[New] Pocklington Prep School’s Curiosity Project

The recent introduction of Pocklington Prep School’s revolutionised curriculum, ‘The Curiosity Project’, goes from strength to strength with the aim of enabling children to expand their critical thinking skills through a structured and creative enquiry-based approach.

From the youngest pupils investigating ‘What makes a home?’ to Year 6 learners exploring the concept of dominance, the Curiosity Project encourages and provides the children with opportunities to connect with ideas and explore them at a deeper level.

Learners may start to examine their Curious Question as a marine biologist; during another week they will act as archaeologists examining the past. Underpinned by the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills, the questions are designed to be broad and thought provoking, but also linked to the prior learning and existing interests of a class.

Pupils enjoy the creative element of answering questions in a variety of different ways and from different viewpoints, which offer them a glimpse into a range of further education and career opportunities from a young age.

Not only do the pupils enthuse about their new curriculum, but there has also been positive engagement from the parent community. ‘Great Exhibitions’, live debates and drama performances are just some of the events parents at Prep School have been invited to share with their children, who relish the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills to the wider school community.

A Year 4 pupil commented: “I love our Curiosity Project lessons because we get to learn about so many different things. I especially like it when we get to answer the question at the end. Everybody always has a different idea to share and I love showing all the work I have done.”
