Clarke & Simpson auctioneer James Durrant was delighted with the success of the online sale to the extent that the firm is considering arranging the second instalment by the same method.

} e l a s m r {fa Clarke & Simpson timed sale A timed online-only farm machinery dispersal sale, on behalf of Strutt & Parker (Farms) Limited, took place between 24–29th June. It was arranged by Suffolk-based auctioneers Clarke & Simpson, and included a wide range of farm machinery including ploughs, cultivators, drills, tractors, a telehandler and two combines. David Williams reports. The sale was arranged to dispose of some of the fleet of machinery owned by Strutt & Parker (Farms) Limited, following the sale of the farming business last year. The original intention was to host two on-site auctions on consecutive days at the company’s Lawn Hall Farm, Essex base, and at Thorpe Morieux in Suffolk; creating what would almost certainly have been the largest active farmer on-site farm machinery dispersal sale ever to take place in the UK.

However, problems created by the Covid-19 pandemic required a change of strategy. “Within social distancing guidelines it would have been impossible to stage a conventional on-site sale,” pointed out Clarke & Simpson auctioneer James Durrant. “Also, the delivery of new machines has been delayed, so a core fleet had to be retained for this harvest and for autumn crop establishment, with the balance of the machinery being sold later in the year.”

“We had a fantastic sale, grossing over £1m, with 100 per cent of lots sold and many exceeding expectations,” commented James. “The level of activity online shows how buyers have embraced the ‘new normal’ method for conducting machinery auctions at the current time. Given the success of the timed online sale, we are considering it as an option again for the sale of the remaining machinery belonging to the business.” FG

This Kverneland Accord 6m hydraulic-folding power-harrow drill combination was expected to attract competitive bidding. It was new in 2012 and comprised a Kverneland NG-S101F35 power-harrow with wheel track eradicators and a packer, an Accord DF2 drill with two rows of disc coulters, covering harrow, tramline and pre-em markers, and a front-mounted hopper. The package achieved a winning bid of £16,000.

This July 2009-registered Ford Transit Connect T220 90 van with 110,625 recorded miles was sold with just over a month’s remaining MOT. It was tidy, although the sills had a few knocks and there were minor paintwork scuffs. It sold for £950, while a similar van, which had recorded 95,000 miles but had an updated MOT to July 2021, made £1,100.

A very good result of £30,200 was achieved for this Kemper 375-Plus 12-row, hydraulic-folding maize header suitable for a Claas Jaguar forage harvester. It was new in 2013 and appeared ready for work.

This West Samurai 5 500/150 trailed straw/ green waste chopper was new in 2017. It carried its original WM Agri dealer stickers and the winning bid was an impressive £9,200.
