A flexible work from home business Training, team support and fun A little extra money or a life changing salary Ultra-premium beauty products that sell themselves • Mercedes Benz cash bonus • Personal Development
With jobs for life and end of salary pensions becoming a thing of the past, a new generation of savvy businesswomen have come up with a new approach to the work-life balance that is not only often lucrative but flexible too. Jane Cuva from Woking, mum of two children aged 7 and 3 and Independent Consultant with Arbonne explains; “ Network Marketing is being billed as the business of the 21st Century by many entrepreneurs and after having worked a year in this industry I can see why. It is a brilliantly simple concept. I am in business for myself but not by myself as I am given all the support and training I need; I am building a team of people that I choose to work with (no more office politics); I work around my commitments to my children and best of all I am getting paid not only on the time and effort that I put in, but also that of my growing team and I could never have achieved that in my old publishing job. The Arbonne products, successful through word of mouth alone, really sell themselves and I love the fact that I am getting paid to recommend safe, pure and beneficial products to everyone! This job is bringing out my confidence as it is very people orientated - I have made so many good new friends out of this ...oh yes and I get to buy superior beauty products from myself at a discount!!!.” Arbonne offer a Swiss formulated range of ultra premium beauty, health and wellness products and the company is committed to the development of unparalleled products free of harmful ingredients using a combination of botanical principles and scientific discovery. Arbonne, who have networks of consultants in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK get the nod of approval from none other than Vogue.com who describe Arbonne in their Beauty Blog (29th June 2010) as a ‘cult skincare brand’ and ask ‘how long before the secret gets out?’. From Insurance to Music & Dance - One Mum’s Story!!! I studied music and theatre studies at school and college but like many people, I ended up falling into a job negotiating the settlement of insurance claims for over 20 years. With three daughters the going was tough but I absolutely loved my job and with such investment in my career, it was a massive decision to leave it both financially and also personally. I have always been clear about my need to work and it has been a big dilemma to combine career and raising my three daughters. How can I have it all? I started running ‘MAD Academy’ classes nearly a year ago which means I can now work exactly when I want to. I run music and dance classes when the children are at school, and I do my paperwork and record keeping while the children dream away their days in bed. My parents always wanted me to be a music teacher and my mother took extra jobs to pay for my music lessons. It paid off Mum!! I now sing and dance my way through the days, having fun and passing on those skills to a very worthy bunch of beautiful kids. Happy days!! TopTurn Ideas a Family Friendly Business Around three in four mums would love to start a business, but it can be difficult to know what sort of business would work for you. Antonia Chitty and Helen Lindop have written a book, Start a Family Friendly Business: 129 Business Ideas for Mums, which gives you the inside take on some great business ideas AND tells you how to work out which one is right for you. Read on to find some business ideas to get you started:
1. Start a service. A service business can use your existing
skills and is a great business to choose if you want to start earning fast. Think about - starting a cleaning business – becoming a virtual assistant – offering dog walking – becoming a personal trainer.
2. Turn a hobby into a business. If you are crafty and creative
you might like to start selling your crafts. Carefully cost up the materials you use AND factor in the time it takes you to make each item before you set a price. Research the competition – look at online craft markets like Misi, Etsy and Dawanda and check out local events too. Go for it if you can create your craft while still making a profit!
3. Make money online. There are hundreds of ways to make money
online, but it helps to have some guidance to find genuine opportunities. Drop shipping allows you to set up an online store without having to hold stock. You take orders but the products are sent direct from the drop shipper to the customer. It is an easy way to start selling online, but you’ll find profits are lower than if you hold items yourself and you need to put lots of effort into finding customers. Alternatively, you could start up an online information site. Pick a topic that you are an expert in, ideally one where there isn’t lots of information online already. Plan how you will make money from your site – you could take advertising and sponsorship or have an exclusive membership area that people can subscribe to.
If you like one of these ideas, have your own business brainwave that you want to test out or want to find over a hundred further business ideas that work for mums (or anyone wanting family friendly flexibility) check out Start a Family Friendly Business: 129 Business Ideas for Mums (£9.99). As well as business ideas you’ll find out the essentials of planning and succeeding as a businessmum. Buy the book from Amazon or visit www.familyfriendlyworking.co.uk.
