therapist at Avera in Sioux Falls. They waited to get married until after she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The couple met during high school when Hurley and Marion high schools were fielding a football team together. They started dating after the football season. According to Jeff, “I liked Sydney before then, but the football coach said, ‘If you have a girlfriend, keep her. If you don’t have a girlfriend, you don’t get one during the season.’ That’s actually pretty good advice. He didn’t want the drama.” It must have worked – the Hurley-Marion team won the state championship that year. Their three-year-old son, Clay, said Dad drives the cutter and Papa Rich drives the combine. “He’s only three, but he knows every piece of equipment we have and who drives it,” Jeff said.
