Researchers studying when and how infants learn how to understand facial expressions of emotion are looking for baby helpers up to 24 months. Grown ups seem to know this instinctively: if we see someone smiling we know they are happy. But it’s not instinct — very young babies don’t do this — so the team at the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, at University College of London (UCL)’s Institute of Child Health is studying how infants develop this ability. They are looking for families with young infant scientists between 6 and 24 months to help them. The study involves visiting UCL for a safe 30-minute electroencephalogram session. They offer £5 compensation for your time. If your baby is too young, they can set up a study visit for when your child reaches the appropriate age. Attach-a-Tag boosts fund-raising scheme for groups Attach-a-Tag, the brilliant way to put name tags on clothes, shoes and other property, is expanding its fund-raising scheme for schools, nurseries and groups.
Homeclean opens in Croydon and Bromley A new cleaning service is now available in the Croydon and Bromley areas. Local mum, Emma Swan has set up a business called Homeclean, which is a domestic cleaning agency. They charge £7/hour in addition to an annual agency fee for providing cleaning and ironing services. Her office is dedicated to serving the Croydon CR and Bromley BR postcodes. She told Families, “Our cleaners are locally based and are happy to travel to our clients’ homes at times/dates to suit the client.” She added, “We can provide high quality cleaners at very short notice. They all offer an ironing and laundry service too.
