, but the prestige of the event itself adds to the excitement. I was looking forward to seeing world-renowned shooters from around the globe compete. I was certainly not disappointed when I found out that Theo Ribbs and Renae Birgan would be part of my six-person squad at the opening ceremony. There’s no other sport where you can compete alongside and get to know athletes at the very highest level on the world stage.
“On a personal note, I felt I underperformed, shooting 154 out of 200. To be honest, I struggled to read targets with little or no background, which were cleverly set by Jamie Peckham. But there’s always next year!
“For those who have never travelled overseas for a shooting event, I strongly urge you to do so. It’s a truly tremendous experience and challenge. You’ll meet new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.”
24-26 Jul: The Game Fair
Sam Sawyer represented Dorset and shares his experience… “It was a privilege to represent Dorset at the Game Fair this year. I had to leave home at 5am to arrive in time to register and shoot my round before 12pm.
“The course was a tough 50-target shoot he top fi e scores went through to the super final here were some low scores on the board, but some big names didn’t make it through ualification knew I needed to be focused, but unfortunately, it didn’t go my way. I misread a target on stand and missed the first two pairs out I knew this could cost me, but I continued to shoot the rest of the course well. I shot the tough targets well, but ultimately, the early mistakes put me two targets away from ualifying for the final opefully, ’ll get the chance to put it right and represent Dorset again.” Well done, Sam! Thank you for representing Dorset. It was a super effort and achievement.
A plea to our Lady Shooters

A great 59 H&IOW shooters turned up for the Super Sporting Championship despite the damp and drizzly weather.
We had 11 stands with a mixture of singles, on report and Sim pairs. There was plenty to catch you out and boy do you have to concentrate on what’s coming next! It was a thoroughly enjoyable course and
there were lots of smiles about (well maybe not on Stand 5!)
Great to see a new name joining our 2025 Champions with Tim Connolly shooting an amazing 97 in one of the last squads of the day to take the title by some margin. Our Veteran Champion was Roy Clayton with 88, Ladies was Jennie Cartwright with 87, Charlie Faulds shot 91 to take Juniors and Bertie McFarlane 72 to take Colts. Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to Team OLSS for putting on a great day.

At the Beretta Worlds RF once again put in a great score of 115ex120 which led till the last afternoon when he had to go back for a four-way shoot-off for third. Experience shone through and he took third Overall. Also worthy of a mention Sean Gamblen shot 114 to take third in AAA.
At the South of England DTL Championships at NCSC Stuart Cureton took High Gun with 299/300, awesome performance. Philip Cole also shot well to take runner up in Veterans with 96/280. A hot day at Fareham for our H&IOW Skeet Championship, thanks to the team

A sunny Saturday at Fareham saw 28 shooters battle it out for the H&IOW ABT 2025 title. It was a close-run thing but our County Champion for this year is Alex Smith, our Veterans Champion is William Maclennan and our Ladies Champion Sharon Morris.
The Coley Classic was held this month, a good shoot with a great set of targets, well done Team Coleys! Phil Marks was our top shot with 112 and Dan Bishop not far behind on 109. We also had Lee Pitman on 103, Martin Reynolds on 102 and Anthony Harper Justin Clayton and Josh Maclennan on 100.
Orchard who has recently turned in some cracking performances. Chris won C Class at both Gunsite and Hangman’s Stone with scores of 88 and 86 respectively. Well shot Chris.
The County would like to thank Will Thatcher who represented Wiltshire at the Champion of Champions shoot at The Game Fair in July. Unfortunately, the shooting line was so crowded Will couldn’t complete the 50-target Sporting comp in the allotted time. But at least he enjoyed the Game Fair!
final reminder to all Wiltshire shooters that the County’s AGM is being held at Barbury on Saturday 11 October at 4pm. The meeting will be preceded by a 100-target Registered ESP but any County shooters wanting to participate in the competition and attend the AGM should ensure they sign up for a squad leaving no later than 2pm.
It is traditional at the AGM to present County champions with either cups or shields. Unfortunately over the years a number of key cups have gone missing or not returned. We are lacking silverware in some key disciplines such as
Skeet Champions Martin Fleming, Jayne King, Chris Bloxham.
Jennie Cartwright, Tim Connolly & Charlie Faulds. Stuart Cureton.
All Round, Super Sporting and FITASC, if you have been a worthy recipient of ny of these cups or shields could you please let Steve Webb know at: stevewebb44@me.com.
It was pleasing to see such a great response from county shooters keen to
represent Wiltshire in various Inter-Counties competitions he first is eing held at wl’s Lodge on Saturday 13 September but please keep an eye open for future competitions. Anyone who missed the last call to participate please get in touch with Simon Cuthbert at: simon@varchannels.com.
Finally, I would like to ask Wiltshire shooters to please get in touch with any news, stories, pictures etc that cover your sporting prowess – here or abroad – so that we can include them in future editions of Pull! Magazine. Please send them to baron@baronphillipsassociates.com.

As I write this the ESP World Championships at E.J. Churchills are a distant memory and by the time you read this the ESP British Open at Eaton Hall will have been and gone.
ESP World Championships
Held at E.J. Churchills in July saw clay shooters from around the world descent on the ground for a week of shooting, some did all the events some only one or two. Statistically these were the number of Sussex shooters who competed in the main events against the total entries: ESP 63/1777, Sporting 27/690, and Super Sporting 46/1031. Standout performances were from Pete Goldsmith and Fletcher Gillingham both in Sportrap. Pete got High Gun in AAA Class whilst Fletcher took High Gun in A Class and also took the title of Junior Sportrap world champion. Congratulations to you both.
South East of England Sportrap Championship
Held at Southdown on Sunday 20 July, Guy Franklin won another Sportrap title with 94/100. Fletcher Gillingham was Junior champion.
South of England Sporting Championship
Held concurrently with the SE of England Sportrap at Southdown, Pete Goldsmith took another title within a week of his win at the Worlds. Ever-consistent Fletcher Gillingham took a second Junior title in a day and Felix Grieveson took the Colt title.
ABT
Held on Saturday 2 August at the NCSC, 12 Sussex shooters competing for the county title. At the end Alasdair Williams was crowned champion, Veteran was Paul Wingrove, and Ladies was Mhairi-Ann Troup. Unfortunately no Junior or Colt took part.
The shooting season is in full swing and the Worlds have come and gone. The World English Sporting Disabled Standing High Gun was Mark Delf with 162, followed by Iain Cochrane in second 161 and Mark Langford in third 146. Dan Parker taking High Gun in Disabled Sitting 133, followed by Paul Bailey 126 and Adrian Last 110.
World Sportrap Disabled Standing High Gun was Mark Delf 77, second Sam Nunn 68, third Mark Langford 62. Again Dan Parker taking High Gun for Disabled Sitting with 68 followed by Paul Bailey on 54.
British Open Super Sporting Disabled Standing High Gun Mark Delf 88, second Mark Langford 68, third Ray Sheppard 50. Dan Park again led the way and showed us all how it's done as the Disabled Sitting Shooter taking High Gun and making it a hat-trick with the Super Sporting, Sportrap and English Sporting, Exceptional achievement!
Next up was our Have-a-go day and social event at Eriswell Lodge. We had a fantastic time and were fortunate to stay mostly dry until just before we enjoyed a delicious barbecue. As the torrential rain rolled in, we collectively decided that it was best not to venture back out to complete the last two stands of the 100 Sporting clays.
It was wonderful to welcome a few new shooters along with both familiar faces and long-standing members.
A special congratulations to Darren Wiles, who scored an impressive 51 and earned the title of High Gun for the day. Following him were Dan Fish with a score of 46, Craig Manning at 42, and both Ben and Dave on 36. Ray scored
SE Region Inter-Counties ESP Champs Shot at Southdown on Sunday 3 August saw teams from all over the SE Region converge on Southdown for the annual team event. The weather wasn’t as hot as previous weeks but the wind did pick up steadily over the day, nothing unusual for a competition at Southdown. It was a very tight finish with usse the o erall winners by one clay over Kent with 417 to their 416!

OBITUARIES MIKE GAMMON
1940-2025
Mike died peacefully on the 12th of July 2025 at West Suffolk hospital, Bury St Edmunds.
Mike was a lifelong clay pigeon shooter from the straw bale shoots in his early teens of 1965 leading up to representing his country internationally across the world, winning gold on his England Debut in 1999 and silver for Great Britain in 2006.
Along with these achievements, he was also given the honour of becoming the captain of the England FITASC sporting clays team.
in his later years, he taught novices of all age groups, young and older taking pride in teaching the younger ones, believing that they can achieve the accolades that he has accomplished in his clay shooting career.
SHOOT WITH MORE
Some shooters are sensitive to the punishing effects of recoil, so we’ve created a multi-fit hydraulic recoil pad for wood stocks that utilizes dampening technology borrowed from the aerospace industry that dramatically reduces recoil: 80% Less Recoil Energy, 35% Less Muzzle Lift, 25% Less Peak Force, 35% Less Rock Back to give youth shooters greater accuracy, less flinching and a better shooting experience. No measuring, no grinding, no hassle.
FalconStrike mounts quickly and easily to your small shotgun or hunting rifle wooden or synthetic buttstock with only two screws.
