Technological Titillation: eShabab 2013!

Fostering technological innovation in the minds of Bahraini youth, eShabab returns for its third event, and promises to be bigger and better than ever!

First created in 2009, eShabab was designed to expose Bahraini youth to the latest technologies, and in turn inspire technological creativity in their minds. In its first year there were 250 delegates from universities across the kingdom, with 16 unique and innovative projects challenging each other for the event awards. The following year, those figures almost doubled, with 450-plus delegates and 23 projects taking part! “This year, we come stronger, with a conference, workshops, and a program to link innovators with the private sector along with our usual Innovation Competition,” said Mr. Ahmed al Hujairy, CEO of Worksmart, the organisers of the competition. 18

“We wholeheartedly invite Bahrain’s youth, government and private sector to come and take active part in this threeday event for Innovation in Technology.” The eShabab initiative came as an acknowledgment of the need to support youth in Bahrain in order for them to bring their innovative projects and initiatives to light, and eventually becoming products that benefit the society and economy. This year, eShabab comes as part of the InvoTech conference, a three-day event covering the most current subjects related to the fields of technology and ICT, and educating participants on the most relevant issues. This is done through workshops and talks on various relevant and topical subjects hosted by guest speakers, and an exciting

technology competition, eShabab 2013, in which students and participants enter projects and compete for the awards. Subjects of the talk sessions include ‘ICT and Innovation Strategies’, ‘The Skills that contribute to innovation’, ‘Innovation in Telecoms’, and ‘Patents and protecting your rights,’ to name a few. There will be a total of eight sessions over the course of the two-day event, with four on each day. The eShabab competition is open to university students in Bahrain, with spaces for thirty projects to be involved. There will be nine projects awarded by eShabab. n GO: The Invotech conference and eShabab 2013 competition will take place on July 1, 2 and 3 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.
