Sharing the Gift of Tennis

Kimberly Arena Senior Editor Nearly a decade ago I made a life-changing decision and walked away from my pursuit of a career in law to work for a small startup tennis management company. I had

come to realize that I wanted to work not only in a field that I was passionate about, but also where my mission was to better the lives of others and bring people joy every day. Sharing and growing the game of tennis has truly brought joy not only to my life, but to the lives of thousands of children and adults that have discovered a love of the game through Cliff Drysdale Tennis. We live in an age obsessed with fitness, and it can often

For me, tennis has always been a family sport. As I look back on all of the ways tennis has influenced my life, I am realizing that tennis is much more than a sport; it is an EXPERIENCE.

Growing up in a tennis family, my grandparents had a tennis court in their backyard, my dad and I would always go play tennis at our neighborhood courts, and now I help coach my brother who is looking to play collegiate tennis. While playing college tennis, I was fortunate enough to have teammates that became my family away from home. Friendships forged on the tennis court tend to last a lifetime. As I began my coaching career at various Cliff Drysdale clubs, I was able to create lasting friendships with members, guests, and fellow coaches. My experience is a testament to just how much tennis can be a vital component of any relationship. The tennis experience has always been a vital part of my identity. In my new role here at Cliff Drysdale Management as National Membership Manager, I am gracious to have the opportunity to help our members and their families grow and shape their individual tennis experiences through our new and exciting membership benefits program, EXPERIENCE.

The Tennis Nerd On a long bus-ride home from a college tennis match, while my teammates discussed school and their weekend plans, I was preoccupied checking the liveJoey Hanf scores from an ATP Challenger event. One of my good friends Managing Editor looked over at me and said, “Joey you are such a ‘Tennis Nerd’.” It was joke at the time, but 4 years later I could not be more proud to embrace that title. I was a late bloomer to the sport; I didn’t start playing or watching tennis until I was 16. But once I was in, there’s been no looking back. I played for a couple years at the DIII level. But my passion for the sport has evolved off the court since then. I founded an independent media outlet, appropriately named, “The Tennis Nerds.” I covered tournaments, interviewed players, and worked for ESPN at the U.S. Open. I spent two unbelievable years with the Cornell Men’s Tennis team, and built life-long relationships during that time . I’m incredibly fortunate to have a role at Cliff Drysdale Management where I’m surrounded by my passion every single day. Tennis is massive and all-encompassing, but I’m always amazed at how intertwined the sport really is.
