Derbyshire farm sale outstanding from start to finish

A dispersal sale near Buxton arranged by auctioneers Bagshaws in late April was very well attended. David Williams writes. The sale at Greensides Farm, Buxton on behalf of the executors of the late Stuart Bagnall, included machinery used on the cattle and sheep enterprise. “We had been dealing with Stuart for a long time as he used to sell stock through Bakewell market,” explained Bagshaws partner and auctioneer Mark Elliott. “The remaining suckler cows and sheep were all sold through Bakewell and Leek markets before the machinery sale and now the farm is being sold

through us, and is listed on our website. “Stuart was highly regarded and a lovely person to deal with, having farmed Greenside Farm for many decades. He went out of dairy approximately 20 years ago and his machinery was all well used but attracted a large attendance at the sale, achieving prices which pleased the executors. They thanked our team for their efforts and for a superb sale day,” he added.

The Case IH 5140 Maxxum carried an ‘H-registration’, had worked 12,533 hours and was in tidy condition for its age. It was on good tyres with plenty of remaining tread, had powershift transmission, a pick-up hitch, front mudguards and twin spools. It achieved a very respectable £7,200. Pictured beside the Case IH is a newer Belarus 920 4wd with a Hydrometal AT40 loader, with third hydraulic service and a Euro 8 headstock. It was registered on an ‘02-plate’, had recorded just 1,061 hours and was in very good condition. The winning bid was £8,500.

With no current MOT this Land Rover Defender 110TDi Commercial had a front bull bar, rear combi ball hitch and had recorded 138,000 miles. It was registered on a 1996 ‘N-plate’ and sold for £2,800. A Graham Edwards DM16T triaxle livestock trailer with a 16ft body, demount top and cattle partition achieved a winning bid of £2,800.

A very unusual lot was this Michigan 35 loading shovel. It had a rigid body, rear wheel steering and dated from the mid-1970s. Power was from a 4-cyl diesel engine driving through a torque converter transmission. It was sold with its cab which had been removed, and the winning bid was £1,480.
