Kyokushin Karate is the most well-known form of full-contact karate in the world, developed by Masutatsu Oyama in Japan. After more than 10 years living, training and teaching in Japan, Kenilworth resident Troy McConachy now offers instruction in Kyokushin Karate straight from the source. Training adheres to Japanese protocols of hard training, modesty and politeness, while developing strength in basic techniques and stances, kata, as well as practical applications in sparring and kumite. Karate training not only offers the chance to improve fitness and health, but also the chance to develop positive attitudes towards selfimprovement and the resilience to succeed in other areas of life.

Troy McConachy trained in Kyokushin Karate and Japanese language in Australia as a child, then trained and taught under Sensei Shinji Adachi in Tokyo between 2004 and 2015. He received his black belt under Shihan Yuzo Goda (current Supreme Advisor to Tokyo Headquarters) in 2012. Troy is fluent in Japanese and uses Japanese as a main language of instruction together with English. Training is held every Friday from 6pm-7pm at Clarendon Hall (inside St Nicholas Hall) in Kenilworth. There is a children’s class for 6-12 year olds, 13 year olds and above join the adults’ class.
