green up with fargo parks arbor day celebration

Development and cultural practices have prevented natural regeneration of trees along the banks of the river. Planting trees in key areas along the Red will create a buffer to maintain river bank stability, encourage the growth of native plants, improve water quality (F-M’s drinking water source!), and provide habitat for river wildlife. Trees reduce air pollution, cool the atmosphere, prevent soil erosion ease the severity of floods and decrease maintenance costs of roads and parking areas. Volunteers Needed: We can all help our planet by planting the right tree in the right place. Join our park and city foresters in a community planting project. If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact christine@riverkeepers.org or call 235-2895.

tracks+trails+tails recreational trail system

The Fargo Park District’s goal for our trail system is to provide safe and enjoyable trails for bicyclists, walkers, runners and inline skaters. There are over 105 miles of scenic paths in the Fargo park system. The Fargo Park District’s recreational trail system also has four bridges complementing the recreational trails. Three bridges connect the Fargo and Moorhead park systems over the Red River at Oak Grove, Lindenwood and Dike East. The bridge at Oak Grove is typically in use June-February, weather permitting. The bridge at Lindenwood will be open year round, pending a flood. The bridge at Dike East is typically in use June-October, weather permitting. The fourth bridge is over the Sheyenne River near Osgood and is open year round. The Fargo Park District and the City of Fargo with the help of The Metropolitan Council of Governments are always looking for new trail connections throughout the City of Fargo. We look forward to new trail construction and appreciate any comments. If you notice any hazards on Fargo’s recreational trails, please contact us at 499-6060. A map of the Park Recreational Trail System is available in the middle of this booklet and online at:

tennis programs Whether your child is just starting the game or is trying to make a local school team, we have lessons designed to take them to the next level. For more information please contact Oliver Summers at 237-4805 or osummers@courtsplus.org. Register for this program through Fargo Parks.

star junior tennis+MXP tennis Our Star Junior Tennis and MXP Tennis program uses a progressive court system that uses 36’, 60’ and 78’ (regular size) tennis court. Coupled with ensuring the proper racquet length and using different types of tennis balls based on age and ability, our goal is to get your child playing tennis as soon as possible. This system gives your child a visible

progression to maximize their improvement. Each of our lessons will be divided up into three critical phases beginning with a warm-up emphasizing tennis specific movement and coordination. This is followed by a skill-building phase. Then, skills are practiced “live” in a competitive phase, where rallying and game conditions are experienced.
