Partnership allows product range expansion

Future-proofing with more cost-effective crop establishment Regenerative agriculture and direct drilling are currently much talked about subjects. Volatile cereal prices, disappearing subsidies and two years of difficult weather conditions have led to tighter margins, increasing the desire to look for more cost-effective ways to establish crops. However, farmers wishing to follow this path can find it difficult to implement and sustain. Simtech Aitchison’s T-Sem drills have been at the forefront of direct drilling in the UK for over a decade. The company’s Simon Clarke says: “The T-Sem drill’s unique inverted T-Slot coulter creates the perfect environment for seed to germinate and develop. At only 10mm wide at its leading edge, the coulter is designed to minimise

surface disturbance. Preceded by a vertical cutting disc, creating a path through surface trash, the T-slot coulter ensures that the seed is always placed on a firm base, and the powerful vibrating double coil tine creates the tilth to cover it, additionally mineralising some nutrients to kick-start seedling development. “The seed slot is not pressed by the drill, as we believe that this process is best managed separately, if necessary. This makes the drill much more versatile and able to work in wetter conditions, without the risk of capping the soil over the seed.” Simtech feels that its long experience in this field means it is well placed to help its customers get the best out of their purchase. Earlier this year, Spaldings became the only licensed supplier of genuine Tillso components, which are stamped with the SabreTine logo. The partnership frees Tillso up to develop more products and machines over the next months and years. It has already produced a new trailed Advantage Ultra T using Ultralite tines at depths of 6–10in for fracturing the root ball zone, available in 3m, 4m, 5m and 6m widths. Tillso offers three versions – tines only machines; tines plus vertical tillage discs either inline or in between the tines; with a third option of adjustable angled discs. All three options can have Opti-openers fitted to the rear of the machines, which are designed to drill OSR, cover crops and beans into the strip of cultivated soil left by the Ultralite tine. The Tillso new Stato 300, 350, 400 is a traditional sub-soiler that takes its Sabre Mono and Sabre Max tine working at depths of 10– 18in. This is in a more conventional

‘V’ configuration machine with 3m, 3.5m and 4m ridged at spacings of 600–800mm, followed by three roller options, its Diamond roller, Flexi-till rubber roller or a Chanel ring roller. All machines are low disturbance Sabre tines to reduce the need for following cultivations, and will be going into production early in the new year. FG
