MF salutes dealer’s 125-year success Massey Ferguson says it is celebrating the 125th anniversary of one of its longest-serving farm machinery distributors in the UK. With headquarters now based in Brigg, North Lincs, Peacock & Binnington (P&B) was founded in Hull in 1894. By 1898, it was displaying MasseyHarris binders, forerunners to the present day Massey Ferguson, at a local show. Serving famers in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, today P&B sells the full line-up of Massey Ferguson products including tractors, harvesting machinery and materials handling equipment. The company is one of the MF brand’s top four distributors in the UK by volume sales, and scooped the award for the highest number of MF combine harvester sales in the UK in 2018. In a year of events and activities, the celebrations are being spearheaded by the production of 125 individually-numbered, limited edition Massey Ferguson tractors liveried with 125th anniversary badges and extras such as black bonnets. The tractors are available exclusively to P&B customers who will also receive a glass etched model tractor with the same number as their limited edition life-size machine. Interest in these special machines is already strong with customers requesting to order a specific number from the limited edition. P&B has also produced a “show-stopping” 280hp MF 7726 S in stunning gold livery as a flagship for the anniversary events and exhibitions. Special

promotions will be run at the company’s depots throughout 2019 and the anniversary theme will be highly visible at local shows. “Many congratulations to the P&B team in reaching this 125-year milestone,” says Massey Ferguson national sales manager UK and Ireland, William Judge. “P&B is a strong partner and an exceptional ambassador for the MF brand and its values. With an enthusiastic, highly-driven sales force dedicated to Massey Ferguson, the company is forward-thinking and always ready to take on a challenge.”

A long history

In 1894, Henry Peacock and John Binnington started their agricultural engineering business in West Street, Hull when mechanised farming was in its infancy. Within two years, a further branch was opened at the Old Foundry, in Brigg, Lincs. After that new depots opened to meet a growing customer base and the increasing use of farm machinery. In 1953, the company was presented with a 50year service award by Massey-Harris and, in 1958, was appointed North Lincolnshire distributor for the newly-formed Massey Ferguson. Along with its Brigg HQ, P&B operates branches in Selby, Corringham, Louth and Halsham. The

company employs 135 people and reported a combined total turnover of £63.7m in 2018. Michael Peacock, grandson of Henry Peacock, continues as chairman today and is still actively involved in the business on a daily basis. Michael’s son, Nicholas is vice-chairman – the fourth generation of the family to be part of the P&B operation.
