nature or take you to the launch points along the river for a kayaking or floating trip. The river runs through the entirety of the county with local gateway towns for outdoor recreation including

the Town of Cleveland, VA. Flowing in a Southwest direction from its origin near Tazewell, VA the Clinch River travels roughly 135 miles through portions of Tazewell, Russell, Wise, and Scott
Counties toward the Tennessee state line. With the majority of kayaking, fishing, tubing, and more located in Russell County, the Clinch River is a great choice for those who want to experience the great outdoors.

Redbud Festival Honaker
In early spring, the small town of Honaker erupts in a brilliant display of pinks and red as thousands of Redbud trees awaken from their winter hibernation.
On the third weekend of April is the kick-off of event season in Russell County and a great celebration of the return of spring.
Local Tip
The Cleveland Horse Ring has a horse show one Saturday a month May through October.
Castlewood

Clinch River Days St. Paul
Celebrated on Memorial Day weekend, the town of St. Paul comes together as a community to celebrate the Clinch River and Appalachian heritage. The festival includes live music, food vendors, local beer and wine tasting, art and photography, fishing, kayaking, and more adventures to experience. It is a weekend of fun in the mountains.
Cedar Fest Lebanon

A music pack-filled weekend! Hosted by the town of Lebanon Cedar Fest is held on the second weekend of June. Showcasing bluegrass and gospel heritage music on Friday with headliners such as Ben Haggard. On Saturday it switches over to highlights of country music with major headliners such as Jon Langston and Parmalee.
Heritage Festival Castlewood

As a kick-off to fall the Heritage Festival is held on the beautiful historic grounds of the Old Russell County Courthouse with tours of the grounds and courthouse over the history of Russell County, a petting zoo, local artisans & craftsmen, old-time educational activities in the schoolhouse, and so much more family fun! Bring a chair and enjoy the beautiful heritage music.
