IN LIGHT We Trust Words: Jon Butters Photography: Jon Butters and Jeff Chan

Prologue

During the winter, climbers in Hong Kong often climb and camp in the islands off the South China Sea I have been rock climbing for almost coast. were surprised to see it still glowing. A few scuffs were all it had to show for its ordeal and it has continued to join me on trips ever since. Over the Chinese New Year, I went for a bicycle expedition with friends around the Karst landscape of Yangzhou. We had to ride out far from the towns in order to access the limestone cliffs and caves that litter the area. The exploration off the beaten path required us to navigate tricky scrambles and dense undergrowth. With our lanterns strapped to our bags and GripLite in hand, we could easily make it through unscathed. The Panel Safety Light also quickly became an essential part of our equipment. Late finishes led to dark return trips through rough country paths and quiet villages. Yet we have never lost sight of each other even when far apart and avoided many potential trouble with the local motorists.

Place: Lion Rock, Hong Kong As the summer came closer, we started venturing out at night to climb in the cooler temperature. The X-Glow headlights proved to be ideal in these situations, thanks to their lightweight build, strong beams and long battery life. Being easy to use and very comfortable to wear, they were one thing that we wouldn’t need to worry about. Much of the climbing in Hong Kong is on small holds that require good accuracy. We were always able to maintain such accuracy to reach the top, well after the sun had set. Many of our climbs were completed in this style with millions of glowing lights from the city as our backdrop.

I have been a satisfied user of Favour Light’s products on every occasion so far. Not only do they perform well but they are also built to a very high quality. Favour Light has impressed me with their attention to detail, search for innovation and manufacturing capacity, I look forward to their upcoming products in the near future.
