French Chamber Singapore

Welcome

President’s Message As we are now effectively in the Year of Innovation France-Singapore, the French Chamber plays an active part in working with other members of the French ecosystem and with its Singaporean counterparts to ensure the success of the various initiatives undertaken in Singapore and in France this year. Amongst the many events, particular mention should be made of our Smart Health Symposium. We are also supporting by various means the nascent French Tech chapter in Singapore. Our Chamber continues to demonstrate a healthy growth, evidence of the continued attractiveness of Singapore for our French companies. Beside the many activities organised by its 18 business committees, and the very effective support provided to existing and new members by our Business Centre, we continuously aim at improving and broadening the services we offer to our members. One area of increased focus is to see the Chamber as a bridge between our members and other business communities. For instance, we initiated this year what we hope will become monthly encounters between members of the Chamber and large local corporations through their CEO. We started this year with Keppel Corporation and Pavilion Energy. We are also an active participant member to the Singapore Business Federation and the European Chamber of Commerce. This connection with the Singapore business community will continue to be a strong focus. We are also mindful of the various expectations of our members. Beside the large French groups present in Singapore and who have always acted as the backbone of the Chamber, we do support and provide value to the smaller companies who have established their regional presence in Singapore, and of course the increasing number of startups established in Singapore by French entrepreneurs. Our business committees are a great way for all to develop their network, and we organise regular events targeted for these specific segment. It is very important for us to remain agile. At a time where digitalisation disrupts the way we work, it is important that the Chamber constantly adapt itself to these new methods and address the changing demands of its members. We regularly look for new ideas and offerings, which could benefit our members. All this is the result of the very proactive Board that we currently have, which represents well the diversity of our business community in Singapore and debates regularly very challenging areas of development for our Chamber. It complements well the excellent work of our permanent staff in the Chamber, which contributes greatly to the very high reputation that our Chamber currently enjoys in Singapore.

Executive Director’s Message It is a pleasure to share with you the French Chamber Annual Report 2017/2018, as you will discover, a dynamic year of activity with many projects taking scale and many new initiatives taking off. Our membership base of over 700 companies is still growing, as Singapore as a business hub continues to thrive, with more and more French companies setting up their Asian headquarters here and basing their regional operations in the city-state. This past year has seen many exciting events organised by our 18 business committees across a wide range of themes and subjects, from finance to tech, healthcare and R&D, just to name a few. This year being the France-Singapore Year of Innovation, innovation has certainly been front and centre in our calendar of activities, with the Chamber actively partnering stakeholders in Singapore to provide plenty of opportunities for collaboration. Start-ups continue to be a distinctive focus for the Chamber as we keep adding new initiatives to our repertoire. It is a pleasure to see entrepreneurs taking advantage of our Mentoring Programme and Business Accelerator Lab, attending events, large-scale networking and targeted exchanges such as that of our CEO Tech Club, sharing news through our communication channels. We launched our first FrenchStart-Up Award and a new “Meet the CEO” series, initiatives designed specifically in response to needs evoked by entrepreneurs: seeking visibility and business-matching. We have also ramped up our communication towards France. The Chamber was present in various parts of France throughout the year, as part of its “Singapour Business Tour”, with the objective of inviting French companies to discover, understand and evaluate potential markets of various sectors in Singapore and the region, and to consider exporting or setting up here. We also organised learning expeditions here in Singapore on pertinent themes, a notable example being digitalisation and internationalisation organised for business leaders from Bpifrance Université / Accélérateur ETI. As we strive to bring more value to our members, it is heartening to see the business community coming together and supporting each other, showing that, collectively, we can do better and break boundaries! Our very first CSR Day is an excellent example: our business community came together at 6am in the morning for a big beach clean-up to make a local difference to the marine and coastal environment. What a great collective force! Many projects lie ahead and I am grateful to see the business community grow stronger each year, and on behalf of all the team, I warmly thank our members for their active involvement and fantastic support! Carine Lespayandel Executive Director The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore

Valerie Servant Managing Director, EOAsia The French Chamber’s HR team has given us a direct, proactive, and personalised approach to our recruitment process. The team really took the time to have a better understanding of our needs. They were detailoriented and organised. With an extensive network, the Chamber’s HR Team managed to provide quality candidates with multicultural backgrounds, which is exactly what we require in this melting pot of a country.

I have been working with the HR department of the French Chamber for more than four years now and I am always keen to recommend their services! On top of being friendly, the team is helpful and committed, always trying to find the right candidate. I would also highlight the great follow-up.

Our Asia Network A Powerful Network to Support your Growth in Asia

Every year, all the French Chambers of Commerce in Asia gather for their annual meeting. Growth and dynamism can define this powerful network, which has become one of the most influential in the region. This year’s meeting was held in Manilla, the Philippines, and focused on business support services. Several action plans were discussed to enhance coordination between the Chambers in Asia.

Singapore and Beyond

Thanks to its strategic location in Asia, the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore plays a key role in accompanying French companies in Singapore and beyond. The French Chamber aims to enhance its collaborations with the French Chambers of the region and many initiatives recently launched illustrate this trend. The French Chamber Business Support regularly coordinates regional missions by tapping into this dynamic network. French companies then have the possibility to extend their business mission beyond Singapore to explore additional business opportunities. We welcome representatives and experts from Southeast Asia on a regular basis to share the business practices and, hence, help our members expand their business in this fast-growing region. Last but not least, we organise several business missions for our members in neighbouring markets, such as Malaysia and Myanmar.
