INSIGHT INTO THE
TRAINING CAMP
European Youth Parliament Ukraine is a unique educational programme which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics in a parliamentary setting. As a network of independent associations, EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year.
We Encourage Youth to take responsibility for their future and to develop visions for the future of Europe. Our work for European political education for young people has been awarded the European Award, among others, for fulfilling these goals.
The EYP network organises almost 1.500 days of EYP activity every year, involving nearly 35.000 participants. Thousands of young people are active as volunteers all over Europe, making EYP a programme truly for young people, by young people. The organisation "European Youth Parliament Ukraine" (EYP Ukraine), registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in 2002, is an active participant in the process of civil society development. The organisation is not funded by any political party or government. During the existence of the organisation in Ukraine, we were supported by
private companies, international foundations, and charitable organisations. Close relations were established with the embassies of France, America, Germany, the Department of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Department of Education and Science of Ukraine, Auchan, Porshe, the foundation of Konrad Adenauer, Schwarzkopf Stiftung and others. For the last 19 years, EYP Ukraine has provided young people with a framework to deal with social issues, develop visions for the future shape of continental Europe and discuss these with one another.
Furthermore, we have more than 200 active volunteers, who are currently involved in different projects of EYP Ukraine, and more than 150 alumni, who are not eligible to take part in most EYP events due to the age frames, but still actively support our organisation. For the last 3 years, EYP Ukraine has organised 13 big scale conferences with the duration of 3+ days and more than 37 trainings. With these events, EYP Ukraine has provided a place for self-development for more than 1200 young active Ukrainians and over 430 foreigners. According to the inner survey of EYP Ukraine of 2016, more than 80% of respondents claimed to have acquired important skills for their future, through participating in our events. Additionally, EYP Ukraine has a wide media coverage with almost 6000 subscribers on Facebook, and more than 700 followers on Instagram. We use these platforms to promote both our events and the services provided by our partners. Our work for European political education for young people has been awarded the European Award, among others, for fulfilling these goals. Through their voluntary work for our non-profit organisation, young people enable their peers to understand and experience the European democratic processes through advanced nonpartisan simulations of the European Parliament. With this as our goal, we reach up to 28,000 young people across Europe every year.
Training Camp of EYP Ukraine is a platform for non-formal education that aims to develop skills of young people connected with active participation in their local societies. The main mission of our project is to encourage young participants (hereinafter - trainees) to actively participate in the development of a civil society in their countries.
We Support Personal Development of these young volunteers, and further their skills by taking up various roles within the organisation.
EYP is a training-based organisation. We strive for a high degree of professionalism in our work by young people for young people.
EYP thereby prepares these young European citizens to not only take an active role in our network but to also use these skills to the benefit of society as a whole.
By taking part in the European Youth Parliament’s activities, young participants improve their participation skills and engage in active European citizenship. EYP organises capacity building training courses focused on a diverse set of skills, such as facilitation, leadership, communication, fundraising, organising, project management, inclusion, outreach, and intercultural dialogue.
The concept of our previous events showed to be very effective last year, with more than ¾ of the Training Camp participants being selected to different roles for numerous events within and outside the EYP network. These roles include organising EYP events, head-organising numerous media campaigns in the local media, and many others.

ODESA TRAINING CAMP This year, the event will be held in the city of Odesa between 12th and 15th of August. Freshmen and highschool
students
coming
from
Continental Europe and the Middle East were defined as the main target group for the project. Training Сamp is
useful
for
both
experienced
members of our network who want to improve their skills and people who have not got any experience within the EYP network yet. The event
will
take
place
in
the
picturesque area of the Black Sea, gathering around 100 participants. They will be divided into 4 working groups (hereinafter - training tracks). Each track will represent a group of skills they are going to develop.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT As a network for young people by young people, thousands of volunteers are involved as project managers, organising hundreds of annual events in their spare time. Youngsters learn by being part of a team of dedicated volunteers and receiving hands-on education in the build-up to their event. While much of the learning about event management happens through this learning-bydoing principle, our National Committees offer many different workshops and separate training courses to prepare our volunteers for these tasks. The current training track is one of them. Key components of this training track are modules on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a project as well as human resources management and the basics of communication. Project management track will be designed to provide the trainees with the knowledge on launching a successful start-up, their own project or an effective social campaign on a local and international level. The training module on “Fundraising” was defined as the most important for the current training track. As a network of independent organisations, EYP raises funds to support its various activities from a range of different actors and partners. The trainees of the Project Management track will learn the basics and the best modern European practices of business communication, grant writing, and local fundraising.

TEAM MANAGEMENT At each EYP session, a group of young moderators work with the different committees, to prepare topical materials, run teambuilding, facilitate discussions
and
chair
the
parliamentary
assembly.
EYP
moderators,
therefore, take part in group facilitation trainings before every event and are guided by experienced trainers throughout the events. Separate training weekends on these topics are also organised, with the highlights being the annual facilitation trainings in Berlin, which bring together the moderators of our flagship International Sessions. The trainees of the team management track will be provided with the necessary leadership and team facilitation skills. The team of international trainers will consist of the Head Organisers and other team leaders of such big scale events as the International Sessions of EYP, Eurovision song contest, and the UEFA World Championship Cup. They will share the western practices of leading a team during the bigscale events, which showed to be the most effective during their events.

MEDIA& PHOTOGRAPHY Young volunteers in EYP are eager to tell others about their work and the EYP. Using social media, online campaigning tools, and press work, our volunteers are actively communicating about our aims, projects and mission. In order to develop their communication in a coherent manner and to share knowledge about new techniques and channels to communicate, trainings on PR & communication are a substantial part of the EYP training courses. Members of the media track will receive practical skills of raising social awareness through social and media campaigns. It will further help them to tackle different ecological, political and social problems within their local community using the most effective tools of raising social awareness.

NGO MANAGEMENT& DEVELOPMENT As a constantly growing network of volunteers, EYP has an increasing need for developing its capacities in NGO management and development. Each year, the International Office, as the main governing body of the EYP network, orginises a National Committee Management and Development Training in different European countries in order to share the most effective practices in the current field. Since the foundation of the European Youth Parliament in 1987, its National Committees have gone through many changes and were able to define the best practices of managing and developing an NGO. During the 5-day training modules, the team of experienced EYPers from different countries will share these practices with the trainees of the current track. The training track will focus on knowledge management in NGOs, human resources management, networking, fundraising, and legal aspects of managing an NGO within the European countries. This track will also be useful for those who want to start their own business within continental Europe and will provide them with the most effective practices of managing their start-up.

Furthermore, the project strongly promotes intercultural understanding, the development of solidarity and the promotion of tolerance among young people in Europe, by favouring intercultural dialogue and supporting the active
fight
against
discrimination,
in
particular
against
racism
and
xenophobia. Through intercultural activities the participants can develop positive experiences on cultural diversity. Throughout the event, the cultural programme highlights the diversity of cultures from all over Europe present at the event through different activities such as a Eurovillage with youth presenting their local culture and food, a Euroconcert with local and international performances by the participants, and Ukrainian Night during which the participants will have a chance to learn more about the local culture, history of the region, etc. The event programme also includes hiking and bonfire evening talks, creating the platform for peerto-peer learning between the participants in a non-formal cozy atmosphere.
