“Holy, Holy, Holy”

A Trinitarian Invocation The Father : Pastor: Let us call upon God our Father. People: He has created us and all that exists, giving us our bodies and souls and all their powers. Pastor: He provides us with food and clothing, home and family, daily work, and all we need from day to day. People: He also protects us in time of danger and guards us from every evil. Pastor: All this He does out of fatherly and divine goodness and mercy, though we do not deserve it. All: Therefore we surely ought to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. The Son : Pastor: Let us call upon our Lord Jesus Christ, People: True God, Son of the Father from eternity, And true man, born of the virgin Mary. Pastor: At great cost He has saved and redeemed us who were lost and condemned. People: He has freed us from sin, death, and the power of the devil, 2

Pastor: All:

Not with silver or gold, but with His holy and precious blood, and His innocent suffering and death. All this He has done so that we may be His own, live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness. Just as He is risen from the dead and lives and rules eternally.

The Holy Spirit ď ˜: Pastor: Let us call upon the Holy Spirit. People: He has called upon through the Gospel, enlightened us with His gifts, and sanctified and kept us in the true faith. Pastor: In this Christian church day after day He fully forgives our sins, and the sins of all believers. People: On the last day He will raise us and all the dead, and give us and all believers in Christ eternal life. Pastor: Almighty and Eternal God, You have given Your family the grace to confess the true faith. We understand and appreciate the eternal Trinity and the unity of your majestic work. Strengthen us in this faith that we may be defended from all contrary teaching, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen. The Confession and Absolution Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Holy Name. Amen. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of the Word, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 3

The Prayer for Today Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. (spoken) Pastor: Let us pray… “Heavenly Father, as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, open our eyes to find opportunities to witness our joyful faith. We pray in Christ’s name, who lives, and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit one God, now and forever. People: Amen. Please be seated Old Testament Reading Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40(Bible Page 190) 32“For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever happened or was ever heard of. 33Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live? 34Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 39know

therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. 40Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the LORD your God is giving you for all time.” Reader: This is the Word of the Lord People: Thanks be to God. (spoken) New Testament Reading Acts 2:14, 22-36(Page 1,157) 14But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 22“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, 4

as you yourselves know— 23this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; 26therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. 27For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. 28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ 29“Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35until I make your enemies your footstool.’ 36Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Reader: This is the Word of the Lord People: Thanks be to God. (spoken)

In honor of Christ who rose from the dead, we rise to sing All Sing:

Matthew 28:1-20(Page 1,061)

The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew the 28th chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. (spoken) 5

1Now

after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” 11While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day. 16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Pastor: All:

This is The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. (spoken)
