I’m Dean Hodgson, and my kids (Jake, Harlee and Brooke) and I live in Seaward Estates. I have been in the real estate industry since 1998, but I’ve been selling property in Seaward since 2004. I moved into the Estate in March 2011 and have seen Seaward’s property prices grow year on year!
My kids and I love to be active, and something we thoroughly enjoy about the Estate is the fantastic family lifestyle it provides. Growing up on the Estate has meant that my kids have been able to play with their friends in the afternoons and just grow up as kids - “like the good old days”.
Our home is often like a railway station with the norm being five kids or more in the house in the afternoons. Street braais with neighbours are our favourite pastime, often paired with the laughter of children playing together.
Jake is a top KZN swimmer in his age group and his sisters are following suit… We both enjoy a good game
of padel, and Harlee and Brooke love being able to join in the fun too! We also love family walks around the Estate and the community events, especially the Halloween party.
We currently don’t have any pets - just a bunch of fish.
Although the kids sorely miss their two dogs, Duke and Duchess.
We love to travel at the moment. We have a lovely home in the Estate and overlook a lush greenbelt. We love Seaward living!

Public holidays are great. You get to revel in a pause in everyday life - stay home from work, spend time with friends and family, or even go on a short holiday.
South Africa has quite a few public holidays with important stories behind them. On 27 April (yes, unfortunately, it falls on a Saturday this year!), we will be celebrating the 30th annual Freedom Day. What does this day mean to us as South Africans?
On 27 April 1994, the first post-apartheid elections were held across the country. This meant that every South African of any
race older than 18 was allowed to cast a vote and have a say in who should run the Republic. It was also the day on which our new constitution, arguably one of the most progressive in the world, was introduced.
This day is very significant in our history and was announced as a public holiday in the Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994). Every year on 27 April, the government marks the occasion with a speech by the President.
Whatever you are doing on Freedom Day this year, take a moment to recognise the importance of this day in our history and celebrate 30 years of democracy.
