ounder and CEO of Vision in Numbers Inc., Sharisse Guyton, is on a mission to revolutionize the way small businesses manage their finances and achieve long-term success. With a client-centric approach, Vision in Numbers provides professional bookkeeping and business consulting services tailored to the specific needs of each client. Guyton’s inspiration behind starting the company stemmed from the alarming rate at which small businesses were closing, primarily due to owners lacking a comprehensive understanding of their financial health. “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I founded Vision in Numbers Inc. to ensure their success,” says Guyton. “I witnessed far too many businesses closing due to a lack of financial understanding.

My goal is to provide direct and ongoing support in bookkeeping and financial management to empower small business owners.” Before the COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the high closure rates, small business success rates were already a cause for concern. Recognizing the need for ongoing support in bookkeeping and financial management, Guyton established Vision in Numbers Inc. to bridge this crucial gap. The company’s goal is to provide small business owners with the necessary tools and expertise to thrive and succeed in today’s competitive landscape. “At Vision in Numbers Inc., our core value is client-centricity,” emphasizes Guyton. “We go above and beyond to understand our clients’ needs and tailor our services to their specific requirements. lle Cleaning is more than just a cleaning service; it’s a testament to the power of dedication, passion, and a shared vision. Founded by two dynamic women, Murielle Masse and Nathanielle Bernard, their emerging cleaning service is making waves with its unique approach that goes beyond the surface. We had the privilege to sit down with the founders and get a glimpse into their journey, their values, and their unwavering dedication to transforming spaces and lives. “Anyone can clean a space. With Elle Cleaning, we make sure our customers are satisfied,” Masse explains. The services offered by Elle Cleaning range from residential and commercial cleaning to move-in, move-out, and deep cleaning. Every client is unique, and Elle Cleaning’s approach is tailored to align with individual expectations and preferences.

As trends in the cleaning industry continue to evolve, Elle Cleaning remains at the forefront by integrating the latest techniques and products. “We use almost all the products the industry has to offer. But right now, we are working on making our own products for our clients’ safety and ours,” Masse reveals. The journey of Elle Cleaning began as a shared aspiration between the Masse and Bernard. “We are mothers of 7 kids between us,” Masse states. “We had jobs that helped our family stay afloat, but for me, it wasn’t enough. I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur.” The inception of the idea coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which emphasized the importance of cleanliness. Drawing on their experiences as homemakers, Masse and Bernard saw an opportunity to channel their expertise into a venture they were passionate about.

Reflecting on their journey, Masses shares, “Our short-term goals right now are to launch our website and start to get some grants and loans to start getting some employees. Our long-term goals are to expand and become one of the successful cleaning businesses in Ontario.” In a world where maintaining a clean and organized space can seem overwhelming, Elle Cleaning offers practical advice: “Clear your mind first. Target one chore at a time. Have a checklist! Do not leave the room if you haven’t touched everything in it. Make sure you set a timer and take your time. Enjoy cleaning your home!”

As a teenager, it can be easy to get lost in the chaos of school, friends, and hormones. However, it’s essential to take the time to find yourself and figure out who you are during these formative years. Finding yourself means discovering your passions, values, and beliefs. It means figuring out what makes you happy and what you want to do with your life. This process can be confusing and overwhelming, but it’s worth it in the end. When you know who you are, you’re more likely to make decisions that align with your values and bring you happiness. You’ll also be able to communicate your needs and boundaries effectively, which is crucial for healthy relationships. Knowing yourself helps you navigate the world with confidence. It’s easier to stand up for yourself when you know what you stand for. It’s easier to say no to peer pressure when you know your limits and it’s easier to pursue your dreams when you know what you want. As we age, it’s easy to get caught up in the routines and responsibilities of everyday life. We may feel like we’ve lost touch with who we are and what we want out of life. However, it’s never too late to start the journey of finding yourself.

Perhaps your career has taken a path that doesn’t align with your passions and values. Or maybe you’ve been so focused on raising a family that you’ve forgotten what makes you happy outside of your role as a parent. Whatever the reason, it’s important to take the time to reflect on your life and figure out who you are. The process of finding yourself later in life may be different than it is for teenagers. You may have more responsibilities and less free time, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Start by taking small steps to explore your interests and hobbies. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try painting or learn a new language. Take a class or join a group that focuses on your interests. It’s also important to reflect on your past experiences and learn from them. What have been your biggest successes and failures? What have you learned from them? Use these experiences to guide you in the direction of what you truly want out of life. As you begin to discover who you are, it may be challenging to communicate your needs and boundaries to others. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to say no and set boundaries that align with your values. You may also find that some relationships in your life no longer serve you and that it’s time to let them go.

FROM VULNERABILTY TO EMPOWEMENT WITH MARISSA NIKITIUK

L

iving with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can be an isolating and challenging experience. However, for Marissa Nikitiuk, she has used her journey with MS as a way to empower and inspire others to share their story.

Marissa’s journey with MS began with a whirlwind of emotions. “It was definitely hard in the beginning to process my diagnosis,” she recalls. “I spent a lot of time crying and just trying to get through day by day.” The tingling and numbness that prompted her diagnosis left her feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed. But Marissa refused to let despair consume her. Instead, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and explored various strategies to manage her symptoms. “I took a holistic approach when I got diagnosed,” Marissa shares. “I talked to a Naturopathic doctor, other people with MS, and met with Jack Kungel.” Through this holistic path, she not only found physical healing but also realized the significance of nurturing her mindset and managing stress to maintain overall well-being.

Thanks to her support system, Marissa’s shares that they are pivotal in helping her stay strong through her journey. “My parents, sister, and extended family got me through day by day after diagnosis,” she acknowledges. “They checked in on me, made sure I ate, and didn’t spend a lot of time alone.” Her journey has helped her come to a profound realization: the power of sharing and the importance of creating a safe space for others is important. Through her volunteer work as a Peer Support for the MS Society of Canada, she extends a compassionate hand to those in need. “When I was diagnosed, I reached out to the MS Society and had my own Peer Mentor talk me through being newly diagnosed,” Marissa recounts. “To be able to return that is a full-circle moment. I love posting Tik Tok’s about MS, and I don’t shy away from talking about my disease to people,” she reveals. Describing herself as emotional, resilient and bubbly, Marissa shares that what empowers her daily is… “Being confident in myself and the reminder that I ride a motorcycle. Makes me feel like a complete badass to be living with this chronic illness but learning to ride has been a dream of mine since I was a kid,” she explains. “My dad has been riding all his life and he should have never put me on the back of a bike.”

Female friendships are a powerful force that can shape a woman’s life in countless ways. Whether it’s sharing laughs over a cup of coffee, offering support through tough times, or celebrating each other’s successes, the bonds between women can be incredibly strong and fulfilling. In this blog, we’ll explore the power of female friendships and why they are so important. First and foremost, female friendships provide a sense of belonging and community. Women are social creatures, and we thrive when we have meaningful connections with others. Friendships with other women can provide a safe space where we can be ourselves, share our thoughts and feelings, and feel understood and accepted. This kind of connection is especially important for women who may not have strong family support or who feel isolated in other areas of their lives. In addition to providing a sense of community, female friendships can also offer valuable emotional support. When we’re going through a difficult time, it can be incredibly comforting to know that we have someone to turn to who will listen without judgment and offer a shoulder to cry on.

Research has shown that women who have strong social support networks are better able to cope with stress and are at lower risk for depression and anxiety. Female friendships can also be a powerful source of motivation and inspiration. When we see our friends achieving their goals and pursuing their passions, it can inspire us to do the same. Having friends who are supportive and encouraging can give us the confidence we need to take risks and pursue our dreams. Another important aspect of female friendships is that they can help us develop a stronger sense of self. When we have friends who accept and appreciate us for who we are, we can begin to see ourselves in a more positive light. This can help us build confidence and self-esteem, which can have a positive impact on all areas of our lives. Finally, female friendships can be incredibly fun and enjoyable! Whether we’re going out for a night on the town or just spending a quiet evening at home, spending time with our girlfriends can be a source of joy and laughter. Having friends who share our interests and hobbies can also provide opportunities to try new things and expand our horizons.

n the heart of Windsor, Ontario, a culinary gem awaits those with an adventurous palate and a craving for authentic Ghanaian flavors. Chef Zule Ankamah, the creative force behind Zuleeats, brings the vibrant and diverse cuisine of Ghana to the Windsor-Essex community. “Born in Ghana, my roots are deeply embedded in the rich tapestry of West African culture,” shares Chef Zule Ankamah, who has called Windsor home for over 25 years. “My journey from Ghana to Windsor has been a flavourful adventure, and I’m thrilled to share the tastes of my homeland with this community.”

Her passion for connecting with others through the art of food and hospitality has become a cornerstone of the Windsor culinary scene. “Food is a universal language that brings people together,” Zule reflects. “It’s not just about the flavors; it’s about creating an experience that lingers in the hearts of those who enjoy it.” From a young age, Zule Ankamah has harbored a love for cooking and hosting, and the global challenges brought on by the pandemic provided the perfect opportunity for her to focus on her true passion. “The pandemic allowed me to pause, reflect, and pour my energy into what I love most – creating delicious moments through food,” she shares with a smile. “It’s been a journey of rediscovery and a chance to turn my passion into a full-time venture.”

Zule Ankamah’s commitment to excellence is evident in every pie she crafts, each one a labor of love that is fueled by the smiles of those who savor her creations. “Each pie is a piece of my heritage,” Zule emphasizes. “I strive for excellence because I want people to taste the authenticity and love that goes into every bite.” As a proud mother, active volunteer, Rotarian, member of the South Western Ontario Black Entrepreneurship Network (SWOBEN) and member of her church community, Zule Ankamah wears many hats. “Balancing these roles has taught me the importance of community, generosity, and gratitude,” she reflects. “Food is a way for me to give back and share the richness of life.” Zuleeats officially launched in the Fall of 2020, introducing Windsor-Essex to the rich and aromatic flavors of Ghana. “Launching Zuleeats was a dream come true,” Zule exclaims. “It’s more than a business; it’s an extension of my identity and a way to bridge cultures through the joy of food.” At the heart of Zuleeats’ menu are traditional Ghanaian savory meat pies, a true delight for the senses. “These pies are a tribute to the comforting flavors of my childhood,” Zule reveals. D

evon Kendrick, the driving force behind Beard Sauce Co, stands as a trailblazer and visionary in the realm of grooming, with over three transformative years at the helm. His journey into entrepreneurship began during a pivotal chapter in Paraguay from 2011 to 2012. “Living in Paraguay was a game-changer for me,” reflects Kendrick. “As an English teacher, I not only immersed myself in a new culture but also learned the art of beard care from a local Paraguayan barber. That experience sowed the seeds for what would become Beard Sauce Co.” Returning to Canada in 2012, Kendrick found himself at the intersection of personal discovery and professional exploration. A chance compliment on his distinctive beard in 2013 set the stage for something extraordinary.

“That compliment sparked a curiosity in me,” says Kendrick. “I delved into creating beard oils, and as friends and family experienced the quality, the idea of Beard Sauce Co was born in 2020.” For Kendrick, the beard care industry transcends mere commerce—it’s a deeply personal journey. “It’s about meeting people beard to beard, face to face,” he shares. Beard Sauce Co isn’t just a product; it’s the sale of confidence encapsulated in a bottle. “The joy of witnessing the transformation of individuals who doubted their beard-growing capabilities is unparalleled,” Kendrick says. Positive feedback and repeat customers define Beard Sauce Co’s impact, swiftly making it a beloved local artisan brand resonating with those seeking authenticity in their grooming routine. Devon Kendrick’s vision extends beyond a transactional business. “The Beard Gang, an inclusive community, and the Bearded Guild, an educational platform, reflect my commitment to supporting individuals throughout their unique beard growth journeys,” Kendrick states. In his world, selling a product means being a companion in the before and after of the beard care experience. Beyond the boardroom, Kendrick extends his passion for community through active involvement in initiatives such as Bridge Builders, the Holiday Gift Drive for Teens, and various projects supporting seniors and victims.

His commitment to making a positive impact echoes in both his professional and personal spheres. “From the classrooms of Paraguay to the helm of Beard Sauce Co, my journey epitomizes a commitment to personal growth, community engagement, and the belief that a beard is not merely facial hair—it’s a canvas for confidence and individuality,” Kendrick declares. As he continues to cultivate a brand that sells confidence and empowers, Devon Kendrick stands as a beacon in the grooming industry, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of beard care. Kendrick is also an active member of the South Western Ontario Black Entrepreneurship Network (SWOBEN).

Her alkaline vegan meal preps cater to those with dietary restrictions, prioritizing natural ingredients over processed or fried options.
