Star contributors range from Axel Scheffler to Michael Foreman, and from Cressida Cowell to Victoria Topping. Some monsters have escaped to the city. Bronwyn Williams-Ellis: Mythical Beasts Past & Present

The lively and colourful beasts painted onto ceramic dishes featured in this show by the Bathbased artist have been conceived as partners to the adjoining Myths & Monsters exhibition.

A Better World is Edible

How does the food we eat affect the planet, and what can we do about it? Go to the kitchen at We the Curious to cook up some sustainable snacks, chat about the food we eat and changes we can make. Two activities alternate: The Big Green Grill-Off and The Missing Ingredient. For 7 year olds and above.

Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters

Colourful and vibrant exhibition of Aboriginal Australian Art for all ages in the Box Museum in Plymouth. With over 300 paintings and objects by more than 100 artists. The centre piece of the exhibition is a digital dome experience which immerses audiences in the rich landscapes and culture of Australia. Audiences are invited to lie on the ground and look up at the ceiling of the dome and star gaze where a circular film of the Australian skies, landscapes, it’s art and its history is projected.

Peak Through the Wardrobe

Make a trip to Milsom Place, Milsom Street, Bath and follow the paw prints to discover a vision of Narnia. A diorama will transport viewers into a magical world complete with a life-size lion accompanied by his faithful animal companions, the witch’s throne and, of course, the essential wardrobe.

Behind Closed Doors Tours

A chance to see behind the normally closed doors of Stourhead House. Tours may cover four floors with many stairs, from the basement to the attics. You will be able to see how some of the rooms in the house are used today, as offices, conservation studios, and many other uses, giving you an insight into what goes on behind the scenes to care for Stourhead House and its collection. Advance booking recommended. From 11.15am to 12.15pm, free with normal admission.

The Blackdown Hills: A Photographic Portrait

Exhibition in Somerset Rural Life Museum bringing together over 50 photographs by Somerset-based photographer Pauline Rook. It includes a selection of her most recent work, captured using the infrared techniques she began to learn during lockdown.

The Adoption Donkey Top Trumps Trail

Discover who comes out on top in this head-to-head game at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. Do you know which adoption donkey has the loudest bray, who is the most playful and who has the largest ears? They have scored the adoption donkeys against eight different donkey stats and the aim of the game is to find out who trumps whom in each head-tohead round. Simply follow the trail to find the giant Top Trumps cards located around the sanctuary and reveal which adoption donkey comes out on top in each round. Once you have completed all eight rounds, head to the Gift Shop to collect your prize. £5 per trail, pick up a sheet from the Gift Shop. There will also be daily talks and donkeys to meet.

Wind in the Willows Sculpture Trail

In conjunction with the Brewhouse Theatre, Coates English Willow have created 12 willowy Wind in the Willow Sculptures to find. At Stoke Road, Stoke St Gregory. From 10am to 3pm, £4.50, tickets can be bought at the door.

Shoephoria!

A display at the Fashion Museum in Bath showcasing highlights of the museum’s world-class shoe collection. Showcasing 350 pairs of boots and shoes, it traces the evolution of shoe style over the last 300 years. From the oldest shoes in the collection to sneakers and trainers from the 2000s and from shoes belonging to Queen Mary and Queen Victoria.

This Exhibition of Matchstick Scale Model Ships at Fleet Air Arm Museum is the culmination of a lifetimes work by Phillip Warren. It will include many of the iconic aircraft carriers used by the royal Navy from all Eras. The collection of 525 ships and 1000 aircraft includes ships of the Royal Navy, United States Navy and many other nations, illustrating the development of warships from the end of World War II right up to the present day, free with normal admission. Titanic Museum Exhibition

In a small, intimate environment at the Island, Nelson Street, Bristol, visitors can explore the city’s connection to the Titanic, learn about the great ship, the people from Bristol who boarded it, life aboard and discover items from the Titanic that have never been seen in public. Also how the world was changed after the disaster. The team from the upcoming PC game Titanic: Honor & Glory, will also be providing a playable demo that enables visitors to explore the ship in first person.

Fireworks At Sea

Bristol Light Festival

Bristol will be filled with colour and vibrancy with a showcase of renowned light artists and installations at selected locations across the city. From 5 to10pm, the installations will shine a light in a few unexpected places as well as illuminating some of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks around Park Street, Queen Square, St George’s Bristol, Cabot Circus, Castle Bridge, Temple Gardens, College Green and the Harbourside. There will also be a selection of daylight and green energy installations, adding a new dimension to the event and the opportunity for those visiting and working in the city to experience some of the artworks throughout the day.

In Xanadu: Coleridge and the West Country

An exhibition at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton in partnership with the British Library to showcase the earliest manuscript of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s extraordinary poem Kubla Khan. The exhibition celebrates the manuscript’s return to the county where it was written. It will tell the story of Coleridge’s time spent living in and near the Quantock Hills, his relationship with William and Dorothy Wordsworth, and the legacy of his writing. World famous art installation, a family friendly exhibition in St Mary Magdalene Church in the centre of Taunton. Designed by Luke Jerram and measuring seven metres in diameter, it uses detailed NASA imagery to replicate the lunar surface, allowing people to explore the moon’s appearance in extraordinary detail. It is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound allowing us to observe and contemplate cultural similarities and differences around the world, and consider the latest moon science. From 6 to 7pm.

Dress for Redress: Exploring Native American Material Culture

An exhibition of the work of contemporary Anishinabe artist Celeste Pedri-Spade in The American Museum and Gardens in Bath. Featuring a series of spectacular wearable-art pieces, personal artefacts and photography, alongside historical items from the Museum’s collection, the exhibition will demonstrate the continuing legacy and profound importance of visual and material culture.

Steam Train Day

First event of the year on Yeovil Railway. Gates open at 10.30am, first ride 11am. Somerset Portraits and Voices

Somerset artist Kate Lynch documents the people practising old crafts and trades in Somerset in Somerset Rural Life Museum , Glastonbury. There are 30 traditional craftspeople featured in the exhibition of work including basketmakers, weavers, blacksmiths, farriers, potters and hedgelayers. Kate’s charcoal drawings and paintings pay tribute to their knowledge and time-honoured skills.
