The primary purpose of car rims is to offer leverage and a stable foundation for mounting your tires. Friction reduction, handling, as well as gas mileage, are all improved by a good rim. So today we will work through it to find out how much can a car rim handle and basically run some tests on it which I will be explaining down below so that we can have a good idea about how good the rim is built. The model is taken from GrabCAD and then is imported in Ansys WorkBench through the .igs file. The material I have chosen for this car rim is Aluminum Alloy. Moving on, let’s talk about the different analysis I will be carrying out on it which are as follows1) Static Structural 2) Modal Analysis 3)Harmonic Analysis In static structural analysis we found out equivalent von mises stresses, deformation and maximum principal stresses and in the modal analysis we checked the modes shapes of the car rim and further we found out the harmonic stresses, acceleration response, deformation response etc. Later we compared the induced stresses are less than the allowable stresses of the material.
