A new agricultural trailer hire business was launched at the Suffolk Show with the handover of a new Stewart 18-23S 18t trailer by main dealer Manns to 14-year old Archie Cansdale. “I aim to establish a successful agricultural hire business before I leave school,” he explained. “I considered hiring mini-diggers but with increased diversity of crops being grown, demand for versatile, well-made trailers is increasing and this Stewart trailer is already booked for the maize harvest by a local contractor and I have a potential hire for wholecrop harvesting too. I offer minimum six-week hire and anticipate most demand will be within East Anglia but am open to considering hire further afield depending on the period and use. “I believe the Stewart trailer will hold its value well and hope to build up a fleet over the next few years,” he added. Archie said that as well as a strong reputation for excellent build quality the Stewart trailer also appealed for the back-up from supplying dealer Manns. land near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk on which a flock of 650 ewes is grazed with the grass also used for hay, most of which is sold for equine use to Newmarket. Claas machinery operated includes a tractor, Scorpion loader and Quadrant baler all bought through the dealer. Further family links with the dealer include both of Archie’s grandfathers – one of who is a farmer and uses Claas combines and the other; Roy Cansdale who was instrumental in setting up and running Combine World. “Archie Cansdale Agricultural Trailer Hire is a business which I can run while still in education and most of my promotion so far has been through social media and has generated considerable interest,” added Archie. ■
