Vegetable handling equipment designer and manufacturer, the Haith Group, has appointed a new financial controller to head up its accounts department. The move follows Jen Brindley’s decision to take some time away to care for her son, who was seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident before Christmas. New recruit Emma Johnson has nine years’ worth of financial experience at an industrial hose manufacturer, and has been given responsibility for managing all aspects of Haith finances – dealing with day-today financial administration, as well as producing monthly

accounts, forecasting and budget management. Managing director Nigel Haith says: “As we continue to grow, the amount of work our accounts department has to undertake also rises, so we’ve decided to recruit and are delighted to have found someone with Emma’s experience and skill set.” Emma says she is pleased to be joining the company at an exciting period: “I’ve only been here a few weeks, but it is clear that the company is growing. As the team here focus on meeting the increasing demand, we need to ensure the financial side of the business runs as smoothly and effectively as possible. I’m looking forward to working with the accounts team to ensure this continues.”

Ministers appoint new AHDB chair Nicholas Saphir has been appointed by the government to serve a three-year term as chair of the AHDB, taking effect from 1st April 2020. Nicholas takes over from Sir Peter Kendall, who completed his second term in office at the end of March. Defra farming minister Victoria Prentis MP, said: “Nicholas Saphir has a wealth of experience in the food and farming industry, with a diverse understanding of marketing and trade across a variety of sectors. I am confident he will provide the AHDB with strong leadership, clear vision and enthusiasm as the sector enters a time of change.” Commenting on his appointment, Nicholas said:

“I’m delighted to be involved with AHDB at this pivotal time of change for UK agriculture and horticulture. The AHDB has a vital role to play in helping to equip farmers, growers and processors to make the most of the opportunities and tackle the challenges that lie ahead.” Nicholas built a public company farming, processing and trading fruit and vegetables in the UK, Europe, Southern Africa and South America. He spent the last 18 months building the Organic Milk Producers’ Cooperative (Omsco) into the world’s second largest dedicated organic milk cooperative, with exports of cheese, butter and infant formula grade milk powders to the USA, EU and Australasia. Nicholas also has a long history of chairing industry and government bodies.
