Teen Fire and REscue Academy

Through a partnership with the Fire Department, Parks & Recreation offers a hands-on teen camp with basic CPR training, search-and-rescue drills and real-life scenario challenges. The week includes tours of training facilities and concludes with an awards ceremony.

This year’s academy will take place the week of June 5 and is limited to 14 participants, ages 13-18. The fee is $50 for residents and $65 for non-residents. For more information, and to register, visit fbyouthcamps.com.

Fight the Bite

Remember the five d’s as your best defense against mosquitoes.

• Drain standing water in your backyard and neighborhood, change out pet water and bird baths daily, and treat swimming pools.

• Apply insect repellent that contains DEET

• Dress in light-colored long sleeves and long pants when outside.

• Stay indoors at dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.

• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
