Fa l l s C h u r c h Business News & Notes Virginia Ranked #1 for Business Climate Business Facilities magazine named Virginia first in the nation for its overall business climate. The national publication for corporate site selectors and economic development professionals said Virginia earned the honor because of the steps many economic development councils in the commonwealth, both local and statewide, are taking to make the state more attractive. It cited the Commonwealth’s workforce of 4.1 million people as well as successful workforce programs, pro-business work environment and educational system, making it a great place to do business.
DMV Iron Gym Coming to Falls Church DMV Iron Gym, a top-quality gym with local ownership, has signed a long-term lease for the 20,000 square feet space formerly occupied by Planet Fitness at Eden Center. The Eden Center location will be DMV Iron’s second location.
Kastle adds ‘Health Pass’ Access Option Falls Church-based Kastle Systems has added a health pass option for tenants and landlords at buildings that use its access control systems. Kastle partnered with CLEAR, the airport pre-screening service provider, for the building and office Health Pass for employees. The app links users’ verified identity to COVID-19 related health information, including vaccine verification and test results with building and office entrance systems to authorize or restrict access to buildings or office suites. Health Pass, also syncs with the Apple Health app. Landlords or office tenants determine their own requirements to be completed for entry, easing the administrative burden of enforcing health and safety policies. Health Pass, currently limited to verified employees, will eventually include applications for visitors and vendors.
Cosmic History Exploration Underway The James Webb Space Telescope, built by an industry team led by Falls Church-based Northrop Grumman, lifted off Christmas Day aboard an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Space Agency’s spaceport in French Guiana. The international partnership includes the Canadian Space Agency with NASA headquarters overseeing the mission. The telescope’s revolutionary technology will explore every phase of cosmic history from within our solar system and to the most distant observable galaxies in the early universe.
Northrop Grumman Lands $1.4B Army contract Northrop Grumman Corp. has been awarded a five-year contract for low-rate initial production and full-rate production of the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) by the U.S. Army. Developed in partnership, IBCS is at the center of the U.S. Army’s modernization strategy for air and missile defense capability. Northrop Grumman will produce and field IBCS and provide product engineering and logistics support for the U.S. and select allied forces through foreign military sales. The work is to be completed by 2026.
