THINGS TO DO Climb Adam’s Peak Sri Lanka’s highest mountain is deeply ingrained in Sri Lankan folklore. Also known as the Sacred Footprint – because of an indentation at the summit said to belong to Adam (of Adam and Eve fame) – Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians all consider it a holy place and a popular pilgrimage site, with 4,800 steps to the top.

Diving Around Pigeon Island Off the northeastern shore of Sri Lanka, this island is surrounded by a limestone reef which harbours 100 species of coral and more than 300 different types of fish. Declared a marine sanctuary in 1963, it’s a prime destination for divers… and pigeons.

PLACES TO GO Callaway Gardens

Gergeti Trinity Church

Callaway Gardens are a popular leisure center situated north of Columbus on Pine Mountain. The gardens feature artificial lakes, a butterfly house and many plants and flora. Robin Lake is a great place for water-sport enthusiasts and hosts the Masters Waterski and Wakeboard Tournament annually.

Unlike any church that you’ve seen in your life before, the Gergeti Trinity Church is perched dramatically on hilltop below Mt Kazbegi, at a height of 2160 meters above sea level! Built in the 14th century, the church boasts of the Caucasus Mountains in the backdrop, which makes it one of the best tourist attractions in Georgia.

A coveted Georgia tourist attraction, Narikala Fortress is a famous 4th century fortress located in Tbilisi. Built by the Persians, the fortress gives out unprecedented views of old Tbilisi and the shimmering Mtkvari River.

The Fox Theatre Built in the 1920s as the Yaarab Temple Mosque, the Fox Theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its history has been varied but it has always been an adored landmark despite problems during the Great Depression. The interior of the building has seen much restoration work in order to preserve its 1920s appearance.

THINGS TO DO Chill Out For A Few Days In Boracay

Visit Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park

The island of Boracay in the Philippines has become famous around the world for its beautiful white beaches. The island is only 7km in length and at its narrowest just 500m wide but people flock here for the outstanding beauty that the island offers.

The area is protected and has a cave system that is incredibly complex. There is a river that flows through the caves for 8.2km before flowing directly into the sea. The Puerto Princesa Underground River has been declared as one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. You can go for a ride on a paddle boat which is an excellent way to see the river and learn about the rock formations as well as the thousands of bats that live there.

Spend Time At Historical Fort Santiago Fort Santiago in Manila is a citadel that was built by the Spanish as a defense fortress within the cities walls. The fort is incredibly popular with tourists and has a fascinating story.

Enjoy The Unusual Chocolate Hills There are at least 1,260 hills spread out over an area covering approximately 20 square miles. The small hills are covered in grass and as the dry season advances the grass turns from green to brown and starts to look like chocolate.

Visit Borobudur Temple

Visit the famous Kuta beach, a strip of beach in the south of Bali where the sea rests on a sand bar and provides gentle rolling waves which are perfect for beginners learning to surf. Surfing lessons by the hour are plentiful or visitors can rent a sponge board and ride the waves that way.

Borobudur Buddhist temple, located in Magelang, Central Java, is easily visited by travelers staying in the neighboring city of Yogyakarta. Dating from the 9th Century, Borobudur is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has a central dome surrounded by 72 sculpted figures of Buddha, making it the largest Buddhist temple in the world.

Pulau Weh, or Weh Island, is located at the tip of Sumatra, off the coast of Aceh. The island still experiences volcanic activity and sits in the Andaman Sea, and is home to Sabang, the northernmost town in Indonesia.

Go trekking in Bukit Lawang Located a four hour drive from the capital city of North Sumatra, Medan, Bukit Lawang has the largest sanctuary of Sumatran orangutan in Indonesia, and also forms the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park, which stretches all the way to Aceh Province in the north of Indonesia.

Many Indonesians maintain that the best food in Indonesia hails from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra. Padang food is still served in the traditional way all over Indonesia, and a Padang restaurant is easily spotted by the tower of dishes stacked in the window.

Tana Toraja Tana Toraja literarily translates as ‘Land of the Toraja’, and refers to the indigenous people of this area of South Sulawesi. Tana Toraja is described as the second most popular tourist destination in Indonesia after Bali, and visitors travel here to see traditional culture, ornate homes, and to glimpse how the local communities have lived and worked for centuries.

THINGS TO DO Sunbathe on Langkawi If you fancy getting out of the city then head to Langkawi Island, actually an archipelago of over a hundred islands in the Andaman Sea, only two of which are inhabited and of which Langkawi is the largest with a population of over 60,000 inhabitants.

Sample Some Local Flavor With Nasi Kandar Nasi Kandar is a staple food in Malaysia and actually means ‘mixed rice’, as customers are given a plate with rice over which they can choose a variety of toppings and sauces. Nasi Kandar is based on Tamil dishes due to the high number of South Indian immigrants and the flavors reflect this with an emphasis on curry powder and chili.

Enjoy the Culture in Malacca Malacca or Melaka is also known as ‘The Historic State’ and lies next to the Malacca Strait from which it gets its name. The state is said to have the most interesting architecture in all of Malaysia as it was formerly colonized by the Portuguese and features a number of red lacquer buildings from the period such as Christ Church. Malacca also has a high concentration of museums, galleries, and places of historic interest for visitors to explore.

Observe the Orang Utans in Sepilok Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, East Malaysia, is found outside of the city of Sandakan and was the first orang utan rehabilitation centre of its kind in the world when it opened in the 1960s. The aim of the centre is to rescue orphaned orang utans who have been left to fend for themselves due to illegal poaching and logging, or who have been found being kept as pets (which is illegal in Malaysia), and administer healthcare and training to the mammals so that they are able to reintegrate and survive in the wild.
