Headline and a portion of the news story from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader on June 29, 1933, the day Floyd Strain was captured. Strain was found guilty of robbery and of murdering Fred Voll in the April 1933 bank robbery in Kaylor. Strain’s conviction was reversed on a technicality.

It is said his mother took some comfort that Fred's older brother held him in his arms and recited The Lord's Prayer as his final breath was taken. Shelske was also hit but did not realize it until later that morning when a bullet fell from his coveralls (not verified, but it does make the story more colorful). Also hit by a stray bullet in the escape was Matilda Zweiful who was in her garden at the time. Leaving town, the Chevy with Yankton plates dropped off their hostages about a mile out and then continued north about 10 miles somewhere near the Highway 44 corner and Kaylor oil where the car was abandoned.
