Trailed sprayer range expanded The Oceanis 2 trailed sprayer.

Kuhn Farm Machinery has added four new models to its range of Oceanis 2 trailed crop sprayers: the Oceanis 5002; 5602; 6902 and 7702 machines have tank capacities of 5,000, 5,600, 6,900 and 7,700 litres respectively and are available with compact, all-aluminium booms in widths of 24–48m. The new sprayers are fully Isobus compatible, enabling them to be controlled from a single in-cab terminal (such as Kuhn’s CCI1200 or CCI50 controllers), while a separate Isoclick control box provides additional operator comfort by placing the key sprayer controls (section control, boom height and angle) within fingertip reach, says the company. The new sprayers are also Canbus compatible and can be operated via Kuhn’s Visioreb or REB3 controllers. Each new model is available with the Multispray system which uses electric nozzle holders to enable incab nozzle selection, automatic nozzle selection to suit the forward working speed and to maximise the accuracy

of variable rate applications, plus individual nozzle control to reduce overlapping. Kuhn’s e-SET cleaning system automates the tank rinsing sequence, making the Oceanis 2 extremely safe and efficient to use, while a new closed transfer system (CTS) chemical induction bowl – the Easyflow system – further enhances operator safety by enabling chemicals to be added and chemical containers to be cleaned without the risk of the operator coming into contact with any harmful substances. Kuhn’s Stopmix system automatically switches the tank’s agitator off to prevent excessive foam creation and to reduce the ‘dead volume’ of product left in the tank. The company’s self-levelling boom system – Boom Assist Total Pro – keeps the spray boom in the optimum position and height irrespective of field and crop conditions, thereby increasing spraying precision and reducing spray drift. This system is equipped with a ‘Hybrid mode’ which

uses three sensors to distinguish between crop canopy and ground level, thereby improving spraying accuracy in high density crops such as oilseed rape or potatoes, or where the crop has lodged. All four new Oceanis models are fitted with easy-rinse polyester tanks with internal baffles for improved machine stability. Drawbar, axle, parallelogram and boom suspension systems provide additional stability and boom security when spraying and during transportation. The Oceanis 2 range starts at the following prices: 5002 – £77,952; 5602 – £79,081; 6902 – £86,806; 7702 – £87,936.

Vineyard and orchard The manufacturer has also launched a new mist sprayer as part of its Amenity Pro horticultural equipment range. The trailed Antis mist sprayer – which was displayed at the Agri-Expo event, Kent in early March, has been specifically designed for applying crop protection chemicals in vineyards, orchards, market gardens and soft fruit plantations. It is available in three tank sizes; 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 litres, with each version available with either a round or v-shaped mist blower, both of which use an inverted suction turbine to provide accurate and comprehensive mist coverage. Three versions of the round turbine are available: 720, 820 and 920mm diameter, each of which is fitted with 14 double rotary misting jets. The v-shaped ‘tower’ blower is equipped with either 18, 20 or 22 jets

(72, 82 and 92 model versions) which deliver a ‘blade’ of mist to a height of up to 25ft (approximately 7.6m). On all models, the inverted air intake is positioned at the front of the machine to minimise the recirculation of sprayed products. Its location towards the front of the sprayer also prevents the pick-up of debris and foreign objects such as vegetation which could obstruct air intake and reduce the machine’s operational efficiency. Spraying functions are controlled via an in-cab control panel, with an optional DPAE Bravo regulator enabling operators to continuously adjust the flowrate according to forward speed, and to operate left/ right section control functions. The Antis is based on a galvanised steel, corrosion resistant chassis which features all the necessary design elements to comply with the latest spraying standards and traffic regulations (DREAL 40km/h approval). It is also supplied with a pre-approved National Sprayer Testing Scheme (NSTS) certificate. ■

Drilling from mid November is crucial for black-grass control. Following mid-November drilling, spring germinating black-grass may remain dormant and would be less competitive against established wheat drilled on conventional row widths. The same principle can be applied to drilling very early with spring cereals.
