WELCOME

This issue is arguably our most anticipated issue of the year, as we feature our Top 20 honours across the many disciplines in our great sport over the past 12 months. There are too many superb shooters to call them all out, but I’m always really impressed when a shooter takes the top spot in more than one discipline, like James Attwood in ESP & CSP and Richard King in SSP and All Round. Congratulations to everyone listed from all at the CPSA.

As always, there’s lots to look forward to in the coming year, starting with the British Shooting Show at the NEC Birmingham on the 13-15 February, so do come and see us on our stand. We’ve also got our annual CPSA Awards on the 21 March at St George’s Park, to celebrate all those who have excelled during 2025. Once again, we’ve had a record number of nominations and voting is open till anuary for our shortlisted finalists ia our we site.

We’ve got an action-packed season of championships to look forward to this year with entries opening for the first atch of e ents on the e ruary so please keep an eye on our website and social media for further updates.

CPSA STATEMENT ON HOME OFFICE PROPOSALS FOR THE CONVERGENCE OF SECTIONS 1 & 2 LICENSING

The CPSA is aware of proposals and planned public consultation for changes to shotgun licensing y the ome Office. e are engaged with both the government and working with our fellow shooting associations, the gun trade, and the BSSC to oppose proposals to merge Section firearm and Section shotgun licensing.

A merger of the two systems is unnecessary, disproportionate, and would place significant strain on an already overstretched licensing infrastructure. hile the S supports proportionate regulation, we believe such a change would damage the sport of clay shooting without delivering any

meaningful pu lic safety enefit. urrent evidence does not support a combined licensing regime in terms of risk, data, or operational feasi ility.

e will continue to urge the government to retain the separate licensing structures, and instead focus on improvements that genuinely enhance public safety, such as better resourcing of licensing teams and consistent application of guidance across all police forces.

The S will eep mem ers updated as more information becomes available and as the consultation process progresses.

Please contact CPSA HQ at info cpsa.co.u with any uestions.

THE MUSKETEERS FAST TRAP GROUP

Following on from the previous article in Pull! about the ABT layout refurbishment at Dartford Clay Shooting Club, The Musketeers Fast Trap Group (MFT Group) recently had one of their visits to Nuthampstead Shooting Ground to see how that ground’s refurbishment is going. The visit to Nuthampstead SG was on a quieter practice day on

1 November 2025 and the ground’s overall refurbishment programme appeared to be near completion.

The newly re-built layout buildings are equipped with card reader machines and cards can be topped up, or purchased at the office in the clu house. s is customary the ranges all have acoustic release microphones meaning that for practice, a single person or full squad can use the layouts, without the need for staff to be on hand. The Promatic Trap machines are very reliable, but in the event of a ‘No Target’, a simple press of a button on the range controller sets up the target ready to be called again.

The newly refurbished clubhouse is bright, clean and comfortable with all new tables & chairs and is a great place to meet friends old and new. The cafe serves up hot & cold food from a comprehensive menu. The

Nuthampstead Breakfast is highly recommended by this writer; so much so that it’s worth a trip to Nuthampstead for the breakfast alone!

The MFT Group would like to thank Nuthampstead SG proprietors Ed and Nicky Barker, for making us so welcome. Thanks also to Karen for that gorgeous Nuthampstead Breakfast.

Pictures show some of the Musketeers Fast Trap Group preparing to shoot OT on ‘D’ layout. Also getting to grips with their Nuthampstead Breakfast in the clubhouse. John Haas.

A LETTER FROM SARAH LOVE

Hi – my name is Sarah Love and I shoot competitive English Skeet for Wales and Cheshire Ladies.

I am registered disabled but shoot abled bodied. I live with a rare form of Blood Cancer; I have treatments every 8 weeks at Christies Cancer Hospital in Manchester. Sometimes these fall right in the middle of selection shoots or a busy competition season or when you are in the middle of training, which is annoying as the treatments do affect my energy levels and give me cluster aura migraines where I can be out of action for weeks, but I never give in to them and find that my shooting is the est therapy out there when coping with a chronic disorder like this. You switch off, focus on that clay and the buzz of a 25 straight keeps you going when your health is not so good.

This year I shot at Home Internationals at Route Gun Club in Northern Ireland and won National Skeet HCIT Ladies HGales and shot my first straight at a ome nternationals was u ing ying home! This was a huge achievement for me, as I can be halfway through shooting a 100 skeet and not be well, the added travelling and staying away solo is also an added stress when you live with a rare disease ut it will ne er stop me fighting back and continuing my skeet journey. You can shoot with or without a disability. Skeet is a dying discipline in Wales and Cheshire especially with Ladies and juniors, fewer and fewer are getting involved and coming to the competitions and fewer grounds in Wales are holding registered competitions. We need to be encouraging new people to the sport.

This winter Fauxdegla International Shooting Ground with the help of the Cheshire Skeet Team are holding 7 x 50 bird ESK registered competitions between the 8th November and the 28th February. So, there is no excuse at not giving Competitive skeet a go we look forward to welcoming you to the fold!

ANDY CAIRNS MEMORIAL CLAY SHOOT 2025

A big Thank You to everyone who turned up on Saturday 8th November for the charity shoot at Grange Farm Shooting Ground in memory of Andy Cairns who sadly passed away in December 2024.

Andy will be remembered by many as a keen countryman and one of the unsung heroes of the clay pigeon shooting World. Upon retirement Andy decided to give back to the sport be loved by qualifying as both a CPSA and a FITASC referee. He refereed mainly at local club events in the Midlands area and, occasionally, at major competitions with the British Open 2023 being the most recent. His sense of fairness and dry humour sometimes found him telling-off competitors (be they C class and new to the sport or AAA champions) if they didn’t know or adhere to the rule book. This was however always done with a sly smile and a “twinkle in his eye” which no-one could argue with but, if they did challenge him, they soon found out that he had a near encyclopedic knowledge of the CPSA handbook.

Macmillan Cancer Support.

None of this would have been possible without the support of Andy’s friends, colleagues and the companies who generously ga e their time financial support and donations leading to a successful and memorable day.

Particular thanks must go to Adam Curtis (Grange Farm Shooting Ground) who donated a large percentage of the entrance fee (plus a number of prizes) and to Doug King for his fundraising activities in organizing a separate raf e in addition to the main prize draws) and for all the prizes and donations he raised. The money generated from this raf e this was added to the event’s

On behalf of Help for Heroes and Macmillan Cancer Support thank you. Many cultures believe that a person only really dies when they fade from people’s memory and their name is no longer spoken so THANK YOU ALL from Andy’s Family and friends for helping keep Andy’s memory alive.

Adam Curtis and his team at Grange Farm put together a challenging but fun layout for the 60-clay memorial shoot, while at the same time, hosting the Leicestershire county Sportstrap championship, well done Adam.

Competitors at the memorial shoot took advantage of the opportunity to shoot different clay disciplines on the same course, while at the same time supporting two worthy charities.

The high-gun cash prize of £150, along with the trophy, was won by Pat Dickman with a very respectable score of 58/60 and the sponsored prize of 250 cartridges for the winner of the Colts / Junior class was won by Euan Pope with a score of 48/60. In order to encourage shooters of all skill levels to attend the shoot every competitor (irrelevant of their score) was entered into a prize draw for various vouchers, cartridges, cash and shooting related goods. Most importantly, everyone had an enjoyable day and a total of £2393.76 was raised for the charities Help for Heroes and

NATIONAL INTER-COUNTIES SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIP

Report from Dr John Martin, CPSA Chairman.

The 11th and 12th of October, apart for being the 583rd anniversary of Columbus sighting the Americas, was also the date of this year‘s National Inter-counties Sporting Championships at Sporting Targets in Bedford.

200 Shooters took to the ranges over the two days with 11 Senior, 4 Junior, 8 Ladies and 6 Veterans teams all turning out to represent their Counties. The threatened rain never appeared but the temperature and chill factor made standing around for too long less than appealing.

Adding to his Juniors British Open Sportrap title, earlier in the year, Suffolk shooter, Will Page went one better and took both the Junior and overall High Gun on a score of 92 with, runner up Mark Goddard shooting 90.

Ladies, High Gun went to Cheryl Hall on a score of 82 with Cambridge shooter, Mark Bowes managing a score of 90 to take the Veterans High Gun. Colts High Gun went to Aaron Christie on a score of 72.

Ricky Draper, Michael Smith, William Baughan, Michael Hebert and Luke Mortimer put in a combined score of 422 to take the team trophy for Buckinghamshire with Bedford taking second place on a score of 412.

Moyà Cherwayka, Pana Brenner and Jenna Peaty, took the ladies team title on the score of 139 with Bedford’s ladies mirroring the counties senior team by coming second overall on a score of 131.

Following their senior teams, success, Buckinghamshire’s Veterans were awarded the Vets trophy on a combined score of 157 with Oxfordshire taking second place on the score of 154.

Thomas Rockall and Neil Foxley secured the junior trophy for Cheshire on a combined score of 138 with Buckinghamshire taking second place on a score of 133.

Many thanks to the team at Sporting Targets for, as always, challenging but enjoyable targets resulting in a successful and memorable championship.

NATIONAL INTER-COUNTIES ABT

The 19 October witnessed the National Inter-Counties ABT, hosted by Brook Bank Shooting Ground. There’s no way of making good of this. The weather was atrocious. It was dull and dark and cold and rained all day. Occasionally there was a short break in the weather which lasted a matter of minutes and which, I suspect, was thrown in by a greater Deity to take us off guard and compound our misery. Still, everyone present shot through and put up with it to make the best of the day. 78 Shooters braved the weather and most of them hung around untill the end for the prize giving, which sadly, is increasingly uncommon these days.

The competition was run under standard rules which required part of the finishing s uad to stay ac and referee the next one. As is normal, this doesn’t really allow for spotting any advanced leaders until nearly all the

shooter Steve Tarrant on a score of 94, with Andrew Hill from Devon coming a close second on 93, and Benjamin Hibbett from Cornwall coming third on 92.

Devon shooter Katie Jammison shot a commendable 85 to take the Ladies High Gun, Joanne Knapman came second with a score of 80, and Janine Travers taking third place having shot 77. Junior High Gun went to Gloucestershire shooter Troy Thornell, who was unclassified on the day and sadly was also the only Junior entry.

Making up for coming second Overall in the championship, Andrew Hill was Veteran High Gun with a score of 93, with British Shootings Talent Pathway oordinator hristian Schofield coming equal second alongside Andy Weech and Paul Atkinson all on 91.

The winning Senior team for 2025 was awarded to Devon on a score of 448, with Runners-up Staffordshire coming a close second on 444. The winning Ladies team went to Gloucestershire and again sadly, no other team categories were contested.

Many thanks to Wesley and Alison for hosting an exceptionally successful shoot, despite the atrocious weather.

should have a good entry as a lot of Australians should be competing as they take UT quite seriously.

“It is really good to see an increased number of our shooters from a wider range of categories in the top 20 of the Gamebore World Rankings.

or my first year as T Rep, it’s been tough at times but also good a year, but I hope worth it!”

Chris Potter – Helice:

“We are working to attract more Juniors to UT and develop them with coaching from some of the more senior shooters. We are also working on closing the gap between UT and OT, seeing UT is a good stepping stone to OT; UT is the only international shooting discipline which is similar to an Olympic discipline (OT) which can be used as a useful tool to progress to OT.

“The calendar is a bit upside down for 2026 as the World Championships (WCH) are in Australia in February and so the team selection is already in place. The only teams going are the Ladies, Seniors and Masters, it

“Yet again we had a very successful year abroad showing the rest of the World we are a force to be reckoned with despite having limited facilities! In addition to adding a massive seven additional top 20 shooters in the Gamebore World Rankings.

“Special applaud goes to Dionne Rogers shooting her new Beretta SL2 – she won Gold in the first orld up of the year in Portugal, English, British, British Doubles, European, Individual Bronze in the World Championship and Team World Champion with Jo Watson- Hopkinson and Faye Wills .

“Also, very proud of Charlie Faulds, Paul Colley, Michael Meggison also European Champions in their class and Team World Champions Chris Potter, Howard Batt and Jack Sparrowhawk... Actually, very proud of all who take part,

the Helice group of shooters who travel abroad are an amazing group of people who I am proud to look out for!

“We are looking forward to a busy 2026 with International events in Cairo, Texas, Le Touquet, Bologna and Portugal.”

Nick Adams – Compak On re ection from this year Compak has increased the number of Gamebore World Ranking shooters in the top 20 by three this year.

“The GB teams and individual shooters achieved huge success at the European Championships (ECH), in addition, the WCH in France produced even more success, the largest GB medal haul ever for Compak, something to be really proud of.

“Going forward, the discipline continues to grow

across the country with the number of competitors and shooting grounds investing in Compak ranges, which makes it very exciting for the shooter competing in the ECH (France) and the WCH (Italy) this year.

“Our current junior shooters have had impressive success in 2025 at international level, and the number of junior shooters has increased significantly o er the last two years, which is very encouraging for our sport.

“We have been putting in a considerable energy in developing sponsorship within Compak, as demonstrated by the sponsorship of EJ Churchill’s who sponsored the GB team in France for 2025 WCH.

“We are planning a new championship for 2026 which I think is very exciting for Compak in Great Britian, details to be published at a future date.”

along the way, but each one pushed me to improve and stay focused on my goals. Overall, this year has been one of my best in terms of both results and consistency, and it’s a great feeling to look at what I’ve achieved and

know that my hard work has paid off. There were several high points throughout the year, and not just in terms of my own results. I also had the pleasure of seeing Phil Gray win both the English and British Open, which was a real highlight.

As for my own season, winning the Essex Masters, the World Sportrap, and finishing runner up at the British Open were all achievements I’m proud of. But the two standout moments were undoubtedly winning both European Championships – in Compak and FITASC Sporting. Taking both titles in the same year is something I never imagined would be possible when the year began and achieving it has been incredibly rewarding.

My goals for 2026 are always very similar each year: to be competitive in any competition, to work hard, and to hopefully win a major in any discipline, especially

with the level of competition being so high around the world. But now, there’s one title I’ve set as on of my main goals – the World FITASC –which would complete the full set for me.

My top tips are stay focused and dedicated. I’m not someone who spends a lot of time practising, I mainly shoot competitions, but everyone is different, and you ha e to find what works best for you. If you put in the hard work, you’ll see the results. But above all, make sure you have fun and enjoy it!

Id like to thank my best friend Phil Gray, who pushes me every step of the way, and all my close friends who support me. I also owe a huge thank you to my parents, as much of this wouldn’t have been possible without them. nd finally I’m grateful to my sponsors – GMK, Beretta, Baschieri & Pellagri, Cens Digital, and Starkey Outdoors, for their continued support throughout the year.

As a mother of two, simply attending competitions feels like an achievement in itself, so I had no expectations after giving birth to my second child in December ‘24.

My high point of 2025 was qualifying for the England Ladies DTL team for the Home International in Scotland. The first England Selection took place when my son was only 3 months old and I was so pleased to attend the event with him. I was incredibly proud to achieve England Lady High Gun at the Home International. My goals for 2026 are to qualify for

My top tip, make sure you enjoy shooting and not take it too seriously. lso find a gun and cartridge combination you like and stick with it. I’ve used a Miroku MK38 and Hull DTL 300s for a long time.

Without my family’s support I would not be able to shoot. Thank you to my partner Nev and my Mum, who share the babysitting duties. And to my Dad, who as a keen DTL shooter himself, has always been the best support I could ask for.

Throughout my domestic competitions, I was incredibly proud to have won my second English Open title at the National Clay Shooting Centre (NCSC) in June. Oli Jones and the NCSC team made sure the competition ran as efficiently as possible so they deserve a considerable amount of credit.

I plan to keep working as hard as I can to win domestic titles and championships but I also intend to better my previous performances on the

Do not let fear of the unknown stop you from taking risks and opportunities which may help you improve in your sport. This has been something I have struggled with in the past but I have learned that we sometimes have to endure temporary discomfort for long term pleasure.

Despite being an individual sport, success in shooting is very much a team effort. My family have always been an enormous powerhouse behind my shooting along with my support team; Des Davies, Richard Brickell, Paul Tudge, Martin Blandford & Oli Dixon.

My highlight in ABT of 2025 was breaking my own record of shooting 226 straight to 254 straight in consecutive registered ABT competitions across 3 different shooting grounds.

My goal for 2026 is to win the English ABT again, this is one of my favourite competitions in the calendar as this is the first major title I ever won, winning this 5 times so far the first time was in way back in 1994.

My top tips are to shoot one target at a time, stick to your routine and don’t focus too much on the final score. If you miss, forget about it, reset, start again, trust yourself, your training and your routine. Shoot all disciplines as this helps to develop and improve your shooting.

Gun: He has been shooting a Kemen KM4 since 1998. Ammo: B&P F2 Flash Olympic Addition I have a great support network, who without I could not do as well as I do. I’d especially like to thank my wife, Nikki, who is my biggest supporter whom I dragged around all over the country to many competitions over the years. Also thanks to Lewis, my son who I’ve trained, who now competes against me, sadly sometimes beats me and is pushing me to be the best competitive shooter I can be.

DRIVEN TO SUCCEED

Striving to be the best in any arena takes perseverance and resilience and Leah Southall is no exception, as Anita North discovers.

Leah Southall is a shining example of a sports person with a high level of resilience. Dudley-born Leah is a personal trainer and works as an instructor at a gym. At just 22 she is also a seasoned competitor in clay shooting who is dedicated and works hard to be her best.

From her initial successes in DTL to more recent stellar performances in OT competing for GB and England it has been quite a journey already. This year there have been podium moments, new personal bests and she is making progress in the senior category with outings for GB at World Cups. However, Leah has faced many challenges along the road. Most notably the loss of her mother and aunt, as well as transitioning from junior to senior, and from education to work.

RISING

THROUGH THE RANKS

Leah’s journey in shooting started when she accompanied her father on his clay shooting outings. She finally persuaded him to let her have a go and in 2016 she started shooting Sporting at Park Farm near Worcester, but was persuaded by some of the regulars to try DTL. Soon she was collecting medals and in 2018 14-yearold Leah earned her first England cap.

In 2020 she had a landmark performance coming third overall at the English Open at Bywell. However, success at DTL was not enough for Leah. She competed in ABT, then UT and ultimately OT. Along the way she earned England and GB caps. Her first GB cap in OT was at the Nordic Championships in Finland in 2022. And in late 2022 she focused on OT. World and European Championships junior team places came in 2023 and 2024.

Last year Leah gained her first GB senior cap competing at a World Cup in Cairo. Hard work was rewarded with a place this year in the Olympic Potentials group in British Shooting’s World Class programme. At the OT Home International in August Leah put in a phenomenal performance to finish in equal fourth on 141 out of 150 – just two clays behind High Gun.

In 2018, 14-year-old Leah earned her first England cap.

It is wonderful to see a shooter with such drive and work ethic, giving their all. I am sure there are great things ahead. I asked Leah a few questions about her shooting career so far:

Q. BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON SHOOTING CAREER?

My parents and my extended family.

Q. BIGGEST CHALLENGE AND BIGGEST LESSON

Coming back from a bad result. Competing in OT one week you think you’ve cracked it and then next week it’s like you’ve forgotten how to shoot. You have to constantly keep working to be fully competition ready.

The biggest lesson is being able to cope with emotions. I have learned to use them and turn them into a positive. I now like nerves – they are your friend.

Favourite memory... Winning bronze in the Mixed Team duo event with Tom Betts at last year’s European Championships.

Q. WHAT TRAINING DO YOU DO?

I work to a training plan. I shoot an average two to three times per week mostly at Park Farm, but also Fauxdegla, Nuthampstead Griffin Lloyd and now Eaton Hall.

run and do gym wor fi e times per week. Running is for cardiovascular fitness and gym wor is for upper ody and core strength. You need strength and stamina for shooting. Cardiovascular fitness helps eep you fresh when you are doing lots of travelling. Going to the gym also helps me relax.

I work with a sports psychologist to keep my mental game where it needs to be to deal with competition pressures.

Q

. HAVE YOU WORKED WITH COACHES?

In my journey I have worked with Lee Kirby, Phil Morgan, Rod Gould, att oward olley and Steve Scott.

I now work with Andrea Miotto, British Shooting Lead Trap Coach while Sarah Wixey is my personal coach. My success would not have been possible without the coaches and I thank them all.

Q. FAVOURITE MEMORY?

Winning bronze in the Mixed Team duo event with Tom Betts at last year’s European Championships.

Q

. FAVOURITE SHOOTING GROUND?

At home it has to be Park Farm. It’s where I started and where I train. Abroad it’s between Lonato in Italy and Lusail in Qatar.

Q

. I COULDN’T DO THIS SPORT WITHOUT…

the end of a phone when I need her. She is the first to message me when finish competing.

Q

. WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING IN A TRAINING GROUP?

I now love to train in a group. We push each other along. We are all part of something, wearing the same colours. It helps you be prepared for international competition.

I would encourage any CPSA members who haven’t tried OT to just give it a go and see where it takes them.

Q

. WHAT DOES RESILIENCE MEAN TO YOU?

I am constantly working towards my goal of being an Olympian. It takes a lot of hard work to succeed in shooting. Often, people only see the surface, particularly on social media. But you need grit to put in the time and focused work on and off the range, even on days when you would rather not be there.

The support from everyone I’ve met along the way.

My kit –Castellani skeet vest, Beretta DT11, Eley Superb cartridges, CENS ear plugs, SWATCOM ear defenders and Delaro shooting glasses.

My AirPods and Kindle – they help me switch off between rounds.

My coach Sarah is always so supportive and I know she is on

My deep desire to succeed, to do my best, is based around making my mum and my aunt, who have both passed away, proud of me. I so want to do this for their memory.

Right: Great Britain’s Junior Trap Mixed Pairs team; Tom Betts and Leah Southall secured bronze at the 2024 European Championships.

11-12 Oct: National Inter-Counties or the first time in far too many years Merseyside put together a squad for the National Inter-Counties at Sporting Targets. Sporting

Manager Jay Smith had previously organised a series of selection shoots which combined in the following team: David Walker, Adam long, Ian Edwards, jay Smith, Robert Southwold, and

Stephen Gill.

The course at Sporting Targets proved to be a tricky layout with plenty of low diving targets and a pleather of rabbits to boot but was thoroughly enjoyable affair

with a few laugh out load moments. We never expected to take home any silverware but as a team we held our own placing seventh Overall which was far from last and just 17 clays behind Cheshire. We look forward to seeing you at next years selection shoots.

1 Nov: Merseyside County Sportrap

We had the pleasure of an exclusive Sportrap championship event at Catton Hall Shooting Ground Ltd. 11 of erseyside s finest too part o er two layouts, we did hope for a few more but a couple of the lads are still on tag. Luckily the weather was kind to us and the rain held off all day.

First man out Dave Walker, set the pace with a cracking 24/25 followed by Jay Smith and Kevin Clarke O’Neil also on 24 so all to play for on the second half. After a short break we went onto the ne t and final layout. Dave went on to shoot a 25-straight to take the championship, Jay Southwood took the Juniors, Andy Shannon took the Veterans.

Big gaps in the winter magazines make the summer a distant memory but there are a still a few reports needing updating for back in September. The Inter-County Sporting was held at Garlands on 28 September 2025. Thankfully the sun shone (remember the rain last year?!) and good targets put everyone through their paces. Thank you to Steve Lovatt and to all the Garlands team for hosting as well as their ever-friendly referees. Our senior team of Brandon Smith, Phil Smith, Nick Rees, Paul Harrison, Matt Pugh, and Charlie Drury took fourth place with a joint score of 421. Our Junior team of Connor Davies, Taylor Alderton, and Alexander Morris took third with 166 and our Ladies team of Aimee Addison, Karen Mackison, and Fiona Reed took second place with 144 – one point behind the winners of Shropshire on 145. Huge thanks to our Veterans too – Wes arris ndy Griffin and oy Spooner for representing the county, sadly not in the placings this time.

11 October saw our County Super Sporting Championships again hosted by Steve but this time at the beautiful otswold estfields enue. really enjoyable shoot. Massive congratulations go to Nick Rees for taking High Gun with an amazing 97. Nick takes both County and Veteran Champion, Connor Davies takes Colt Champion with 90, and Karen Mackison takes Lady Champion with 73. This was followed on two weeks later by the West Midlands Area Super Sporting hampionships again at estfields on 25 October. Another enjoyable day with thanks to the referees and another fun course. H&W members in the medals were Phil Smith taking Open Area bronze with 92, Karen Mackison takes Area Ladies Gold with 80, and Dee Ward takes joint Area Ladies Silver with 70. In the Veteran

Well done to Nick Portlock who won High Gun at Barbury on 26 November. David Webb came second in B Class in

In other news the committee would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nick Stokes for his many years of dedicated service on the H&W committee. His help has ensured the committee can continue to serve H&W members and the wider shooting community. From the role of our Treasurer to West Midland medal manager, he has helped keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, giving his time and energy for the enefit of our mem ers. took Juniors with 86, Steve Tarrant Seniors with 83 and Janine Travers Ladies with 74. A great day was had by all apparently - my New Year’s resolution is to have a go at all these disciplines that I have never tried so I know what they are when I’m writing about them!

Philip Cole, like many, is a product of Fareham’s tuition stands. Andy Gordge and Kevin Luff (both APSI instructors) give over 30 lessons twice a month. Each lesson includes one of 14 club guns on a dedicated one-acre area complete with 16 traps. Fareham have contributed a huge

number of new members to our great sport. They are now in their third year of this valuable platform for new shooters to learn to shoot safely and correctly. Once at C level they then move out onto the 100-target 14 course with an instructor which includes gun and carts. Andy does all the bookings for tuition and gift vouchers for the tuition stands so if you now someone who might find this useful do get in touch with him. And of course a big thank you to Fareham, together with Owls Lodge for hosting so many of our County Championships.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Steve Tarrant’s brilliant shooting at Brook Bank to take the National Inter-Counties ABT High Gun, thanks must also go to the rest of the team for a great effort getting to Broo Ban and finishing in challenging conditions. Well done Sean Gamblen and Stuart Cureton both on 89, Richard Travers on 87, Tim Rowe on 83 and Janine Travers on 77.

Well done Charlie Faulds taking Junior Sporting High Gun in the Generation Cup at Eaton Hall.

The SW FITASC Inter-Counties was held at Somerset SG and we fielded a good team but unfortunately lost our 15 year winning streak, narrowly missing out by only fi e targets. The team was made up of Trevor Bell, Des Sturgess, Phil Marks, Dan Bishop, Lee Knight, Neil Lockton, Nick Canter and Phil Buxton. Dan Bishop had another good day with 87 to be the highest scoring H&IOW shooter and Second Overall. Good scores also from Neil Lockton 85 and Des Sturgess 81. Thanks to everyone who made the trip on a miserable weekend.

Thanks to Charlie Faulds, Phil Barnes, Des Sturgess, Brian Coupe and Lauren Goodman for sharing their shooter profiles feed ac has een good so ll e looking for more victims, I mean people to join in the fun!

As author of these monthly diatribes, I am conscious we concentrate on the Sporting disciplines to the detriment of Trap and Skeet. This is not intentional. I simply do not hear from Wiltshire Trap and Skeet shooters. One of our new year resolutions is to cover a wider spread of shooting disciplines, so please do get in touch and let me know of your successes –at local, national and international levels. Also include any pictures you may have. I can be contacted on baron@baronphillipsassociates.com.

Regional winners – yes it's Somerset! No cider drinking was involved, sheer skill and team work by all. If only I could include some emojis on here, it would be clapping hands on repeat! Somerset won a total of 19 individual Regional Championships and nine Inter-County championships –each of these was followed by Devon. We're pretty much an 'all round' shooting county, not just by the shooting disciplines available in Somerset but also by the members of our committee who are experienced in

all the disciplines, and this has probably sustained us to gain this splendid position on the regional spreadsheet!

A merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. I hope by the time you get to read this you're all having a good time over the festive period and are looking forward to 2026 and what it brings. My apologies for the missing article in the last edition but I was away and missed the deadline, so I have tried to round up all the remaining shoots from the year that I may have overlooked or slipped past me.

SE Region Inter-Counties Helice

John Foy reports: The SE Region 2025 Helice IC Championship was held at the Invicta Gun Club on 29 September. The weather was grey and overcast with gentle breezes throughout the day. The atmosphere around the club was the normal warm welcome from Invicta. Competing teams included Greater London, Essex, Surrey, Oxfordshire, and Kent with friendly rivalry that the event brings. The Sussex team consisting of Heather Lynn, Jack Malthouse, Al Williams, Cliff Goodwin, Richard Cadey, John Taylor and John Foy. After a thrilling team shoot off Sussex beat Kent to retain the trophy.

SE Region Inter-Counties FITASC

Held at Southdown on 12 October saw Sussex hold onto their title as SE Region Inter-Counties champions. High Gun and Champion was Pete Goldsmith who managed to reverse the result of the county FITASC competition and beat his arch rival – and friend – Guy Franklin by one point. Sussex consisted of Pete Goldsmith, Guy Franklin, Kenny Bennett, Jeff Dix and Adrian Smith. Heather Lynn was the Ladies entry, unfortunately no Colt or Junior.

Jack Malthouse

It's always rewarding to report on new names in Sussex doing well. One such person is Junior shooter Jack Malthouse, who after shooting Sporting for a short while moved over to Helice, found he liked it, and also was very good at it! He's shot for GB in airo and ualified to shoot in the orld Championships in Italy in September. He managed third in a warm up competition, took Silver in the Italian Grand Prix beating two Americans, one of which was the World Champion and in the main competition came fourth. Well done Jack.

Other new names to appear on team sheets include colt Felix Greiveson, Richard Cadey, Heather Lynn, Mhairi-Ann Troup, and I'm sure there are more, so well done to them and every other person who has

OBITUARIES MARK LILLY

1963 – 2025

We are saddened to share the news of the death of Mark Lilly.

Mark, a well known and much liked trap shooter, loved and lived for his shooting. Mark represented his county (Hereford and Worcester) many times, and also his country, in both ABT and Olympic Trap. His favourite grounds were East Yorkshire and Nuthampstead, and, in later life, he could be found practising at his local Park Farm Shooting Ground Worcester.

Mark leaves a big gap in the trap shooting community.

Mark leaves a loving family and a big gap in the trap shooting community. A big thank you to all the staff at St Richards Hospice in Worcester. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
