Brazilian Architect, Oscar Niemeyer, designed Casa Das Canoas for his family in 1951. Located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the house sits in the middle of the tropic greenery of the area. More specifically, the house is on two slabs of stone placed into a lush hill. The mail level is over 50% glass, minimizing the separation between indoor and outdoor space. Niemeyer’s use of curves and fluidity of boundaries exemplify his love for nature’s beauty. Other features of the immediate area surrounding the home include a boulder that reaches into the residence, a pool that recreates the architecture in through its reflection, and statues of a mysterious female figure. The composition to the right abstractly represents the features of the residence through the use of floor plans.

The roof of this building serves guide not only into the as aa guilde building from the city but also throughout the entire program. This is made possible by creating a canopy-like structure that extends roof panels from the entrance of the building to the opposite side. Light poors into almost every space with the canopy’s large openings.
