Sesión de comunicaciones orales · Oral session driven and framed by these transboundary initiatives, will facilitate a coherent integrated approach to solving common problems, using standardised protocols and comparable results. The Red Kite’s mission in the French Pyrenees is orchestrated by LPO, and involves 12 organisational partners as well as over 200 voluntary and staff members, a technical committee, thereby supporting a constant attention. The scale of this effort allows to value the importance of the Pyrenees as one of the last strongholds of the Red Kite in France: - Monitoring of the reproductive success within the target sample zones make it possible to record remarkable densities of about more 15 couples per 100 km² in few sampled valleys. This breeding population, probably historically underestimated, has already been found to exhibit relatively low dynamic characteristics and reproductive success. - Counting of winter dormitories, which represents a real challenge for the Pyrenees. First major stop-off point for the migrating populations of the species in France in winter, the surveys on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees record an estimated 5000 individuals divided across at least 110 sites. This operation underlines the importance of the massif for the most northerly European Red Kite populations, a fact clarified in part thanks to the ability to monitor individuals using the tags from marking programs. - Watch and scientific expertise on mortality allows the identification of the principal threats and the identification of products and/or chemical agents causally implicated in these deaths. - Conservation activities with the members of the farming community, forestry and rural planning as well as the involvement of the general public, schools and legal professionals are undertaken.
