There is better temperature control and ventilation, and there’s just more people there to take better care of cows.” Ag United Executive Director Steve Dick recruited Heidi to be the outreach director in fall 2020 because he valued what he’d seen in her as a volunteer giving tours of Boadwine Dairy and working with the Adopt-A-Farmer program. “Consumers are now getting two or three generations away from the farm,” Heidi said. “People don’t understand the amount of work that’s entailed, the amount of risk farmers are at from the markets and weather; and the investment of time, capital and technology.” Heidi’s ability to tell the story of farming and agriculture probably started at the Sioux Empire Fair and the State Fair 30-some years ago when she was tending cattle in the dairy barn and consumers would come by to see the cattle. Their questions provided the gateway for her to tell the story of
