NR 532 Week 1 Leadership and Management Theories

Many leaders hesitate to show vulnerability to their team. Discuss at least one way that you could show vulnerability as a leader to your team. How could this help you positively connect with your team (See the Person-Centred Nursing Framework (PC) PowerPoint link in your required reading for the week)?

As a leader, to build a relationship with your team, you must connect with them. This is done by taking the time out to share your vision, mission, values, and expectations of where you want the team to go. Through sharing, you take the time to find out what each member's vision is and helping them align their practice to your vision as the leader. Then you begin to form a relationship individually with each member finding out what and where they are looking to accomplish for the immediate future and end future goals. This is how you learn what type of leadership encouragement, coaching, and mentoring they need, which is how you begin to show some vulnerability to them from getting to know each other.

As a leader, this shows having a sympathetic presence and engagement, which are two attributes of the Person-Centred Practice Framework developed by McCormack, 2017. Through Human-Centered Leadership, based on complex adaptive systems (CAS), leaders can create an environment that encourages their team to report concerns or problems without blame or shame. Also, invest in each individual's personal growth to create a learning atmosphere, building a team that binds wisdom, and developing innovative ideas that impact their practice (Kennedy et al., 2020).

In healthcare, we spend just as much with your team and maybe more than you spend your family. It is crucial to establish a connection with people you spend so much time with as it creates an environment of caring. vulnerability that are exposed. Most people describe their workplace as their second home and their teams as work families. In healthcare, the new thing to do is develop a culture of caring, and this is one example of how it is formed.
